Why do we celebrate Diwali?
I think we all know why we celebrate Diwali? Or do we? Is it only a Hindu festival? If its about Ram why do we worship Lakshmi? And my fav question -- When Lord Ram came home on this day whom did he greet before anyone else? Watch this video to find out!
Diwali is celebrated all across the world - In fact it is an official holiday in Fiji, India, Malaysia Mauritius,, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and many more countries.
Many religions, and not just Hinduism, have their very own important and historical reasons to celebrate this day
Followers of Jainism, celebrate this day, as Mahaveer swami had attained Nirvana on this day.
On diwali, Sikh, celebrate their sixth guru, Guru Hargobind’s release from prison.
And of course in one of the famous stories, Hindus light diyas in happiness on the return of Shri Ram, BUT the prayers are mostly offered to Goddess Laxmi. It is believed that goddess Lakshmi emerged during Samudra Manthan on this day and so, officially, this is her birthday.
As you have guessed by know -- there is no ONE reason to celebrate Diwali.. But do you know what is MY fav reason is? Let me tell you a story.. Or rather, let me ASK you a question.. If you have heard the story about Lord Ram coming home on this day, do you know who he greeted first?
No it was not his mom Kaushailya, not his brother Bharath, Not the people of Ayodhya.. But it was actually his step-mom Kaikayi.. The person who sent him to the forest for 14 difficult years. Ram came, and before anything else touched Kaikai’s feet, who of course was filled with guilty and remorse. He then hugged her and just like that took away all the pain she was carrying in heart for all those years..
I wish you all a very happy Diwali.. And just like Lord Ram, I hope this Diwali you forgive others, spread love and have lots of fun!
Till next time - keep celebrating!
