Why use Gray code for an optical shaft encoder?

Great explanation just one correction, you have mention Decimal, Binary and Gray. And in your case you have 01234567 which is not decimal, it is octal (8 elements). Decimal is 0123456789 (10 elements). You have also Hexadecimal 0123456789ABCDEF (16 elements)
