I actually loved this room. The idea of having all the walls and its decorations along side the pillars in white while colorizing the room with furniture. I wish I could do something like this
@ATWTMVTVFTVSGAVRALPS2 жыл бұрын
I think the reason why the R&W room wasn't so popular is because of the small door that blends in with the wall so passengers probably didn't notice it on both Olympic and Titanic? I think it would be better if it had the same double glass door like the lounge.

As far as I know there was a light sign on the ceiling of the hallway.

Thomas Andrew was going to make the room smaller and add additional staterooms!

Great video! I too think it's because it wasn't cozy enough, and they way the furniture was arranged it could perhaps get a bit "uncomfortable" to walk in and claim one's seat, where it would feel much more natural in the lounge. If it was arranged more in the way of a private home's sitting room than in this manner that screams "public space" to me, I think it would had been much more cozy and inviting to hang out in. The naming of the room maybe the reason aswell. I was surprised to hear it was intented as an after dinner room for the ladies to socialize, since the name itself gives the impression of a room intented for quiet reflection. Thank you for pointing out the other reasons as well! Like the discrete door not making it too inviting to enter - like you stumbled upon a private club. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to more vids like these!

Wonderful video! I knew practically nothing about this room, and enjoyed learning more. It was a beautiful room, and in a style I like. Although I am a man, I’ve always tended to seek out quieter, less known places wherever I have traveled, so probably would have used this room quite a bit.

Margaret Brown wrote an article of the diaster for the Newport Herald following the disaster, and she mentioned some things about the R&W room, which actually was quite good: "After luncheon, or about two-thirty, the favourite and popular place was the reading room, where the passengers settled themselves comfortably with some chosen book from the well-equipped library on the ship." ---George Behe, "On Board RMS Titanic: Memories of the Maiden Voyage". I'm not sure whether is popular or not...

This Reading and Writing Room on RMS TITANIC has quite a similar design as the Library and Writing Room on RMS LUSITANIA, except Lusitania’s Library and Writing Room was located on Boat Deck behind the First-Class Staircase. I honestly assume that J Bruce Ismay and his interior designer Thomas Andrew were influenced by the interior designs on RMS LUSITANIA like her First Class accommodations of the Dining Saloon, Lounge-Music Room, Smoking Room and her Veranda Cafe.

According to a video I saw regarding the reading room on Titanic, the photo said to have been taken by Frank Browne of that room when he was onboard Titanic prior to leaving at Queenstown was not actually from Titanic but from Olympic due to the light coming through the windows. The photos shown here match the recreated Titanic Honor and Glory design of the room, but they don't match the photos of the actual room from Titanic, unless those photo's aren't from Titanic. The photo said to be from Titanic's reading and writing room shows the fire surround closer to the window, and the window appears quite small. Maybe someone is getting confused and thinking it's of the reading room when could've been of one of the private suites on B deck.

It wouldnt be hard to miss. It had one entrance down a companionway. one could mistake it for entrance to a closet or storage space. it should have had glass windows on the walls facing the companionway or the wall where the door was.
@rmstitanic.design91703 жыл бұрын
The point is that the door was nondescript, and same colour and moulding as the walls. If it was closed it would be hard to spot, especially as the corridor lead to the lounge with a more obvious door

Interesting to note that Despite of Its outdation the R&R was still added to future white star liners to the end reaching even the Britannic class of the late 1920’s but more Smaller and could have a Church service to be held in it.
