Damn gamefreak is always out to get the Sneasel line ever since it's debut, it had no stab and it's special attack was only base 35, on top of that you couldn't even find it in it's debut region and a fun fact, for whatever reason it had access to surf lol

My best guess for the Surf thing is that gamefreak decided to make it a nice HM slave as you couldnt really use it in battle before the split. Sneasel was probably suppose to be kindofa new fan favourite because its amazing desing but gamefreak fffed up with its stats/typing.

I think TA would be fine since crash and spinner are decent, but knock off is too harsh, he is one of the first mons you think of when you think about scary hard hitting knock offs, up there with the likes of bisharp

Always felt that Weavile in gen 8 was a benefactor of pieces just falling into place. No Z-crystals and megas meant Knock got a buff, few mons matching it’s speed tier, introduction of boots, and Triple Axel with Chomp and Lando running around all made it good conditions for Weavile but change any of those and it’s not the same threat it was as we see in gen 9

to be fair, if weavile still had the same stuff as before it would be pretty good. only good mons that outspeed weavile rn are dragapult, booster energy mons, dragonite, and scarfers. garchomp, amoonguss, clodsire, ting lu, and most importantly, great tusk, are all good defensive mons that weavile threatens greatly without tera included. weavile certainly wouldn't be the best mon in sv ou if it had knock off and triple axel but it would definitely still be quite good in it.

I have always wanted weavile to be a crit pokemon, nightslash is so iconic to weavile that if weavile had super luck or another crit based ability it could have a niche as a tank destroyer. but for now it has a 70 base power dark move with almost no secondary effect.

Even if they no longer have access to Triple Axel or Knock Off, there was absolutely no reason to remove Throat Chop from Sneasel's and Weavile's moveset. Now they have no reliable Dark-type STAB. Hopefully GF rectifies that and gives them back the move. *EDIT:* Apparently the upcoming HOME update brought Triple Axel and Throat Chop back for Weavile!

Okay but what was throat chop really used for? Its 10 points higher but factoring in the higher crit rate of Night Slash would make slash stronger? What pokemon would Throat Chop even be used on? Aint gonna stay in on a Sylveon if I cant OHKO it. Aint staying on on Croc starter sonce most are defensive. Like the Higher BP on effectively a vanilia move isnt worth it over the higher potential output from NS imo

SuperSayianWarrior The effective damage for Night Slash is only 73, factoring in the ~8.33% higher chance to deal 1.5x damage without crit chance boosting items. So Throat Chop is still better, having both a higher minimum damage and a higher damage average.

10 power. That is it. Its why people use Hydro Pump over Surf. That small amount of power increase actually matters quite a bit. Similarly there was a debate over Icicle Crash vs Ice Spinner on Chein Pao. That small number really matters when calculating benchmarks needed to KO certain threats. For instance, Throat Chop has a 100% chance to OHKO a standard Bronzong set after Stealth Rocks on Choice Band Weavile. Night Slash Weavile only KOs when it crits and you would rather want a 100% of a OHKO than a 12.5% chance to OHKO. Since Weavile doesn't have Throat Chop or Crunch, it actually misses out on OHKO all Bronzong sets now which can retaliate with Body Press or Gyro Ball and OHKO it back.

Weavile is currently the #1 pokemon in natdex UU, and natdex UU is a much higher power level than regular UU with former OU staples like excadrill + ttar, gliscor, tapu fini etc That just shows how much of a difference 2 moves make

Those were staple moves from Weavile, a 120 power ice move that may be 72% accurate, but sometimes you don't even need the extra hits, and Knock Off almost guaranteed a 97.5 base power dark move the first time that removes one of the main things Pokémon use to stay good in the meta, items. (Typing, Ability and Movepools as the rest of the 4)

A lot of people would run Life Orb Weavile. I personally never fought anyone with Band. But yeah SD is the smart thing to do which sadly not many people or ANY people that I fought used SD on Weavile. Chien Pao is Weavile on steroids but Weavile still has Brick Break and Low Kick. It’s still pretty good but you’re right. Every new generation drastically changes the meta. Anything can happen. Makes you wonder how everything will change once bank and DLC is out.

It's 90% chance just a technicality thing and not a calculated decision by Game Freak. Weavile has always gotten Knock Off specifically from tutors. Even in Gen 8, it could only get it through transfer from earlier gens. And with transfer moves not being possible anymore, Weavile just loses access to it. If tutor moves return in the DLC, chances are Weavile gets it back.
