To be honest, I think it's because they are all relatively more sober now and of course aging. The recklessness that they used to have is gone and for a good reason. Bam, Dunn and even Novak missing from this movie really made the difference for me with this film. Bam and Knoxville were the kings of behind the scenes pranks that kept everyone on set on edge and it wasn't like that in this movie.

I agree but I have to point out that Poopies agreed to getting paid less because since he's a new member who didn't do anything like jackass before, they wanted to just feel him out in this movie first before he got paid big bucks. Top Reasons Jackass Forever sucked: 1. No Bam / CKY crew members 2. The big stars Steve-0, Knoxville, Bam (Not in the Movie) had very weak stunts and didn't carry the movie like past films. Ehren McGhehey carried the film and he isn't the huge standout star of the crew. 3. Seemed way less like a group of friends and more like coworkers doing a job. 4. Missing Bam and CKY took away that sort of street edge energy to the film.

Jackass was revolutionary in the late 90’s early 2000’s when MTV, movies and magazine were the only mass audience platforms. With KZbin, FB, Tik Tok, even text messages, etc anyone can make and share jackass stuff. Jackass needs to be innovative. A younger cast doing jackass stuff is not innovation it’s rebranding.

I'm 37 and grew up on cky first. It was super popular in S.B.C California at the time and always thought when it became "jackass" it dropped in quality and had less skating. I got over it and loved it eventually and will most likely do so for the next chapter. Not like I ever re-watched any cky/jackass ever alone it was always to shock the next person... "Oh you haven't seen cky???" And then I would see it again. It's not like boondock saints, good fellas or pulp fiction where I watch it alone and admire it as art so it's still serving it's purpose for me.

It's a huge immersion break and you see the strings and realize they are just human beings suffering.
@skoolie_life32612 жыл бұрын
The intro with the big dick was way to drawn out, and I could’ve done without all the behind the scenes stuff relating to that bit. I agree with you regarding the new cast members not having established friendships. They were all there to do a job, that may have been why it felt more like a money grab this time. The age of the OG cast did bother me some. Your analogy about watching a friend fall vs watching a parent fall was spot on. I didn’t find the stunts themselves as good…some were, but some were lame. Them all being sober may have played a role too…getting messed up before doing these stunts may have added something to it that I can’t put my finger on. I don’t advocate for alcohol/drug use, I’m just making an observation. Finally, it just wasn’t the same without Bam (and Dunn, but that’s impossible to fix). Bam was a major player from the beginning and majorly contributed to Jackass’s success. Not just in the content contribution, but in his presence. There’s something special about Bam, that’s why he’s been so successful. They needed him, and I feel like a big piece was missing without him. All that being said, I remain a fan. I grew up watching Jackass and all the other stuff they did. I supported the movie by buying a ticket, but it wasn’t their best work.

@TheAzNheadbanger2 жыл бұрын
The combination of thinking they were too old with the lack of the CKY Crew was what did it in for me. I spent most of the film trying to imagine what it would be like if Dunn or Bam was there. Dico, Dunn, and Bam did so much for the series and none of them being there for this iteration of Jackass made it feel incomplete for me. If they're going to go with this new squad they need to find a new group of people similar to the CKY Crew, but I have no idea where they'd start.

Unfortunately the new cast although all very talented in their own right were mostly picked to fill inclusion quota's which always dilutes the content of preexisting chemistry, that's just the way of the modern world I guess and part of the reason why shows like Jackass don't exist anymore. Do you think a show with 8 white men would get commissioned these days
@BrickKildaguy2 жыл бұрын
I don't think this "inclusivity" argument holds any water. Dickhouse already made Loiter Squad (Jasper) and Knoxville was in a movie with Eric Manaka. Most of the new cast was already in the Jackass world before joining. I'd go as far as saying that maybe they wanted to get a woman involved. But I don't think they went out of their way to be inclusive, just because it's NOT all white men.
@WikkidPiggy6662 жыл бұрын
I liked the movie, it served up all the laughs and shock that I’ve come to expect from these guys. I’m not remotely bothered by hearing about their injuries; they’ve always had crazy injury stories from filming Jackass bits so that’s nothing new and for me kind of adds to the daredevilness of these stunts.. it tells you how hardcore they are. They are much older now, yes, but they’re hardly one-foot-in-the-grave and seeing the band back together again always puts a smile on my face no matter how much time passes. Even though I thought the movie was good, I still felt kind of empty watching it though. The main reason for this was the omission of Bam. As the last member of the CKY crew in Jackass, him being gone sort of made me feel the absence even more of not only him but Dunn, Raab, Dico, Rake, Novak, Phil, April.. it just didn’t feel the same, it felt like a big chunk of the Jackass family was missing. And no hate to the new cast members, I think they did well, but they didn’t fill that void for me. There was something really uncomfortable about the way Bam’s firing was handled as well which has soured his relationship with the other guys behind the scenes, and although I understand his addiction is the crux of the problem - I also feel like the movie kind of pretended like Bam never existed and that was sad. They paid a small tribute to Ryan at the end but I wish they could have at least acknowledged that one of their living cast members was missing. Or even given him the opportunity to complete the movie; it’s not as if they all weren’t loaded themselves during previous shoots. I kind of feel like having the chance to work with the guys again in a sober environment might’ve actually been a positive thing for him but we’ll never know now, and likely he won’t have another opportunity as I doubt they’ll do another movie after this. Just a sad state of affairs.

My only complaint was that they had to make up for the fact that they're all older now and can't do many big stunts by doing a lot of genital mutilation stuff. It was fine in previous movies because it seemed more natural as to where it was even admitted that there was so much penis stuff in this one because they're old now. I completely agree with everything you stated, very well written video! im glad someone feels the same way that i did in the theather. hearing about the drama behind the scenes made this film pretty uncomftorable to watch… like why was there a heated argument between stevo and knox about money? its pretty depressing. and i also cringed watching these aging legends take slams. and the new cast members were not familiar enough to make the film feel at home. even watching the first few jackass films without any prior knowledge of the franchise, it works because of the pre-existing friendships, wheras if you were to watch forever, its pretty obvious who the newcomers are. my favorite part of the film was the credits because we get to see old footage and cameos from old members. my favorite jackass is 2 and 1 because of the feel of a bunch of friends with video cameras.. forever feels more scripted and controled and artificial in comparison. anyways im just pretty much repeating everything you said. thanks for making this video, because its the best worded way someone voiced this unpopular opinion that i have seen

I thought it was great. Bam and Ryan were most definitely missed, but it was still really funny and the new guys got a few good scenes. It was Jackass.

I definitely agree. Yes, the stunts have always been hilarious, but I've always cared more about the people doing them than the stunts themselves. I'm just simply not invested in these new people (yet) and there was a massive black hole not having CKY in it (although I know some of that was out of their control). Loomis wasn't even in it, was he? The Dudesons were supposedly in it but I never noticed them. I also think the lockdowns played a part in it too. All in all it felt incomplete and all it mainly did for me was yearn for the old days. I also agree that I enjoyed 4.5 more. I laughed harder at that then I did the main movie.

Loomis is seen very briefly in one of the outdoor scenes I believe. They never mentioned him though.

It wasn’t hard to watch at all. Shit was fuckin hilarious! And I think a big part of it is that they were passing the torch.

It was worse than the others cause the new cast and waaay too much dick. They all still got it. Just made bad decisions with the direction of the film.

I think you yourself just grew up and matured yourself bro. Things aren’t as funny as they used to be to some people. That’s just apart of life.

It sucked due to the new cast having no talent at all. They dont deserve to be in any movie.

IMO we are much older than when it first came out, so is the cast and forever is different in many ways; felt too corporate the originals seemed more of a middle finger to corporate, felt like a money grab especially learning about paying Poopies only $35k, some original greats are either dead or weren't in forever which didn't help, the thing with JA Forever IMO the stunts get old, the new cast got the short stick in too many ways. Where Forever was a decent watch, it came very short from the nostalgia of the original show, 1-3 movies , Viva la bam, Wildboyz. Honestly if they want the brand to live on they can do a couple different approaches. 1. The original cast should retire from crazy stunts all together, they need to stop bowing down to corporate and be a rebellious show again, they need a brand new cast for a show, where the original cast makes cameos or have a jackass reality show where the original cast makes new men and women do extreme challenges for a chance to win money

It was a great movie. I think your wrong for trying to make it not. Sure some parts are cringe but thats how every jackass is. You go into it knowing that. But I'm 28 now and I haven't laughed that hard in atleast 2 years. 10/10 would watch again. And I think the fact that there willing to put themselves through that. At their age. Like hoe could you not love em. Yes they are getting older and you can tell compared to the old jackass's but even like Steve o said in the movie. It's been 10 years. 10 years is a lot when you consider they were in there 20s and 30s on the last 2. I think we need to appreciate what they give us because if loosing celebrities over the last year wasn't enough. There gonna be gone one day and there won't be any more jackasses to watch. So be thankful for what you get.
