Great video! Back in the day I bartended my way through college. What are your thoughts on the FSR Aspen Lite RTT? I’m currently considering it, thanks!

@@barythompson4781 couldn’t recommend the Aspen Lite more. All the features of a premium hardshell with the lightweight profile is just unbeatable in the current market imo. Stay tuned for my next video as I may be able to save you guys some $$ shopping with Freespirit Recreation in the future 🙏🏻👀

I’ve been in my little offroad trailer for a couple years been full-time for over four. I made it through Oregon’s Arctic blast last year where we had seven day below 7° in my trailer. I just use wool blankets, down comforters, and I had a little 500W ceramic brick heater that has a thermostat so it kicks on and off. It seems to be the most logical thing for me because I can use my EcoFlow or onboard battery to power the heater and recharge it with solar. Unless I am avoiding bad weather they’re sitting in the trailer. I find that I really only need the heater to warm the trailer up to get in to go to bed and then to get out of bed in the morning.

Exactly how I operate! A bunch of blankets, layers of clothes and a small heater to heat up before bed and upon waking. Sure the diesel heater would help but it isn’t a “must” have.

Hell yeah man. We don’t get white that cold often here in north East Pennsylvania but regardless that’s awesome. I personally don’t prefer sleeping bags because I move around a lot at night but they’re definitely a good option for those frigid temps.

Is it safe to have a propane heater on overnight I assume the tint isn’t air tight
@570JawnWK2
@570JawnWK2 20 күн бұрын
It is not considered to be the best idea. With propane heat it’s imperative that you keep your space vented so that there’s no build up of carbon monoxide and plus it creates a good amount of condensation so I try to use it intermittently rather than on a continuous basis

You must not live at elevation like we do on Colorado. Diesel heaters are entirely unreliable at elevation. I have 1. It's worked the whole way through a night once. I don't trust it. We all have -25 degree bags. Those dont fail. It's always the people at low elevation that swear by diesel heaters and nobody above 5000 feet does
@RedRocket204
@RedRocket204 14 күн бұрын
@@seanwatson3790 DH are actually not entirely unreliable at elevation, the ones that rely on auto-adjusting based on a barometric sensor are typically the problem. I found that auto mode was complete crap and didn't work. Only once did I see the elevation change, from 0 to 1 meter and I live and tested that at 8000 feet (2400 meters) elevation. But it does take some research on how to manually adjust the fueling (Hz) and air speed (RPM) to get it set properly, assuming you have those manual adjustments available. I did have to purchase a new controller and mainboard to get those manual adjustments. Yes, I'm sure you'll say too much work to do all of that, it really isn't, but also, here in CO, you do need to reduce fueling on these or you will be running rich.
@seanwatson3790
@seanwatson3790 14 күн бұрын
@@RedRocket204 ya I am aware of that. For the h calory one I have I did check in as much as I knew how to do to see if I could manually adjust that mixture but everything we saw said we couldn't on our model. But you said about getting a new board or controller, but if I do that I lose Bluetooth I'd assume which was one of the main reasons I wanted the one I got. However I would be open to a KZbin link to someone that's replaced that stuff and had success. It does feel like work that isn't worth it considering my -25 bag and 0 degree 2 person bag never fail and we survived just fine with those before this experiment 🤷

@@seanwatson3790 ugg, frustrating... there have been two replies that have been removed, was trying to give you some non-YT links and apparently the entire comment gets removed. This YT channel has their own website, same name, where they have listed some good info about tuning DHs for altitude. It is what I used to tune my new controller/mainboard I purchased from overseas. Will post a follow-up with the channel.

Yeah let me just idle my vehicle for 8 hrs while I sleep and sacrifice all of my cargo space all so that I could avoid my 10 minute setup and breakdown. Makes sense.
@leveluplife8585
@leveluplife8585 20 күн бұрын
@ Ignorance is bliss. I did that for 2 years across the whole country and there’s no need to idle for 8 hours. Below freezing you might start the car 3 times if you cover/insulate the windows but I just got a heated blanket that heats up the whole cab on high and lasts the whole night. Remote start would also come in handy. Don’t knock it till you try it is all.

I completely agree, a good sleeping bag, a weighted blanket and an electric blanket and I’m good to go. Of course I have a full size suv so I have much more space than a mid size. Also if it’s really bad, just crack open a couple windows and turn on my buddy heater.

no diesel heater, but uses the worst heater for a tent... buddy heater... not to mention the fire risk in a rtt, but needing to vent half the heat out of your tent for potentioal CO poisoning, with no co monitor....... have fun trying to fold that tent up with frozen walls in colder temps.. and needing to change that 1lb bottle every 3hours or so... buddy heaters can be decent.. but only in certain circumstances..
@570JawnWK2
@570JawnWK2 19 күн бұрын
Little to no fire risk if used responsibly. I typically only run it right before bed to heat the tent, and right when I wake up. Automatic shutoff if knocked over and has a built in CO monitor that kicks automatically. I keep a window cracked and it’s fine for me, even in single digit temps like I camped here.
