As a hearing person I never thought about how hard of hearing people may prefer ASL over subtitles, but it makes so much sense! It’s cool that the creators of Barbie did this!

I'm hearing but have been slowly learning ASL over the past several years & I thought the interpreter for Barbie was fantastic. It looked like she had a lot of fun & her energy through it all was amazing.

I havent seen Barbie yet, but I m happy they add a interpreter!! Fun fact: soo, in Czech Republic we have public television and broadcast and they must provide same services to every group who is watching So, around holiday season, they add some fairytales. Every day! These fairytales either have interpreter in the corner or characters are singning. In both ways subtitles or voiceover is provided. My mum love these, bcs these fairytales are calm, storylines make sense and usually better to understand then classics This television also provide news every day in czech sign language and interpretor in corner with popular stuff So, yeah, it is possible, i dont why other countries dont have those

Just now saw BARBIE advertised on CraveTV (Canada), but no indication that it airs with ASL transation. 2:11

Is CraveTV the Canadian equivalent of MAX or?

@@rikkipoynter Home screen shows MAX but not Crave, so I can't really say. EDIT: *But* on the other hand, it's on available channels, meaning it's not a streamng channel, but a subscription channel.

Linda Bove did the ASL interpretation of Land Before Time II on VHS, and Sean Berdy/Amber Zion did the one for Ice Age 4's Blu-Ray.

I believe Disney plus has this available for very specific/ limited titles (I think ant man was one?) and then there is also a chrome Extension that allows an overlay from a 3rd party that’s community funded. It’s super helpful for young kiddos who can’t fluidly read captions.

@@rikkipoynter guessing they wanted to keep it as a streaming exclusive. That, or they’d add it down the line for a Barbie Anniversary, that is, if physical media remains relevant to the public and not just a niche audience 😔

​@rikkipoynter But wouldn't it be the same burning the file to DVD/BluRay with the ASL overlay track as it is to burn the file without the option of the ASL overlay track? The media is essentially already there and available, so it would make sense that they *COULD* do it if they wanted to, but they chose not to.

If any of your viewers live in the UK, BBC iplayer has signed programming and Channel 4 does too. It's BSL of course, but a very cool access feature!
