That thing about the game telling you when quests are time-sensitive was a GREAT addition. Yes, it kind of acts as a spoiler. But alternatively, you could look at it as foreshadowing. At 14:47 you can see that (almost) all the quests from a place called "Alcamoth" are time-sensitive and will eventually expire. I looked at that and a chill ran down my spine as I realized "Oh, this place is DOOMED." Given that Shulk has a magic weapon that gives him visions of the future, it was an interesting touch rather than an immersion-break. Speaking of which, having him USE those visions of the future to supplement side-quests was great. If you're running around exploring and find a weird special key item lying around, rather than have Shulk say "Let's leave it here" or have it not even be there, he may get a future vision of someone asking for it, and go "Oh, guess I'll hold onto this for later and I should probably talk to that person when I see them." That's AWESOME game design!

(Spoilers) Here's another point for the game though, regarding the time-sensitive quests: for me, I had the same reaction seeing all of the timed quests in the Refugee Camp, but then you eventually find that they were all timed simply because you have the option to eventually move everybody from the refugee camp to Colony 6. Similar stuff happens with conditional quests where you can choose to either help one person or the other; nothing bad was going to happen. Introducing these before Alcamoth set in my mind, "I can't really make any inferences like that from time quests", so when I come to Alcamoth I didn't give it too much thought. If you think about it, that's a really smart decision by the devs.

I played xenogears chronicles 1 and is easily on my top 5 best games of all history, I put it right up there with ff6, chronotrigger and finan faltasy tactics; the problem is, I knew 2 was on switch too, so I kinda rushed on completing the game, didn't explore all the optional things nor completed most sidequests; then I jumped to xenogears chronicles 2 straight up expecting more of the same; more wonderful characters, more great battles, good battle mechanics, tons of customization for my characters -etc. But man oh man, what a disappointment it was

This game is an absolute beast, and I have ZERO IDEA how they managed to port it completely to the (new) 3DS while keeping the same gameplay and stable 30 fps. Yeah, the textures and models got compromised but the lower resolution of the handheld omits many of the cut corners.

I'm confident in saying that Xenoblade 1 (both og and definitive) is my favorite jrpg of all time simply because it's a 100+ hour jrpg that doesn't feel like it's 100+ hrs. The game contains a professional and consistent quality throughout the entire story, and the gem, arts, and skill systems are on par with ff7's materia in terms of the level of customization, minmaxing and depth, giving satisfying forms of both short and long term progression. My biggest complaint with the original was the lack of direction for sidequests, and when I played Definitive Edition and saw those blue markers, my opinion of the game went from a 4.6/5 to a 4.9. I would recommend Xenoblade 1 not just to fans of rpgs, but fans of video games in general. The creativity in its setting, motivations of its characters and the atmosphere set in each area by the music have gone unparalleled in the gaming industry in my opinion ever since the game originally dropped on Wii. Xenoblade Chronicles 1 is proof that video games deserve to be considered art.

I would argue against the grinding statement. Just beat the game for the first time. And I fought pretty much every enemy that aggroed me, and even cleared a lot of areas of all enemies I could. And for multiple bosses I was still under leveled. You pretty much have to do quests to keep up level wise.

XCX feels like a true expansion of xc1's ideas. It also feels like a response to xenoblade 1's criticism's about the game being too slow. So in contrast x is super fast paced in that you could sprint really fast and could leap insanely high and landing without taking damage.

After playing Xenoblade Chronicles for the first time via DE, Having taken 100 hours to beat, I can really feel (no pun intended) why this game is a masterpiece. Both fun and additicing gameplay and a story that evoles and changes the motivation over time really did keep me playing for so long. If I had some nitpicks, I really hate how the track 'Visions of the future' overrides other battle tracks in particular 'You will know our names' and 'An obstacle in our path'. I wouldn't be as salty if this track didn't sound so forgettable as well as interrupting the tone or atomsphere of some battles. Also speaking of visions, that's another nitpick I have, not for story reasons but gameplay, mainly because sometimes these visions can drag out for too long in a battle and even when my team is completely incapaticated anyways so it feels like a waste of time. On top that, these visions can come very early in a battle which again goes back to the first nitpick.

@@VGF80 Ok. So, the BGM changes whenever you break a vision bar, right? So, you just dont ever break any vision bars...but how do you ask? if i dont my guy dies? Simple: Partymembers are immune to dieing during a chain attack. Meaning, if you go into a chain attack after the vision bar expires, the attack of the monster will hit, but your partymembers wont die. They will still take a lot of damage, but since chain attacks heal it doesnt matter much. That way you can preserve the BGM

Honestly, I am having a lot of trouble getting into XC2. While I absolutely love the anime art style, I am not a big fan of cliche anime tropes, which XC2 has a ton of. Also, I had trouble taking the game seriously with the female character designs and the general tone of the game. I am considering still finishing the game for the sake of it, but so far it just has not been my cup of tea at all. XB1 absolutely nailed it for me in the characters, story, and tone of the game, in which both of the games are very different overall. So while I do like the art style of XB2, the personality of the game is likely just not for me. However, if they ever release X on the Switch, I will definitely try it out.

@@keeysOST It has tropes, as all games do, but I would not say most of them were frequent or typical tropes per se. The tropes that were used were more on the serious side of tropes, which added to the tone of the game a lot more. As for the character designs in two, I dislike it when games heavily sexualize the female characters, especially when it is almost every single one. I am not a huge fan of sexualized characters in general, but to be fair, that hardly ever actually happens to male characters. Unfortunately, I am just not finding myself enjoying the game.

I'm suuuper late to this since I've only just got around to playing XC2 and XC DE so I put off watching these videos. Yasunori Mitsuda only composed the ending theme for XC1 but did do a lot of the main themes and story cutscenes for XC2. Manami Kiyota was the main composer for XC1 and absolutely killed it, deserves recognition. Also on "win in game lose in cutscene" XC1 absolutely did this a few times but nowhere near as egregious as XC2. The penultimate boss fight comes to mind where I melted his stupid face to half his health bar and then suddenly my whole team is collapsed on the ground. Total bullshit.

Am I the only one that thinks that xenoblade 1's combat almost feels like an expanded version of chronotrigger combat. I know it's a stretch but I am referring to how enemy position matters a ton, some actions require multiple party members like stream edge and wild down=topple or how each attack has range and width.

(Spoilers for anyone who haven't finished the game. Don't read unless you completed the game. You have been warned.) I just finished it on the wii. I loved the story but the gameplay is broken. The hitboxes were terrible. Many of the enemies could hit you from the other side of the room regardless if they hit you or not. Many of the boss fights are too hard. Gadolt kept spawning more mechons and he kept spamming his shoulder cannons attacks. Egil in his giant mecha kept spawning more mechons too and it just makes it more difficult. Lorithia Had those glowing balls and the area had 4 ether pools. Even worst, the characters will stay in the pools until they die. Zanza in his second form was just way too overpowered. Another issue with this game is that there is so much grinding. The last few bosses in the game requires so much grinding. And the dungeons in this game are way too long. The mechonis interior dungeons was way too long and it felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. Even worst, there are super bosses next to your objective (those computer panal things) and you can't continue the story until you beat the super boss. My characters were level 84 when I finished the game and it took me 65 hours. Story: 9/10 There may have been some faults in the story but I was still interested in it and the characters. The story was the main reason I decided to tolerate the gameplay. Gameplay: 0/10 Boss fights were too hard, faulty hitboxes, dungeons were too long, honestly just let me fucking win already. They gameplay is just as broken as xenosaga 2 and final fantasy xiii. This game would be better if it had a skip battle options and lets you win automatically. I haven't played the definitive edition and I'm happy that people who missed out can play it. But I hope it fixes the issues.

I never really realised how stupid some of XC2's flaws are until I played XC1. While the poor guides made it frustrating on my first attempts I let it slide when revisiting later as I got used to it but after playing DE I just wonder- Why were they that bad? Why didn't the game acknowledge timed quests? Why winning in game often resulted in losing in the story? I will say that as far as individual party members in both games go my least favorite was the legendary Heropon and my favorite was the pervert Masterpon.

I like how everyone one wanted to play Xenoblade 1 and with DE they can easily pick it up...but so far DE sold worse than the Wii version...I'm sad that those people don't wanna play it...

xenoblade 1 is a good game, enjoyed my 200 hours with it on three different systems, but compared to X and 2 it’s the worst game on many fronts. Probably got the best story, but is sadly too reliant on the plot twists to really develop the party besides Shulk. 2 has a weaker story, but is more developed and feels complete. 90% of the 400 sidequests in XC1 are terrible outside of just getting money/exp. in terms of gameplay, it’s a good foundation for a new series. But once you understand topple locking and how agility works, then it becomes a cakewalk. This seems like a series tradition though since you can min/max the fuck out of party, but X and 2 go above and beyond with the level of customization/player expression that is possible with their gameplay systems. The characters in all Blade games for the most part aren’t as good as the one in Gears and Saga, but x and 2 at least have the decency to try and develop their characters outside of the protagonist. There’s only like 24 heart to hearts in 1, at THATS basically the development for the party members. World design is great, but the maps feel empty in plenty of spots like gaur plain, valak mountain, mechonis field, etc. player speed, fast mechs, etc made traversing way more fun. Tl;dr Xc1 is a good game, but the sequels outclass it in many aspects except for story maybe. But gears and saga outclass them in other aspects as well like story and characters.

Xenoblade 1 is a masterpiece, and soooo much better than the second, but i think you judge too much the second one comparing with the first. Xenoblade 2 is not the first, he not necesserally needs to upgrade the original, and do not try so much doing that, he just is his own thing in some ways. Some critics are pretty common, and i have the same problems as you in the beggining of the second game, cause the beggining is BAD. The battle system with just one or two people is BAD and drags the game down a lot. The first time i see that my character stop attacking when you move around i HATE IT, but with some good hours of gameplay i realize why. All your arts cooldown is linked to your attacking, and so you need to be still, but the most common heal option in the game are not just "healing" like most RPGs (including Xeno1), but the potions, that you need to get in the ground. The movement now is a good problematic, that helps strategy, will you move to a better spot to get more damage form a art? or stay and do more damage, prepare your other arts, etc. Will you go out and heal with that big potion, will cost you damage and cooldown, etc. The second game has A LOT of problems, it IS a super weabb game with lot of bad moments, like the first time you see poppi... BUT, specially in mechanics, its innovative from the first, and being serious, a think i even like slightly more the battle in the second. More variables, more strategies, etc. Well, Xenoblade 1 still a so much better game, but i think you judge so much the second that you don't see the good things in it. I CAN BE WRONG, after all, i don't know your true and complete opinion of that game, but specially in this video, i fill some free hate for the game. Btw, congrats for the video. Is sooo good, and i probably will show my friends trying to convince them to play the Definitive Edition, they are so scared of JRPGs, and i really needed some video to show how good this game is, without major spoilers. It is unfair to compare 2 completely different games. 2 is 90% different with maybe a few mechanics from 1 and the backstory to the entire game, other than that they have zero relation.

@@cypher838 i don't think it's unfair to compare the games, if you do it considering the 2 different universes and approaches. Like, you can compare a action and an puzzle game, if you are knowledgeable of how both used Game Design to do what they ARE SUPPOSED too. The problem I have with Xeno1 community is that they want Xeno2 to follow the same rules as the first ones, instead of analize their own rules for each game. As i said in the comment. I see a lot of critics to things like "Xeno2 doesn't use Future Visions like one does". And the only reason for it is that the main gimmick of Xeno2 is not future vision, but the blades, so this is why it focus on blades and not everything else. This is an exemple but OMG I see many and many invalid criticism against Xeno2 just cause it is not Xeno1.
