We can see that in infinity war tony was wearing a similar device made up of nanotech and it was controlled by FRIDAY. When he went out of Earth he was not able to get AI assistance so he made EDITH as a carriable AI with capability of using Stark Tech. actually the logically explanation for this Tony stark was always wanted to Build a earth protection sheild captain america refused to do this and i guess as tony was close to goverment and tony may have got permit for project or was going to get but before the project was complete or it was started only on a small scale in Spiderman far from home we can see lot of drones but not enough to protect the planet the real reason he didnt use edith syestem because when in infintywar when they are leaving the eart atmosphere he call his Ai to send a iron spider suite to peter but later in entire movie he never contacted to his stark industry Ai may be because obviously his network is restricted to earth he never traveled to space before and he was confident about his nano tech so he traveled to space or else with network restriction he wouldnt have orderd a new suite from Ai
