I think the immigration, economy and crime issues were mostly manufactured misinformation. Can't really blame the Harris campaign for Trump's blatant lies and demagoguery. Back in 2019, Biden stated he was only planning to serve one term, but then he later backtracked on that. That was probably the biggest misstep. The other thing is that Dems really suck at messaging. They have a lot of good ideas, but they don't know how to sell them. I was pretty excited about Harris' plan for helping first-time home buyers, but she needed to focus on that more. A catchy slogan would have helped. "Harris Homes for Americans! Because all Americans deserve a chance to own a home." And maybe throw in a bit of anti-oligarchy messaging specifically aimed at Musk and Trump. Something like, "What do all these billionaires know about your needs? Billionaires don't work for you, they work for themselves. Musk sells more cars in China than he does here in the US. Do you think he is going to serve the American people or the Chinese Communist Party? He knows the CCP could shut down his Chinese Tesla plants at the drop of a hat. I have one word for that. Compromised."

It's true people need to do there homework on candidates, but most people are too lazy. Take tarrifs for example. The cultists didn't look up what tarrifs were and how they actually work. One very important factor that you didn’t mention was Kamala only had 107 days to really define herself as a presidential candidate to the American people. If we're gonna be honest, it was actually too long. If the election happened right after Biden stepped down and Kamala took over and announced Tim Walz as her vice president candidate, she would have had a better chance judging by polling and the general enthusiasm that was felt around that time (and Trump actually sounded scared at the time). The 107 days gave her more than enough time to define herself as a candidate and that wasn't a feature, that was the problem. Because people rejected her for being the same old establishment democrat candidate they got the last 10 elections already. EDIT: And as others have pointed out, 107 days is way longer than a normal campaign should even last to begin with, let alone 1 to 2 years. As always, America is fundamentally broken in this regard. I didn't want to mention that, but it is important as well. My country had an entire election campaign + election between the time Kamala Harris became the Democratic candidate and between the US election. And we had several months to spare. It only takes 2-3 weeks here. And no, that's not because it's small or anything stupid like that. EU elections happened as well in a similarly short amount of time and that is the second largest democratic event after the Indian general elections, larger than the US presidential elections.

What Trump was saying was Kamala was dumb...he talked about his beautiful white skin...then Trump had an old School Men-only Nazi rally in NYC....so you can't tell me why she lost unless you can point to a sustained campaign by Trump to support what you are alleging because all i heard from Trump was a recist and masoginistic attack. And if you don't believe me.....a commoner...............look at Stacey Abrams....she lost as Ga voters stepped over her to vote for other Democrats on the ticket just as they did Kamala...voters did NOT vote for her, but voted for other Democrats on our tickets....America didn't want...and wasn't ready for a black African American woman to be President...it REALLY isn't all that complicated to comprehend.

My view, for what its worth is that Democrats and the centre-left around the world approaches problems much more deliberately than the right which in large part has gone off towards appealing to feelings very much in the mould of the historical populists.. A great example would be crime...the centre left can point to the fact that crime rates are lower...but the issue is to a lot of people they don't feel so.. And that's your problem, if someone is challenged about their feelings that's a dreadfully hard sell, it is so much more appealing to believe the person who agrees with you than the one that says you are wrong. This is compounded by the fact that populists have simple solutions to complex problems, meaning that its like a double whammy, the populist is more identifiable, because they reaffirm your feelings AND they have "solutions" more often than not that don't directly "cost" you as a voter. And example of that would be children having gender affirming care in schools, yes I know there was no truth to it, but its about, solving problems people are feeling.
@christianvanhalan7982Күн бұрын
With a lot of the concideration I also think that the lying is "the one` reason. And you really can't counter that. Trump promises everything people want to hear. If Harris camp says he's a liar, nobody cares. If Harris had started lying the same way, Trump camp and the media would have called her out and her supporters would have held it against her.

A large portion of the American public are politically apathetic and refuse to do the work to get objectively informed. They are easily swayed by broad and vague slogans, especially empty Republican narratives often based on lies, and this lack of being informed or abundance of being misinformed, put them in the position to make shortsighted and often counterintuitive political choices with their vote. This is so aggravating to those of us do take our civic responsibilities seriously which further drives the divide along educational lines. If it wasn’t unconstitutional, I would suggest educating and mandating Americans to pass basic exams on civics, economics, foreign policy and media literacy before they are permitted to vote, just as newly naturalized citizens must do. I know that won’t pass constitutional muster but measures like that would make the election of a convicted felon and pathologically-lying conman like Trump a near impossibility. At the very least, it would diminish the type of willful ignorance infesting our politics and causing the rise of cultish populism.

Your argument is invalid. Most people have more on their minds than politics. I work 100 hours every 2 weeks but I'm into politics because of my mindset and have no kids or other obligations that scopes up my schedule. The problem is that most people don't have time for that and politics is boring/bullshit most of the time. Trump flipped it on its head and made it interesting, good or bad. How about broaden your horizon to understand the wide world instead of being stuck up.

As someone who has studied American politics extensively, both recent and historically, I agree with you that the American public should put more effort into understanding the subject and being informed when they vote. However, I disagree that it would make a difference in the outcome. You would have just as many "informed" voters who would select a candidate like Trump when they are "educated" on what the alternative looks like. I'm a perfect example of an educated voter that researches policies and their effects, and picks a candidate like Trump regardless of the "broad and vague slogans". There is objective evidence in states like CA and NY that policies pushed by a candidate like Harris are not working. I do wish that there were better candidates on both sides to choose from, but given the binary choice of Trump vs. Harris, this educated voter chose anything but Harris. So in summary, yes we do need more education in this country, but no that education does not imply a different result.

I kind of knew everyone was going to sit their butts on the couch. The moment Kamala started her campaign, my first complaint was how the media was framing her as an extreme victory candidate, discussing crowd size, fancy ads, and celebrity endorsements. All of that created a sense among people that "I don't need to turn out because I feel like she's going to win anyway." I don't know if it was David's channel, but there were many videos proclaiming, "Kamala will surely beat Trump." All of that bit you on the backs, and I kind of felt like that was going to happen. And I know people stayed at home because, you want to know why? The old man (Biden) received 10 million more votes than the so-called exciting younger candidate. Trump got nearly the same amount of votes (which was expected... Trump didn't win new voters and his so-called won by a mandate is B.S.)
@Iskander448Күн бұрын
All due respect, she warned people to get out and vote. And she kept stating that nothing was guaranteed. If people didn't turn out because they felt it was in the bag, then they deserve the results of their foolishness. It is time voters took responsibility for their actions. In the same way we now blame the German people of the 1930s and not just the Nazi Party, people need to own up to their part in this mess.

Kamala got 6 million fewer votes, not 10 million. The votes weren’t done being counted on election night. Millions of votes were yet to be counted, especially from the west coast which skews Democratic, and Kamala ended up getting 75 million votes while Trump got 77 million, 3 million more than he got in 2020. The popular vote margin was smaller than originally thought as Trump only had a 1.5% margin of victory which is the 8th smallest in the history of US presidential elections.
@MotorizedBicycleRaceКүн бұрын
Biden had 81 million 2020 Harris had 75 million 2024 so it's about 6 million difference not 10 million. Trump got 77.3 million and only 1.47% more than Harris.

I feel a big part of it was this: Americans are so used to immediate gratification. The PACT Act, CHIPS Act, Infrastructure Act, and ALL of the rest were great, but, in President Biden's own words, "These things take time." Americans want to see actions that take effect right away. Reduce grocery prices by threatening litigation against the major producers and suppliers. Close the borders - even if just for a little while - because appearance is key. Alter laws through Presidential Orders to address crime in the present (even though Congress and the Courts may reverse these changes). Do it now and let the cards fall where they may, then blame Republicans for the failures.

Then the company catches him and you realise what tremendous damage he has done to the company where he was employed. He gets the sack. The company puts an advert in the paper and needs a new guy in the warehouse. They give the job to the guy they just got rid of.
