Why does it take so long to get into UX? A decade to get to a senior UX role? the gatekeepers? and many other questions coming from the growing and maturing user researchers and designers in UX. All of them highlight one big pain point - the time required to master the essential expertise. In this video, I'll deconstruct some of the key factors and how to approach this best so you don't lose sanity in pursuit of a career and growth in UX.

Hi, really great content! I have been watching your videos for a couple of months. Started to apply what I learned to real-world practices. So far, I can start seeing that I feel more confident in managing dynamics between stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and co-workers. For future episodes, could you please talk more about UX leadership? and how to advance your UX career? Like, further career development after senior UXer? Thanks very much!

Part 2 for the books video! Another video suggestion, maybe, could be a introduction to what to study to specialize in each UX Design area (like UX Research, UX Strategy, UX Writing etc.) Nice video, thanks!

Truly grateful that I stumbled upon your channel at the very beginning of my UX career. The amount of information and knowledge that you share with us is unspeakable. Your videos and especially your book "Get Into UX" are teaching me a lot. I am re-reading it currently and paying attention to other interesting thoughts that I haven't noticed when reading it for the 1st time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your work!

Hey! What do you think about business analysts in the UX design process? Can both roles be done by a single person? Is it a good niche or a bad idea to do both? Thanks!

let's face it, i'm a product designer myself. it seems so hard to become an expert because there's a lot of hocus pocus around it. the UX topic is inflated and thus it seems overly complicated. is it something bad? maybe... on the other hand, it keeps salaries high and sells books. in the UX field, rationality, people skills and an affinity for technology will get you surprisingly far. let the people and clients believe it is tough. it pays off, doesn't it?

You know what pays off, calling everyone UX/UI and offer nonsense bootcamps, so everybody thinks they are doing UX while they are not because UX sounds so cool and hip. And then when you look for UX jobs they ask you for your figma and visual design skills while UX is completly something else, and because of these all you have a field that gets destroyed day by day by people not interested in UX at all, who just want that title. If its all about a title, I'm now a doctor, you can ask me about my vodoo chicken healing - i dont need that hocus pocus medicine stuff, thats just for high salaries, nobody need skills for being a doctor lol

@@xxxazzo Yep (at least here in Central Europe) 75% UX job offers are ridiculous. I just wonder where the confusion comes from. Employers confuse the job titles such a lot. The job titles often do not even fit the job description. UX- or UI-Designer, Product Designer, UX Consultant, UX Architect mixed together. And the cherry on the cake is always if they write that the applicant should additionally have programming language skills like JavaScript :D

As someone getting into UX/UI from web dev, it all just seems so overly complex and disorganized. Like the chart he shows at 2:45, are you seriously telling me UX designers are considering all of these viewpoints and overlaps when designing interfaces? Especially with design sprints being so popular? I can't help but feel a bit lost in all of this, and I also can't help but feel UX people are a bit full of it.
