After growing out my gray hair at 49, it wasn’t so much growing it out, but, the aftermath. Standing next to other women, or friends, who color their hair. I started to feel old. I had to train my brain not to think that. Not easy….. getting better though.😊

Very glad I loved my greys from the beginning. Started to get a few greys in my 30's, which gradually increased over time, I'm 48 now and never had to go through the process of growing dyed hair because I never started in the first place! I maybe put a bright semi-permanent colour once a year for fun over Summer, but that simply washes out in a few weeks. No growing out period ever for me. And I've experienced those negative comments about my grey hair from one Aunt in particular, but I would say to her 'Nup, l love my hair the way it is!' I could see the slightly annoyed, confused expression on her face and it only served to make me happier in my decision. 😂 My hair is still quite salt and pepper and I can't wait until it's all fully grey. People say they want to look their best, but I think define 'best'? What they think is best for them is not necessarily best for others. I've always said no matter what you do, there's always going to be someone that is negative about your decision so you might as well do whatever you what works for you. 🤷🏻♀️

I went through the entire transition cold turkey 2 years ago . When. It was long enough I got a pixie to speed up the process. I wore it for many months and I dyed it again. I don’t think I accepted myself with grey hair. Turns out the dyed hair isn’t doing me any favors but I guess I had to go through it to know now that I am fully committed and ready. I saw photos of myself that I took with full grey and it looked great but I just didn’t see it in myself. So I ditched the dye and I’m about a month in and very excited more than before.❤️ I know I already did it once and embracing the journey. I call it my halo instead of skunk stripe

Aw you just weren't ready the first time. I LOVE the halo!!! That is awesome!

Same. I was fully natural about a year ago and then folded and had it dyed. I think I wasn't ready and my hair wasn't as grey as I expected it to be. I still had lots of brown through my hair and I didn't like the colour that much. Funnily, a good friend of mine has a very similar natural colour to mine and I like it... I've decided to give it another go and am now 3 months into not colouring. So I'll see how I go. I just felt more honest when I wasn't dying it, even though I didn't love the colour.

I did the same thing. When I got my hair colored again I could tell it wasn’t healthy like my natural hair,so I’m starting over again because my natural hair ,the little that was showing was so much healthier looking.Im one month in just like you.Let’s do it this time💪

I am now 17 months in - cold turkey. Have only been tempted once. I do not give a rat's posterior about the opinions of other people - never have never will lol. I had to go from blonde back to my natural colour first. My hair grows really fast and it was below booby length - so every time the overdyed blonde ends get ratty I chop them off - about 5 inches chopped so far and hair still below the shoulders. I anticipate that by about February all the blonde overdyed will be gone! Cannot wait.

after 8 months i cut all the dye off couldnt stand the orange ends. 9 months now my hair grows fast. salt and pepper so true only negative have been my sister and brother and i couldnt care less about their hangups that is just what it is. my partner didnt care what the color he just doesnt like short hair he got over it.

Great help. Many thanks for this amazing insight. I'm due to have my hair coloured in February but I'm not going to. I've made the choice to grow out my colour and see what I have naturally. I'm excited with anticipation. This is it. X

I've been wanting to do this since 2020. Covid forced me to learned how to have 6 months of roots. 4 years later...my plan is to use toner/gloss to help ease the transition. I forgot that I am a grown ass woman and can decided how I want to do it. In the meantime, I have 12 lovely inches of bright pink and purple. I'm ready to lean into what I have instead of fighting against it.

You nailed it!!! That's exact where I'm at right now. I have a wedding coming up & not sure what to do so I look decent. But then next yr I have 1or even 2 weddings and then 2025 I have 1 wedding!!! AND job interviews in the next few months....😩

I get it. There's just never going to be a good time because something will ALWAYS come up! Check out my video on going gray in secret. It might help you get through! And by the way I interviewed and got a job with two toned hair so it can be done!

@@grayawhile Sweet about getting a job with 2 toned hair. I'll let you know if I get a job.... I decided I'm just going to leave my hair not do they dye strip or anything else. My daughter is cheering me on. She keeps saying for me to just embrace it!!!

how long did it take to get your grey hair that long? I am at almost at one yr from a pixie/shag. all the hair at that pt last Oct was all grey (under my old blonde) I do recommend this method. I waited about 8 months and then did a pixie - it looked fun and I loved it. its now to my shoulders and I really never considered ever going back to dying my hair since last yr. its very much a new me. for me I hated how toxic dye is, always disliked those chemicals. the next pt is because its so easy and natural, just wash and wear. if you do this grey journey, I would suggest finding fun lip colors and hairstyles to keep it interesting. my lipsticks look very different with silver tones around my face vs blonde hair and its really creative to discover new looks.

These are great points!! I never did the big haircut. I kept mine long the entire time and it was a struggle dealing with the orange for sure. My last dye was 02/09/2020 for reference and I just chipped away at it with trims. I envy the ladies who can pixie! Congratulations getting to shoulder level!

Thank you so much for this video, my last dye, was 9 juni, so i am in the stage that my hair looks weird. But my haircolor is not so dark since i bleach my hair before my last dye. But is brassy. But i will absolutely keep it up. I am ready to have my natural haircolor. I have family who support me and thinks the grey will look fantastic. They like the shade of my gray. So do i. And hope i will like it to end also.

If I was to do the whole transition again, I would cut my hair really short. It's fast and effective. But I was scared to cut my hair short, so , I didn't. I had a bob haircut during my transition.

It's so true. I think going gray AND going short take a certain kind of personality. I know I couldn't have done both but kudos to the ladies who do!
