I am a toxicology graduate and we learned about the Aqua Dots recall in class. I remembered having the toy as a kid and still had it in storage. I went home and looked at it closer and it was one of the models from 2007 before they remade it without the toxic chemical. It is now displayed at my university by our toxicology classes!

Roofie used to describe the drug Rohypnol I believe. But NOW it’s more of a blanket term so you could put anything in someone drink that alters their mental and or physical abilities and say their drink was “roofied”. If that makes sense.
@902496 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you're right. If I remember correctly, the specific thing that the aquadots metabolized into was GHB. That said, basically anything one might classify as a roofie was initially developed for medical purposes, probably as a sedative.
@ivannatinkle Жыл бұрын
Yes, roofies are benzodiazepines, but 1,4 BDO is an industrial chemical that has legitimate uses in manufacturing and whatnot, but if you consume it your body metabolizes it into GHB, the 'date r*pe drug'. No bueno when it's coated on a small toy lmao
@Khorza Жыл бұрын
"Roofies" is rohypnol, but Aqua Dots were sprayed with a chemical that produced GHB. Found this with a quick Google search, the lack of research is odd given the production value.
@celeste7959 Жыл бұрын
A roofie is Rohypnol (aka Flunitrazepam), which is a strong benzo (like Valium, Xanax, Ativan, etc) that’s prescribed for severe insomnia or as a sedative for procedures. It’s not an illicit substance in that it can be prescribed in ways that generally help people- but it’s not something that can be purchased over the counter.

The asbestos CSI powder is scary, but talcum is often mined near asbestos to the point where J&J has to change the entire formula of their baby powder to not include talcum because of lawsuits and won't expect the talc powders to be removed from the shelves until sometime this year. Basically, even if you didn't use the kit, you're probably still at risk from asbestos issues by virtue of being an infant who wore diapers.

The drug was legal at times, you can still buy a certain drug with same makeup for anxiety and sedation. The original drug is illegal in most countries but other drugs like mentioned do the same thing so yea.
