I am so grateful I could hear this conversation with one of the artist that inspires me the most! Thank you! On the part were you refer to Aphex Twin, I thought you were talking about Koreless, who makes profound music entirely bypassing traditional 'drums'. In an interview about his innovative score for the movie 'Dune', Hans Zimmer also referred to the future of music as music as humans being able to enjoy music without a beat. My point is I think we are getting there, and artists like Ryan Lee West are shedding light on that path. Also congrats on getting to a full time creative job, it is challenging for sure but it will certainly prove fullfilling on many levels. 🙏✨

Great interview. In the best possible way, I always felt that Rival Consoles albums sounded expensively recorded. Really nice to see that, while his studio doesn't hold him back, the end result is more due to his musical sense, intuition and relentless creative process. I do think that being surrounded by a general atmosphere of creativity helps. I was inspired everyday being around up and coming musicians in university music departments.

Great way to return. Enjoyed this immensely. Would love to hear similar chat with Surgeon’s Girl who’s work I have also become obsessed with, think she’s playing the Bristol event soon? The Digitakt stuff on her KZbin channel is amazing.

I believe Ryan’s way of making music is like an artist’s sketches before making a master piece. Each sketch becomes a colour, texture or section of the canvas. It shows in the visual side of Rival Consoles’s music

so cool what he's saying about playing music in different settings revealing new things in it. YOU will feel differently about your own music just watching someone else listen to it. really interesting part of the creative process and cool to hear him talk about it! great interview

Love the direction all of this is taking you MM. Welcome back mate. Just out of curiosity... Is there a long form version of the Intro music? It's truly early Analogue Bubble bath Aphex meets Vince Clarke esque wonderful... I really need more.

Thanks mate - no long version, I wrote it for the podcast so currently is what it is! Interestingly (your mileage may vary) it used Plaits before plaits was public knowledge, and the weird FX on it are Eventide H3000!

0:27:42 Slow Song and Lone all the way then discovering you from N++, I loved on Night Melody. And somehow their attack, being wet reverb, hundred percent. The attack feels quick!! Is this a property of only some reverbs on their fully wet setting? Please reply Ryan. (Met you w my mom from Israel before Articulations aired :)

Hey this was fantastic! Rival Consoles is one of my major aspirational influences... The thing about the name threw me too.. He is a gamer, but he didn't mean it that way? haha. It makes sense the other way, perhaps unintended alternate meaning. I guess at the core it still draws people interested in technology. I definitely feel a lot of Sega in his music.
