For the ages/personalities they can really change depending on what the song needs. The way I see it the “canon” ages and personalities are for Crypton future media for advertisements and concerts. However for songs such as “The letter she kept waiting for” by MothyP (where Rin dies of old age) rins age obviously had to change as she had grown up. It’s sort of the same thing with things like Brazilian Miku where even her race can be changed and it’s still fine because nothings really set in stone because they’re all just a bunch of .wav files

To be honest, my theory of why both Rabbit Hole and Mesmerizer got so famous was because of the art style. Notice how videos drawn in ChannelCastStation’s art style always seem to blow up? Satine is one of the main characters in Moulin Rouge, and is a club actress. When it comes to the love triangle between Christian (our BOHO protag), her, and Duke (our toxic antag), her role is the woman in the middle of it all, as the two boys fight for her love. It's a cultural thing too-these Playboy clubs didn't exist in Japan, but the outfits were copied, resulting in them receiving the generic "bunny suit" moniker over there, which got backported when anime fans found such instances. Funny, because I believe Playboy does still hold a copyright or trademark of some kind on the outfit; they just don't prosecute fictional instances because they don't do hand-drawn or animated stuff.

The "canon" age is just for advertising the product (software), and every artist/producer can assign whatever age they want to Miku and the other Vocaloids. For me my issue was the animation and how ungodly popular it was becoming, i was even seeing kids make it into a trend on GACHA LIFE. I dont have and issue with the songs or lyrics, and ive actually listened to a lot of other dark vocaloid songs when i was young (yes im an old vocaloid fan that doesnt like rabbit hole, what a suprise) its kinda sad to see these kids get mocked for disliking this song, or being called "newgens", whatever that means. i think with the age thing it’s a bit different due to it being vocaloid. i think the ages are there so there’s more explanation on what the voice sounds like before u buy it probably. with the characters, they’re just mascots for the voices and since there’s no canon, it doesn’t matter as much. i think that it would be weird though if you did view one of the character mascots as a child for example and used said character for freaky stuff. but with their voices i don’t think it matters as much because in the end they’re just instruments
