Transformer tappings are always done on the high voltage side of the transformer. High voltage side has low current and vice versa for low voltage side. When we use tappings due to the low current on the high voltage side, there will be less sparks and the turns are higher when compared to LV side ( low voltage,high current). Moreover the HV side is outside the transformer so tappings are easily done on the HV side.

Tap changer is provided on HV side becoz HV is the winding which controls & induces volts on LV, it's basically the supply side on which tap changer is provided.

We can do supply either on HV Side and LV side. Same transformer can work as a step up and step down transformer based on requirement.

Windings are insulated but it doesn't mean that we use water in transformer. This will result in short circuit.

Sir,i have a doubt from long time.i have 2 incomer i/c-1 and i/C-2 ,for a 3phase with neutral connection can i gave 3phase from i/c-1 and neutral from i/c-2.

@@purnasahoo791 then it will not be good for health of machine whose only phases are being used, internal circulating current will flow in that machine like it can be traffo or generator that incomer can be , it will work but it won't be technically good, it will be a jugaar, not recommended. Its same as kundaa like in kundaa they use only phase of utility traffo n Neutral from earth so creates bad impact on that traffo.
