He was one of my favorites starting 2007, especially since I was a fan of BMW Sauber. I remembered saw his crash on TV, I almost woke up the entire house because I was on the verge of shouting after that. He was one of the podium regulars and one of the refresher around the time when Ferrari and McLaren mostly battled for the win. I have to agree for his 2008 season. So inspiring to see him win, especially in the place where he could almost ended his F1 career there. Though I don't have too much of hype since after watching how Felipe Massa never returns to competitive form post-accident. 2010 was Kubica's breakthrough season. He was impressive in 2006, when he immediately scored points at the Hungary Grand Prix, only to be disqualified for driving an underweight car. Two races later he scored a surprise podium. However, by his own admission, his 2007 season was a little underwhelming. He only managed to outperform an extremely solid but not very fast Heidfeld in 2008. To his frustration, BMW decided to not develop the car after his win in Canada, and focus on the 2009 car, but somehow they managed to build an extremely bad car and he only managed one podium at the end of the season. Overall, he and Heidfeld were very evenly matched in their BMW years. Then 2010 came and he was faster than ever, qualifying in the top 10 in every but one race, with the absolute highlight that second place in qualifying in Monaco, with teammate Petrov just in 14th (one year later Heidfeld was only 16th, while Petrov was 11th). He scored points in almost every race (he had 3 technical failures and an 11th place in Bahrain where Sutil spun him around in the first lap) and he arguably had a better season than each of the championship contenders. Sadly, his career was then cut short, or so it seemed.

Despite what Aldas claimed at the beginning of this video, I can't see any evidence that Kubica was ever a great driver. @davidkyle50175 жыл бұрын
@@David-ud9ju I should ask whether you actually watched him race and were of an age during his early time in F1 to really understand what he was doing or are you simply making this point based on looking at his stats? I will agree that he was not of the same level as Hamilton, Vettel or Alonso, but he was not far off. It was clear that he had the "right stuff" as a driver. He did more with less than first class equipment than most would be able to do. If you couldn't see that from his races then either you didn't know enough to understand how good he was or you have some other agenda. To be fair to your point, I guess it depends on what you mean by "great driver". In my book, he was becoming a great driver who was finally going to get the equipment to let him shine. Yes he did. Way before he had to perform actually. Heidfeld was a great driver, but people expected him to be like Hamilton became a couple of years later. Basically it should've been Heidfeld and Hamilton at McLaren if everything panned out the way McLaren wanted it to. Heidfeld didn't turn out to be the force they hoped he'd be. Raikkonen was perceived as the bigger talent and McLaren opted for him instead of their own boy Heidfeld. And then the same happened when Kubica was in the same car as him.

When asked if Heidfeld was a disappointment, he bluntly answered "Well, to respond clearly, yes, he's a disappointment. We were expecting him to be a leader and he wasn't." Those were unfair words, as he's much better than Bruno Senna obviously, but apparently Heidfeld hadn't been as good as Kubica.

Robert just keeps doing unbelieveable things all his life... He already came back to racing with screws in his arm, weeks after a horrible accident, that he was a passenger in... That happened during his teenage life - when he was supposed to debut in Formula 3 Euroseries. He ended up with a horrible hand injury, doctors fucked up the surgery and he couldnt move it at all. Different clinic operated the arm again, put in 18 screws [he couldnt move the hand in elbow] and few weeks later Kubica won his debut F3 race in this very bad condition. I love the fact, that during his debut in WRC - in the legendary Monte Carlo rally, during his early rehab after the Ronde di Andorra, he won the first two special stages and was leading the Monte Rally in a private Fiesta against guys like Ogier in a VW... He is a legend - dont underestimate the man, he's not coming back for nothing. P.S. BMW gave up on the title chase for political reasons, as soon as Robert won that GP. On another note, even though his injury and absence could hold him back a lot, there are still MANY reasons I'm still optimistic he can still bring on the pace: (1 his rally performance. He won the WRC-2 and OBLITERATED Rossi in the 2014 Monza Rally Show. He also mentions that he indeed found ways to use his rally experience to improve his in-track performance, mainly his tyre management and finding grip. (2 Raikkonen. Yes, they are completely different drivers, but I still have hopes that Kubica can maintain his speedy performance since he's about as skilled as Raikkonen and, more importantly, performed well in other motorsports, namely rally, during their absence from F1. Another sidenote, in the "Beyond the Grid" podcast, Kubica mentioned that during his Renault test, he drove the car with Alonso's setup and it felt very natural, almost akin to his own setup. How interesting that he and Alonso not only (almost) drove together, but with very similar drivestyles.

If you’re a fan of Robert Kubica (and you will be after watching this video) you’ll definitely want to see him lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a BMW M4 with Mischa Charoudin filming from the passenger seat. He does not know the track very well, so it is even more amazing to see his absolute command of the vehicle (new to him) and his mastery of driving technique. I had never heard of the guy, so I was wondering why Mischa was showing him such deep respect. I found out in a big hurry. Really, the man is other-worldly talented, being at the razor’s edge of control but at the same time completely relaxed. If you think you could race F1 watch this and be humbled. BTW, the staff at the track did not recognize him, so he was told he could not go out alone: he needed an “instructor”! 🤣🤣🤣 A humble Kubica just said , “even if I can drive pretty well?,” and went off to get Mischa, who got a good laugh out of the story: kzbin.info/www/bejne/faimenigmd-pec0

Thanks for your video. I've followed Robert's daily progress on twitter from the day of his accident to present day. I've been up and down with every positive and negative story through the years. There were negative events such as his fall on the ice and re-injuring his leg to getting in a rally car for testing. Every morning I'd check twitter for any updates. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that one day Robert (my favorite driver} would be back on the grid with my favorite team (williams). I'm looking forward to this season like I have with no other. Forza Robert!

I couldn’t agree with you more, I remember watching all of that 2010 season. It was easy to see how much performance Robert could squeeze out of that Renault. I also remember watching the testing, qualifying and races of that season and every time that yellow Renault crashed or went off track, it was the Russian guy, Petrov I think.

Wait, he had two horrible accidents?? I only knew about the one in F1 and I thought that when people talked about he's horrifying crash, they referred to that one! Omg those are two very horrifying crashes! He must be very strong and passionate about racing to return to driving after those close to death experiences. I didn't know much about him (I'm a younger viewer) but now I can surely say that I surely admire his precision

Nice video dude. I recently stubbled upon your channel and subscribed. Thanks for the great content. I agree that Robert was a potential Champion. He had talent and he was fast. Seriously fast. I am a Mclaren supporter and Hamilton was my driver. Kubica was always a concern for me for my team. He was a very worthy F1 driver in his first F1 Career. I am hoping so much for a positive performance from him. He is an astonishing person to have achieved what he has to be an F1 driver again. I hope Robert gets alot of attention and respect out there. He has earned it just to be there before he even gets in the race seat.

Great video, but it could have been worth a mention that Kubica couldn't fully contest the wdc 2008 bc of BMW stopping R&D on the f1.08 very early in the season to focus on the 2009 car, which failed miserably

Nice video, but dude calling a car that have 3 wins, 15 podiums and 2 poles "ridiculously bad" is really really stretching it. I've been watching F1 since 1984 and i have seen ridiculously bad f1 cars. The F2012 wasn't one of them. Unfortunately the F2012 is how Alonso displayd his "best" talent, by talking down his equipment to the extend that the whole world believed him. In Formula1 a ridiculous bad car doesn't even finish a season, nevermind taking the championship to the last race, doesn't matter how great a driver you are. Thanks for your channel and keep up the great work.

I'll always treasure the memory of running around my living room celebrating after he won at Montreal in 2008. He'll always be one of my top F1 drivers

Wonderful vid, just wanted to add that Robert's scored first podium in just his third race in F1 :) Edit: as much as I admire your love for Robert, I must disagree on one thing: when Robert said he's ready, he meant that he can be as good as he was in 2010, believe me. He just needs some time, that's all. Following this man for so many years up close, I know what I'm saying:)

theres no doubt in my mind that if he never got into such a serious accident he would have been a champion by now...he was just that good! and though his 2019 season wasnt the best results wise...i think the fact that he made it back into F1 after such adversity is an achievent in itself on the level of a drivers championship. nothing but respect for the man. i lowkey hope he comes back to F1 and wins a championship...he deserves it

Massa was set to replace Kimi as no. 1 after 2009, but had his accident that limited his performance. Kubica was set to get that seat after Massa but had his accident that took long to recover and severely limited his performance. Jules Bianchi was set to replace Kimi, but died tragically in an accident before he could join the team. Tread lightly, Charles..

nelpan How is that even remotely comparable? Lauda was back after just missing two races. His face got burned but otherwise he had no serious or crippling injuries. His lungs received no lasting damage. Kubica nearly lost his entire arm and was told he would never again race any car and his racing career was over. He found a drive after being away 8 full seasons from F1.
