I got attacked one time by a skinny 5ft nothing totally unarmed dude high af on pcp and screaming incoherently trying to rip my face off with his fingernails. I'm a 6ft3in 250# ex-college wrestler with a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I was just out of the Marine Corps at the time. He almost succeeded and I just barely got control of him. No mystery to me why the berserkers were so effective.

How do you know that he was _high af on pcp?_ Did you provide it to him or perform the drug test on him? A black belt in Tae Kwon Do is nothing more than a worthless choreography participation award and folk style wrestling has as much to do with fighting as being in the Marine Corps, not a damn thing. Prefacing your inability to handle someone, with what you believe to be credentials, is laughable. None of the psychedelic and/or dissociative drugs are responsible for enhancing the fighting prowess of anyone; not Psilocybin, Phencyclidine or ________.

At 14:00 the clinker built structure of the ship is described. And here they could have mentioned what influence that had on the speed of the vessel. When sailing with sails in a good wind the ship will reach a certain speed and then the clinker structure will drag bubbles - like pearls on a string - in under the ship. These bubbles function like ball bearings and when it happens you feel a sudden rush of increased speed. I've had the privilege of trying this on a smaller viking ship on Roskilde Fjord. Much faster ships than any other ship of its time. Skål‼ 🎈

For all the unwashed and uneducated people on YT The Eastern Slavs were not slaves of the Vikings as they were fiercely independent and repulsed any attacks of the Vikings which never went past the beach of the Baltic Sea as the attacks were not powerful and the Slavs were many. Because the Slavs were waring amongst themselves and they saw the Vikings were living peacefully amongst themselves they decided to invite three princes of the Varangians to rule over them and Rurik was one of them. The painting called THE INVITATION is on display in the palace in ST. Petersburg. Later the Vikings were allowed to travel on the rivers down to Constantinople for trading and payed the Slavs to portage their ships between rivers. The Vikings also built their distinctive houses in Russia and settled there as the trapping business was very lucrative and fetched good prices in Europe and Constantinople.

@@Dan-cn2rj it’s not a bad video, it’s just as basic as basic gets about Norse history, & it’s badly titled & as far as I could tell having watched 80% of it, it’s got nothing to do with Berserkers at all. For all the ignorant FWits on YT Slavs is an English word. They themselves called SLOVAN meaning the WORD or anyone who could speak it were Slovans. Others were known as NEMEC meaning MUTES referred to Germans. They were the largest population ever to enter Europe and part of the Indo Europeans who came in 3500 BC and settled from Southern Norway and Sweden all the way to the Urals. They were the Corded Ware Culture carrying the R1a genome. They have been traced by the corded pottery they left behind and found in Southern Sweden and Norway proving the Norse and Slavs are related.

Legend or history - judge for yourself. During the Nordic wars, the ''berjast við úlfa''the warrior order or fraternity an elite at the service of the highest bidder an order of warriors were a warrior elite, similar to the berserkir, but more refined and religious, followers of the ancient gods Nordic and a new creed imported by Móðir-Jörð, these Vikings could be the image we have of the horned helmet Vikings, since some used them as a symbol of the goat, an allusion to their manhood, which the leaders and corporals used to wear. of war. When times of peace arrived, the rulers wanted to dissolve them, they were already Christian kings, they hated Christianity, looted and killed them, having no resources, they dedicated themselves to banditry, and the Scandinavian kings hunted them down and cornered them, upon seeing their extinction, they fled to Iceland with 26 ships. In Iceland they were not allowed to disembark, so they went west in search of a new land and discovered in a land they called TULAND, a land that for most people did not exist except in some legend, today is East Greenland. As new arrivals, the Móðir-Jörð doctrine forces them to be correct with the natives and they learned from the INUIT natives, and became experts in dog sledding.'' -hundasleða- ''they loved it. But they continued to bother the Scandinavians, plundering their ships and coasts in search of firewood, food, silver and women, and the Scandinavian kings, already tired of their search, searched hard for them and finally found them in Tuland (Eastern Greenland), killing them. After 70 years of living on those coasts they became extinct, they gave orders to ban the sagas ''tales'' about the warriors of TULAND under penalty of death.

There is almost no evidence of Berserkers to begin with and what we do have points towards them being the well educated, highly trained and well equipped right hand of their king. Being a person granted a bear skin (berserker) was a badge of office. One part field general and one part diplomat. They were not naked drug fueled madmen unleashed on the battlefield who fought like animals, that is fantasy literally made up for games like Dungeons & Dragons. It's crazy how well that fairy tale version has stuck in the public mind that even educated scholars get swayed into thinking it was real without any conclusive evidence. Were there drugged up vikings that acted nuts? Undoubtedly. They were not however Berserkers, nor were they an intentional part of the fighting force.

@@flashovr24 Aye another internet theory pulled out the air ! We have many examples of berserkers but what they were was more akin to a cult , a cult of roving maniacs that were useful recruited into an army but in society were increasingly becoming a problem . Remember Norse culture is way more than the viking period and went through a lot of change . People need to stick to what little we do know and not get carried away with what they see on TV shows.

So replies to my comments have no historical basis and are full of emotional baloney even though I kept my comments to the historical facts taught in Russian universities. The perception about Slavs in the West is they were subhuman and backward as thought by Hitler but Hitler got his country destroyed mainly by Slavs and some ASians. The same happened when I posted comments about Ukraine 2 years ago but who has defeated Ukraine and Nato. So the pathetic concept in the West is that Vikings were some sort of super humans and Slavs were slaves of the Vikings which is untrue and highly offensive. The historical facts are that Vikings only raided settlements of civilians because they were soft targets and stole Slav women in isolated villages along the Volga which was practiced by everyone including Muslims and Central Asian nomads. One other historical fact the Slavs knew well about is the Slav men bathed every day and the Vikings never washed and Slav women would refuse to marry a Viking because they said they stank to high heaven.

Vikings could only harm people from the West of Europe. ie Britain and France but could not defeat the Eastern peoples from the North, the Slavs, Balts and Finns due to these people being much tougher and used to hard conditions like constant hunting to survive . The Slavs which comprise at least 60% of Indo Europeans battled fierce wolves, bears and large cats which are now extinct and rowed and travelled huge distances by foot whereas the Westerners were soft having lived city lives for centuries. The OTHER Northern people are not mentioned in You Tune due to political reasons having defeated the Germanics at every turn, ie the Danes, Teutonic knights defeated by Lithuanians and Russ at 3 major battles, 1240, 1242 and 1410. The Swedes were defeated later on by the Russians led by Peter the Great, which gave rise to Napoleon which again was defeated by Russia. Then came Hitler who was taught to never invade the Slavs.

I think you might be mistaken, as the word slave comes from slav. In addition look how many Russians are giant blonde viking looking dudes and how few stubby, hairy black haired people. Slavs got rolled hard for centuries by little Mongolians. Vikings got smushed by Irish clans too. Everybody in Eurasia has wins and losses. Hitler and the Germans took over huge areas of Slavic lands for many years before they got pushed out and the Russians depended on American money to win. Things are a lot more complicated than what you described and the Slavs have never had a global empire. They're trash at politics and capitalism.

Raise your horns into the air, there is plenty ale to share. All are welcome, take a chair and sing a song loud and strong. Men of war and men of care, maidens fierce and maidens fair. Raise your horns into the air and sing a song loud and proud and strong! Sing loud and strong! Skål! Skål! It gladdens me to know that Odin prepares for a feast. Soon I shall be drinking ale from curved horns. This hero that comes into Valhalla does not lament his death! I shall not enter Odin's hall with fear. There i shall wait for my sons to join me. And when they fo, i will bask in their tales of triumph. The Aesir will welcome me! My death comes without apology! And I welcome the Valkyries to summon me home!
