Why Turrican2 is meant to be played on the C64

This video shows all those things, which I miss everytime when I play another version of Turrican II (like the Amiga port). The musics can be found at the Turrican Soundbase on my page ( www.turricanzone.de.vu ), at turrican.nemmelheim.de or at www.turricanforever.de

Note: I do like the Amiga version of Turrican2 very much. Especially the musics by Chris Huelsbeck. However, THIS is the original version, and it has the better gameplay in my opinion. It's meant to be played on the C64... ;)

You should re-upload this video, this time recorded from a real C64 in 50 fps. In the bad old KZbin quality it's not possible to see how smooth the scrolling on the shooter levels is.

Equally you could say the C64 version lacked some of the amiga's nice details, such as the copper coloured backdrops, the excellent music throughout, the smooth animation of the main character, the 50 frames a second scrolling, the faster loading, more colourful graphics, better sfx. They were both great versions in their own ways...

The C64 misses the awesome soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck, other than that, it is just as awesome as on the Amiga (half the graphic power but double the charm :) )

@Chimmyt2 Thehe :D The Amiga version HAS some huge advantages though, such as great ingame music by Chris Hülsbeck in every level, and a very smooth scrolling. :)

I've never played any of the C64 Turrican games but this looks stunning for a C64.

Turricam 2 is my 2nd favourite game of all time, only beaten by Unreal on the PC. The music on the Amiga for Turrican was just truly brilliant, made the game. So mnay game developers dont realise its the music that immerses you int the game. This is the 1st time I ever seen Turrican on a C64. Inferior to the Amiga version. But hats off to the C64 for being able to play Turrican. For such an old machine, shows just how great the C64 was.

The Universal Soldier port honestly has some good extra secrets too, except some of them are super hard to get

I find it totally fascinating how different ports of the same game had different level layouts... nowadays it's just carbon copying. I like the old method. It gives a lot more variety.

Anyone played "Universal Soldier" on the Megadrive? Basically Turrican 2 with all the cool bits taken out! (even more so than the Amiga)

Thanks! Yes, KZbin ate the stereo.... but you can add &fmt=18 to the video-URL, to have better image quality, and stereo sound even after minute 1:57 . :)

Genius video. Love the text and play so much. You got the timing just perfect. Only thing I found was the sound on the right ear cuts out at 1min57secs. Please fix

Exactly! Turrican2 on the C64 has more lives to find, some of them in places, that don't exist on the Amiga (Like those I showed in the video). As there are more lives, it's only fair, to have a harder game play as well. So, you don't feel rewarded only, it was even useful. If you don't play so good, it's your only way to beat the game! And as you said, it's so much fun, to find those hidden things. :)

@Bastiest Yes, it is. :D Manfred Trenz is the developer of the C64 R-Type port, so he embedded this small gag before the flight levels in TurricanII. It's missing on the Amiga, as well, d'uh... :D

I'd say that what we need is a fan remake, with the C64's additional gameplay goodies and the amiga version's graphics and music (of course, you'd be able to switch between the c64 music and the amiga music on stages 3.x and 5.2.)

The version on our original disc is the very same version, which is available as datasette rom. The disc versions I found in the web however were all the different one. That's why I think it's likely, both versions were sold on discs. Now you say, many disc versions in the net were copied from datasette. So propably, both versions were sold on datasette as well. I will check my datasette version now, if it tells "turn-the-DISC" before level 3-1 as well. My discrom does (using the nice re bar)!

mmm C64 is best gameplay,Amiga optimize graphic and effect for 16 bit experience but lose a little bit of gameplay.

Afaik, you can jump in there as well, but I'll test it again. But you are right, the music is one of the best reasons for the Amiga version.
