It's video game history, of course people would want to preserve it, and make it accessible to future generations. I'm thankful to all the people working on games like this, games that are notorious or near-forgotten. It's thankless work for the most part, but it makes a difference.

Glorious. A ProPlaythrough of a true Legendary game. I’ve never actually seen a legit playthrough of this game. A ton of reviews, but this is my first time watching someone actually play it. The cutscenes are even better in full context.

Hot take: This game actually has a ton of potential. I know this is a Remastered version, but if somebody were to do an actual, serious remake of this game to make it a proper action game, it would likely be a lot of fun. In terms of this game, as memetic as the cutscenes are, my biggest memory of this game is actually that Arin from Game Grumps managed to beat this game using the CD-I's PowerPoint presentation controller.

As I understand it, the CD-I's Zelda games are so legendarily bad because the team tasked with making them were primarily artists, and had little to no experience with game development, coding, or animations. Thus they created paintings for the levels, and applied collision to the paintings. Which nicely explains the pretty but incomprehensible "can I stand on this, why can I stand on that but not this" nature of the levels.

Here's three quick pro tips for you: If you die in these games, you keep everything you collected. In the original games, you were supposed to keep jumping into a level and making little bits of progress at a time, because you keep all the keys and items you collect. So you go out of your way to get a key and then game over, then you can go back in and NOT have to waste hearts/lives on getting that key again. If you've finished an area and want to leave quickly, but there's no obvious exit nearby, just let yourself die and then let the timer run out to game over and get back to the map screen. The second tip is that your shield will only block things if you're standing still. This applies whether you're standing or crouching, and crouching can help you block stuff your shield otherwise would miss. If you want to pull your shield in front of you faster, doing a quick stab with the sword cancels your walk animation and stops your movement slightly faster than waiting to come to a full stop. Though this is less useful in the remaster since the animation is faster, and you stop sooner. The third tip is to KEEP LOADS OF BOMBS ON YOU AT ALL TIMES until you get the Power Glove. I was never comfortable with anything less than 20. Sometimes, a boulder needs 10 bombs to be destroyed for some reason (I dunno, but I would usually just wait until I get the Power Glove once I learn which boulders need so many) Power Glove basically replaces your bombs as a way to remove obstacles since they destroy them instantly in only one hit. After that, bombs are only useful as a way to quickly clear your immediate surrounding area of enemies and to kill things like Gohma and Dodongo from a distance. Power Gloves, like most items, require rupees to use, but in this version of the game, that will NOT be an issue. The order of preference for the items at the beginning of the game: Bombs > Lamp Oil > Rope. Lamp Oil goes quickly, so you do want to make sure you have a decent amount of it. Rope's only use is in helping you scale vertical levels faster, and even then, sometimes it just doesn't work. Later on in the game, you'll get lantern upgrades, though, that makes Lamp Oil have less priority. Still, I would try to keep at least 10 Lamp Oil cans on you as much as you can, just in case you really get stuck in a dark room. Also idk if you know this or not, but new exit scrolls in an area are what open up new areas on the world map for you to explore.

This is another of those games that I would like to watch someone play just to see what the whole game is, but I would never play myself. The walk speed and framerate already make it so much more bearable too. In other words: Yes, whole playthrough of this and Link Faces of Evil please =) Btw, anyone know why he plays standing now?

Standing or sitting for long periods are both not good. It's really all about building good habits, and taking breaks. Of course you can't just stop working every 30 minutes, but try to sit up straight and move your legs. When standing, don't lock your knees. Or you'll just be trading back problems for knee problems. And stretch daily.

I can't believe someone actually made a remaster to "fix" parts of this game to make it playable. This is so crazy to me, I'd welcome seeing more of this and the other CD-I Zelda. It definitely looks more improved with the smoother transitions and not needing to stop and stab every item to pick it up

wow, this is actually seems much, much improved, gameplay-wise. It's faster, has more responsive controls, a cleaner attack animation (before, Zelda would launch herself forward, very weird), an adjusted difficulty, subtitles... I'd love to see a full playthrough :D

Imagine just being TOLD about these Zelda titles. 3 Zelda games made for a "console" thats not only rare/expensive, but has a reputation for being poorly built. I believe the world was close to losing these wonderful pieces of gaming history, but the fans made it happen. Im genuinely grateful. (Also a shout out to whoever who helped with BS Zelda. Losing just ONE Zelda game is far too many!)

People seem to be generally helpful and friendly yet every single cutscene animated character is giving me real hard "mustache-twirling Jafar" vibes. Like, every single one of them is an old school Disney villain. This isn't a complaint, mind you; I've only seen memes and stills of this stuff, and it's actually kind of glorious. Like, just the RIGHT amount and kind of weird to be entertaining. Plus I'm digging the "welp seems like Link screwed the pooch so I guess gimme a sword and let's go save the boys" storyline, that's neat.

We all make mistakes in life. For me, I not only purchased the cd-i(I totally bought into the infomercials they had), but I also wasted a ton of money on the 3DO…those were the days. I will say, there was a game I had for the cd-i called Burncycle that I really enjoyed…if you can ever figure a way to play that one, it would be a treat.

Honestly you have no idea how much better the game is just on the fact cutscenese have subtitles. Characters give you important information but sometimes it's hard to work out what the hell they're saying due to how weird their voice is or they just talk too damn fast

The reason the animation is so bizarre and strange is because they got Russian animators they presumably got for cheap... Sorta similar to that Russian Treasure Island cartoon that got memed a while back with that cheery Dr. Livesey character
