Wasn't premeditated murder though, Beth Ann set her husband up to die but I'm not even sure legally she can be convicted of anything. The jealous neighbour acted of his own free will and tossing an empty gun to someone isn't criminal.
@redscrunchie2228 ай бұрын
Masterminding a crime is illegal. Like very illegal, she planned out a murder and manipulated both Rob and Ralph to set up Rob to die and Ralph to take the fall, technically she also manipulated Mary. Mary was the accomplice though which does make Mary less guilty.

The difference of each husband’s lines: Beth’s husband only remembers her to make him sandwiches and her being a virgin to their wedding night, representing ownership and Simone’s husband looks at her and knows that she herself knows she’s hot and owning it, and never bothers when he’s her third husband. Taylor’s husband is appreciative of her sexuality and a feminist and a lawyer.

And that gave him an excuse to give up work and let her pay off the mortgage all by herself. He was a rich Jew who got a creative job as a screen writer, and she worked her ass off to become a lawyer, and he doesn't seem to appreciate that or give her a break. Think about that. He also didn't see how unhappy she was with the marriage because of him, so he suggested an open relationship, anything so he looks like a good guy. He's a beta male.

@@verakukic243 she suggested the open marriage
@parasitoalienigena3 жыл бұрын
@@verakukic243 Actually that's half the story. He was rich because he was a very good screen writer who made one great script, and because of that success they moved into the house. They were going split at that time. But he had drug addiction, because he used drugs to get inspiration, and he abused them. So she forced him to rehab, and since then he had a creative block and had to rely economically on her. Is true he's not the best, but he's seems a really good partner in certain aspects. I like for example that he gets jealous not about sex but about emotional intimacy, like when he discover his wife is in actual love with that girl and it's not just sex, but he doesn't act on that childishly, he simply gets upset with her hiding him information and upset about himself beign blocked, which seems more mature than getting angry like she does when she meets the other girl's friends. Besides, I think we meet this character in very low points for him, like creative block and drug addiction, and that makes us hard to see his virtues, but he seems like a really chill dude, with a great heart. Otherwise, I doubt his wife would bother to help him rehab twice or worry about him at all. Plus, if she hadn't be ok with fully taking care of him, she could have divorce him anytime. But she does loves him enaugh to take care of him at his worst.

They actually foreshadowed a bit of the story. Mary Beth Ann says “or you could befriend/forgive her” She becomes friends and forgives the girl who knowingly got involved in the marriage. Simone says “a friend guilty of betrayal.” This could apply to the hairdresser, but I think it’s referring to her friend who kept a secret from her and later attempt to murder her. Taylor says “condemn her”. I would say she condemned Jade for sure.

I loved the show. The only thing that bugged me was how they sort of implied that bisexual people are cheaters because of their bisexuality. Like they have an open marriage to have their flings because she’s bisexual and they end the open marriage to be monogamous but ”I know your sexuality is important to you”. Being attracted to more than one gender doesn’t mean you automatically sleep around and can’t give yourself to one person. Those are two completely unrelated things.
@lulupomegranate Жыл бұрын
They did not imply that. She NEVER cheated on him. They ended the open marriage thing not because her sexuality is no longer important to her but because they have different priorities by the end of the relationship and more important stuff to focus on. He too was more than happy to have an open relationship, it was never forced upon him. Bi people are allowed to be poly without being labelled as cheaters.
@juliawacker5 ай бұрын
@@lulupomegranatethey didn't say that she cheated but they had rules for their open marriage, and she dismissed them by lying about how long her affair was going on, she opened her home to just a friend, that was actually her lover and just because you opened the marriage to see other people, it does not equal that you start a serious relationship with them without telling your spouse and without their consent. So you should say bi people can have polygamous relationships if all people involved are OK with it, but if you are in a monogamous relationship, you and your partner agree to see other people but keeping it casual is a different thing. Don't confuse open marriages to polyamory.
@lulupomegranate5 ай бұрын
@@juliawacker That is all very well and true, but it once more has nothing to do with her sexuality. I could barely stand her character in the first few episodes, until the plot started spinning and revealing WHY she was making those bad choices. Not an excuse of course, but a very real explanation and something that can be forgiven. She started with the boundary pushing when it comes to romance, he followed her example (again, he too had his reasons, not an excuse but an explanation). They both turned to Jade in an unhealthy manner in response to the issues in their marriage, and then found each other again when it threatened to ruin their relationship. Because no matter the problems, they love each other.
@miryam8153 ай бұрын
you know bad and/or messy characters can exist without making a statement about every single irl person they share a trait with? i like seeing messy bisexual characters who arent doing things right. its 2024, theres plenty of "healthy" "positive" bisexual rep. sometimes that stuff is true to life. but all people, even gay people, do the wrong things sometimes, and its not wrong to show that
@sharondiane20612 ай бұрын
She wanted to live her sexuality through an open marriage. It's not that because of her bisexuality, she wanted an open marriage. Whether she was bisexual or heterosexual is irrelevant. She simply wanted an open marriage, and they agreed that their lovers could only be women. Nothing more, no over-analysis.

I liked Beth Anne's and Rob's parts the most, it shows how he thinks so little of how she feels and who she really became: he still sees her as this dainty, naive, weak willed and emotional woman like any other old timer husband. However you can see just from her eyes that she is no longer the loving and forgiving woman she was, despite how menacing she may have become, she still retained her innocent self when interacting with April because she knew it wasn't her fault either that Rob is an absolute douchebag, a shitty father and a terrible husband
