To be fair, I respect domain decks so much more now. Trilands were just silly, especially the fact that they simultaneously counted as 3 different basic land types. Now there's at least some process involved where they have to earn their leyline bindings.

The matchmaker is pretty funny. My blue/white control deck that is of course designed to beat aggro decks... only faces aggro decks about 10% of the time.

Yep this is exactly what happens to me. As soon as I switch decks to counter what I'm going up against the matchmaker does a complete 180 on me. Making me draw 4 cut downs in a row after against blue/white control was enough for me to be done for the day also.

The match making system is weird.. I never played against a colorless deck my couple years playing arena and the first game I test out my colorless deck I get paired with a player using a colorless deck..? Also.. I was out of deck ideas so I used the green starter deck for fun & got paired against someone using the black starter deck..?

I'm newish to arena but I don't get the interaction at 28:56, how did he play that card before he conceded, he didn't have the blue mana available to cast it, how did he show the card to CGB, why did it go on the stack. If I play a card that requires decisions and then cancel it, does the opponent see it? I thought not but even if that is the case how did he play a card he didn't have the mana value to play? Edit: I mean I get the idea that he conceded because he couldn't counter Jace but how did he show the card without having the mana to cast it. When you play a card that requires additional costs like sac or the spree cards, does the opponent see before you cast it? Like if you play an offspring card but then cancel does the opponent see the card because you definitely tap for those after selecting how you want to play it, same with kicker.

It looks like he played a card and arena ask him to pay right mana and then he concede. After concede sometime arena do strange things like not counting life gain if concede was in the middle of battle and showing cards like they been played like that one in cgb game

It is already on the Pro Tour. All you need are, *04 Spinewoods Armadillo 04 Pawpatch Formation 03 Beza, the Bounding Spring 01 Tranquil Frillback 02 Feed the Cycle 02 Go for the Throat* The creature-control cards are self-explanatory. Pawpatch Formation is mainly to kill Slickshot Show-Off birds. The Armadillo and Bezas are there to net you life. This build will give you some game against hyper-aggressive strategies. It is not because you defeated a horrible mono-red player in this video that your build is ready?! Wait ‘till you get to the Pro Tour… I consistently kill with mono-red by turn-3 (turn-4 with a bad hand...) ...

Mono black has a funny matchup into this deck. The discard variant will get out valued and just die, but the aggro or midrange variants can just draw enough threats/ removal while people ramp and remove everything then eventually play Virtue of Persistence, bringing out the enemy's Atraxa every upkeep.

I played this exact deck yesterday with my discard deck. I pretty much crushed them to a slow yet steady death. Season of the Loss twice….then my Virtue of Strength stole their Atraxa at the end.

​@@magne0 I believe if you concede between announcing a spell to cast and paying its cost, the game reveals the announced spell to the other player. I see it often as a "wanted to cast this but couldn't get there" type of move

They didn't. They announced it without paying - just attempted to cast the card without the mana. If you try to do that, Arena will prompt you to pay the mana - they conceded with that prompt on screen.

@@_SweetJP Yes, it was obious that he didn't have another basic. But, Phantom Interference was discounted by Mindsplice Apparatus and the opponent only needed one blue mana to cast it, which he would have had if he had tapped correctly the previous turn.

A lot of the time no one 'makes' a deck, it's just something that's obviously good or otherwise appealing to a lot of people, so an approximate deck list is naturally solved over time. I'd argue it's *relatively* uncommon for someone to just make a new deck that then spreads around and gets played as-is. As for "oops all discard", it's a pretty old concept that people try to build in any meta that has any discard in it; the current deck was always going to exist pretty soon after release.

Because all it does in this deck is give you full domain a bit faster, which simply is not worth the card. Herd Migration costs 7 mana and you should naturally hit full domain or close to it by then anyway, so it's a bit like a Dark Ritual that you can only use on your early game Leyline Bindings. Leyline works best in decks that really abuse having domain and/or making its creatures count as all colours within the first few turns, e.g. with Case of the Shattered Pact, Scion of Draco, Wild Nacatl, Territorial Kavu.

I gave up on ever expecting other players to build their own decks on Arena rather than just playing the same old meta decks. I am a fish out of water whenever playing that game. People don’t even slightly tweak the deck to be different and their own. I likely know every card in an opponents deck by turn 2.

I'd imagine most people don't have the wildcards to redeem new decks. I'd love to build a new deck with Bloomburrow stuff, I freakin' adore the set, but I've got practically no wildcards and there's not way in hell I'm spending real world money to get them.

@@Fauna_CR It’s not that most of them are for example playing an Atraxa deck, it’s that they just download the meta version. I expect that the archetypes are going to exist, but if I were to play versus 100 Atraxa decks, probably 95+ of them are the exact same deck. Not even a one card difference just to try something new. That’s not a wild card problem (if anything a lack of wild cards should encourage some deviation). It’s a player problem.

The matchmaker sucks my favorite brawl deck is my Coram deck. Ive played sooo many games and not once faced another Coram with it which is what i wanna do. Coram vs coram would be so fun i think but it wont let me match against another coram. I built a new deck finally to try out maha, 2nd game with it i faced a coram. The unranked matchmaker was almost fully revealed due to a bug not too long ago. It's basically based on a points system; for Brawl decks, the commander has a very significant contribution to the scoring. It's entirely possible that most Coram decks have a very different score to your own due to the deck composition: your deck might be either significantly stronger or significantly weaker than the average.

Dont get me wrong both decks in that game are fcking terrible. Have so many weaknesses, but damn is that blue players deck just the most pointless garbage. It has no realistic wincon.

You can make any skill-based game competitive. The only things that cannot be made competitive are games of pure randomness, or games where the randomness component is so high it might as well be almost pure randomness. Best of 1 constructed _is_ a skill-based game, but there's still a significant randomness component, and best of 3/5 neutralise it better, hence the choice of format for competitive events. But there's no reason why you _can't_ have a best of 1 competitive event.
