@@jonnstewart2023 i have never liked away goals rules nor extra time. For me if neither can win after 90+ minutes then just take it to penalties and get it overwith. TBH, I like the away goals rule in terms of deciding a tie, in an age where there's more and more games players have to play, we don't want every tie that ends in a draw to go to extra time, so away goals is a good differential, but I certainly agree that it's unfair on the home team in the second leg if a game does go to extra time that the away team has an extra half an hour to score an away goal. For me, it should just be scrapped in extra time but keep it across 90 minutes. Yes, the gap has closed between the home and away teams, but there was still a reasonable gap, so you can't say there isn't a home team advantage just because it's smaller than it used to be. And I do agree that sometimes it makes the home team more defensive, but that hasn't detracted from some magnificent ties over the years, like the ones mentioned in the video. Also, it means teams aren't playing for a draw if the scoreline is already higher than the first leg, which can make the game more exciting because there's always a team that needs a goal to not get knocked out, whereas without away goals, teams can just play for extra time and penalties if they don't think they stand much chance at winning the tie in 90 minutes anymore

Its a good thing. Teams just advancing cause of that rules doesnt make sense since goal is a goal. Football is about scoring more and advancing not advancing even thoug the score is 3:3. This takes away the pressure of not conceding so teams can just go for the win without caring about conceded goals. Also sometimes you have a bad day and conceding goals at home put you on disadvantage right away.

Not gonna lie. I think this is better. I mean you can't end the game in a deuce score now can you? The only way to settle a tie game is either score more goals or settle it in a penalty. I mean you score the same amount of goals but you lost due to away goal format? I've always hated the rule.

When the rule comes into effect, it means the aggregate score is a tie. Which means that on the balance of play, no side played well enough to get the victory. However, one side advances because their goals count double. In most cases, the "better team" doesn't win.

It might seem more fair but in terms of excitement, this is a very bad idea. Away goals created basically the only time in soccer where a goal was the difference between a win and a loss and not just a win and a tie. It’s the same reason basketball baskets are worth 2 instead of just 1. Even before the three point rule, baskets counted for 2 and free throws 1. This created a situation where a team could be down by 1 point with time running out but had the opportunity to win with a 2 point basket. Ask any basketball fan. It’s always way more exciting when someone scores a 2 point buzzer beater with their team down by 1. As opposed to scoring one down by 2 or tied. In the first instance, it’s thedifference between a win and a loss. In the second, the difference between a win and a tie. (Of course I’m basketball there are no ties. They would go to overtime. But the point still stands) It’s similar in American football where there are different point totals for different types of scoring opportunities. In soccer, it’s just one type of scoring opportunity for 1 point. Plus there are ties and a lot of them in soccer. Which makes the situation more boring. Here was the one time a team could be losing, score a late goal, and go from winners to losers with that one score. I for one am sad that is being taken away...
@De3dSh0t
@De3dSh0t 3 жыл бұрын
It won't be less exciting because instead teams will play in extra time and penalties, also adding more football game time. You wouldn't say the world cup or euro games are more boring because of this (obviously the play only one match there but the same concept would apply, it just would happen in the second leg of every bout). If anything it would actually mean that teams would have to win the damn game instead of scoring one lucky away goal and just sitting at the back for 90 minutes. Like imagine Barca play United and the first game they draw 0-0 at Spain and then in the second leg Barca get a lucky goal or a fortunate call at the start of the game and go 1-0 up. What's gonna happen next? Park the bus for 90 minutes, and even if United score it wont matter and they'll lose. But why does Barca deserved to go through on 1-1 in this instance? Because they got an away goal? What about United keeping a clean sheet in Spain, is that not an achievement, is that not in many ways harder to do? That was just a hypothetical but you see how much this rule also helps the game, it creates more interesting games instead of teams just sitting at the back (which happend a lot) and forces them to attack, gives you more play time in extra time and pens (which also adds intensity) and also is fair, because it means you actually have to beat the other team instead of just tying your way to the next round.
@hc3203
@hc3203 3 жыл бұрын
@@De3dSh0t I disagree. Scrapping the away goal will give the team that play in the second home game the advantage if it goes to overtime. There’s no point in playing two games if there’s no away rule. Might as well select a neutral stadium and play 1 match like the world cup. The away goal rule has made some great matches and it’s benefits outweighs all negatives. I’ve seen the Caraboa cup system and it sucks. Boring af matches and if ties it goes to PK, another advantage to home team. Whereas in the away goal system, the advantage in extra times will balance out if it goes to pk shootout.
@De3dSh0t
@De3dSh0t 3 жыл бұрын
@@hc3203 Well there is a a point for playing two games because it gives the fans an opportunity to support each team, and playing one game in a neutral venue each time is just too much work to find the right stadiums each week for each matchup. I do agree the second team would have the advantage if it goes to extra time and pk, but there ways to balance it. For example let's say United and Chelsea match up in the round of 16, you can say that if Chelsea got more points than United in the group stage then they play the second game at home. Or if it's deeper knockout rounds then whoever scored more goals in the previous round will get the second game at home. This might motivate teams to try and outscore their opponents in each tie to better their chances in the next round, and not settle for small wins. It's just an idea I'm throwing in the air obviously you can put more thought into it and come up with something better. I just despise this rule because it allows teams to play such negative football and advance to the next round without actually beating their opponents.

Wow, three references to my own beloved home town club Dunfermline Athletic. There was a shot of our plastic pitch when the UEFA trial started. Sir Alex played for us, in Europe in the 60s. And, most importantly, our Cup Winners Cup tie against Benfica that ended 6-6. We were barely a full time club at the time but we had a GREAT team. We lost the third game three days later in a neat empty stadium halfway across Europe 3 days later. We were the straw that broke the camel's back. Was also the record European comeback after losing in Portugal 4-0 in the first leg. The rule came in right after our tie.

So, there is still a home advantage AND most of the stats pulled up are the way that they are because "Away Goals" is currently in the system. The League stats briefly mentioned will also have changed due to the introduction of 3 points for a win. This was brought in to stop away teams being content to defend for a point. So the stats are skewed by the influencing factors that they will be removing (from the cup competitions). The stat changes do more to prove that "Away Goals" works than it does to suggest removing the rule. Also, the video says that the home team league results were reduced but does not say what they were reduced to. We all know that there is still home advantage. All this is only half the story. The other problem that the away goals rule solves gets the briefest of mentions at the end of the video, which is that this will result in loads more penalty shoot outs. But that is after the home team have had another 30 minutes of extra home advantage time.

Away goals gave us Liverpool v Barca, Barca v Roma, Porto v Juve, Chelsea v Barca... just this decade it gave us so much football drama...scrapping it would make teams play defensively and taking possession, running down the clock, then waiting for shoot outs...most of the managers voted for the scrapping of away goals, are those who lost in it.

Away goal should be kept , coz 1 , it's more exciting 2 the away team has to travel , you can Liverpool vs CSKA Moscow , why shouldn't Liverpool or CSKA have advantage if they go away and score after travelling such a long distance. 3 , the amount of games players are playing it's cruel to have them play extra half hour , after the match is 1-1 .Half hour might not seem much but playing 90 minute and then 120 and then again 90 min on the weekend , takes tool on the body , that's around 210 min + about 10 minute of added time , that's about 220 minute , almost 4 hours , about 4 km extra running and risk of injury is going to increase

One of the key reasons for more away wins has been missed. That is that the gap between the top and bottom have increased, winning that the top teams beat the bottom and medium teams, and explains the high points totals in the Premier League, the monopolies in some leagues, and the winners of the Champions League being either Real, Barca, or a Premier League team.

Each player picks his weapon, then the rack goes back down, "Ride Of The Valkyries" is played over the stadium PA system, and both teams go to battle. Last man standing takes the trophy for his team. Let's make it happen.

the stats show that away goals worked like intended. Yes hometeams score less goals, but away teams score more, and that's why the rule was implemented. A strong hometeam will just sit back away and park the bus and then wait for the homegame, and lets face it, nearly all teams are better at home so nearly all awayteams will not take any riscs at all in the first game. I understand the argument about extratime and awaygoals counting more, but then again the hometeam have the crowds at their back so they have that advantage. Maybe just do away with extratime and go direct to penalties. (and do not let goals in a penaly shootout count extra) The final is on neutral ground so you could still have extratime in the final.

My idea instead the away goals rule: NO MORE EXTRA TIME. The team that scored last wins when it's a draw. If it's a 0-0 draw, penalty shootout. The players are exhausted, they get injured more easily when they play longer than 90 minutes, we don't need that.

Not to be rude but that is a shite rule lol imagine a team plays well until the 90 minute then gets scored on off a last minute corner and all of a sudden lose. It isn't your pitch( not to mention what home teams do to have advantage by messing with the pitch) , fans are tormenting with chants, ball boys are against you, referees get pressured by fans cheering, travel time may exhaust the team, weather can have an impact and etc. like man there are many factors that legitimized away goal rule.
