That’s actually pretty interesting, I wasn’t aware that toucans actually ate much meat. I figured they mostly ate most of whatever vegetarian options they had available to them.

A lot of things we humans find "adorable" are predatory behavior. We are very predatory animals, and it shows if you step back and think about it. It's not coincidence that our most common pets of choice are also predatory animals, that is dogs and cats. Nor is it coincidence that we find cats hunting play toys and the like to be so cute.

It's interesting that they are predators when they are so sensitive to iron overload... blood , livers, organs all have a ton of iron.

But they consume animals that live in environments adapted to that. Things domestically have higher iron which is why they can't handle it in captivity as much.

You mentioned that you show the highlights, maybe you should also show her moody side for educational reasons as to show what people would have to look forward to if anyone is thinking about getting a toucan. I mean, I have 2 cockatiels and 2 budgies and people always say to me that they are easy to look after, no, they aren’t really, so I think it would be a great idea to show the bad side of her to avoid future toucans being re-homed, given up for adoption because it was too much for people to handle

@Rainygirl3100
@Rainygirl3100 6 жыл бұрын
Nate royer Oh yes, if a bird wants to hurt you, it WILL. Especially the ones with strong beaks or sharp beaks, like parrots or birds of prey, though any bird that feels angry or threatened can pack a punch. I've been bit by a non-socialized macaw, and it felt like my finger got caught in a slamming car door! Toucans are softbills, so they can't apply much pressure with their bill and it wouldn't hurt as much as a parrot, but I'm sure the serrated beak can easily cut the skin. Definitely something to consider for potential owners of any bird.

Makaws and cockatoos can famously break fingers. Smaller birds can break skin and make you bleed. I had to capture my sister's unhand tamed budgies. Small as they are it still hurt awfully. Imagine 100× that force. Its generally not fun to be bit by your birds.
