I have some really bad memories from winter from when I was a kid, so it’s a mix of seasonal depression and some past issues. I try to take vitamins when I start to feel down and stay outdoors doing exercise as much as I can, and it’s working for me this year (with my mask on, of course).

Holy crap, it made me dislike winter so much, but now love it, since I make myself go outside in the sunrise to feed my birds, and just enjoy them. But yes, it seems like such a task to get up, but I think of my birds who really could use the extra nutrition in the cold of winter, so I get up for them. I help them, they help me! Who knew?

In my (totally uneducated) opinion, getting rid of daylight savings time would help a lot of people not feel depressed in the winter.

I think you mean getting rid of standard time, and I agree. I’ve always wondered and also found it frustrating and angering that daylight savings ends and the days get so short and bleak and lame and depressing for NO good reason. 100% if we were 365 DST less people would feel this depression.

I don't remember much from past how i felt but from past three years i can literally feel the moment when winter starts. I can see that sunlight is different. The night feels and look different. I also have PTSD And my symptoms usually get triggered during winter because during winter that traumatic events happened. Few weeks ago i woke and looked outside and felt like i was somewhere else The sunlight was different. The air feel differently It was like whole place ( world)was repaint and had new feeling to it. Every thing is different and i all happened suddenly. Everything changed in a night. Previous night it was different world and today it's different. And now just remember that somehow summer felt different but I can't explain it. And in summer I won't be able to explain winters. I don't remember emotions. I just know little facts or triggers.

I never had any kind of seasonal mood changes my entire life. But I lived in Florida, where the difference between the latest sunset and the earliest is about three hours. Then I moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where that difference is about 7-8 hours (this is on each end of the day as well -- 20 hours of daylight at the summer solstice, 7 hours at the winter solstice). I don't think I'd qualify for a full SAD diagnosis, but the difference in my mood that starts around November is noticeable in the few years I've lived here.

I wondered what if its not a hormonal thing, rather just the observation of nature dying, which we are a part of. Before we had nice warm homes, winter was alot harder. You had to eat more to keep you warm and your actions were limited due to the cold. Maybe that cycle is programmed in us and our mind memorieses the sad times of winter generations before us. In summer everything wakes up and comes to life, just like us.

One of my biggest mistakes was leaving Southern California and going to Oregon. The light therapy box isn't working as well as I hoped. Winters here are mostly gray, cold, and rainy with very few sunny and too-cold days. Spring is usually rainy and cool, too. So, summers are short and I dread the end of summer. :(

I'm currently experiencing this winter blues at the moment. It's not even winter - it's almost autumn. I remember my first onset happened when I was a primary school student in grade 4, attending my first 3 day camping trip with the rest of grade 4 students and teachers. I couldn't help, but cried throughout the camping trip. I think I was home-sick and wanted to go home because I missed my mother so much at that time. Fast forward to now, I still get this feeling on and off. It creeps into me, when the day gets cooler at night and the wind blowing through the leaves on trees....how does it feel like? Just imagine yourself walking alone in the Antarctic ice in the middle of the dark grey night with strong wind blowing at you. Perhaps its a hidden signal telling me something about life. Life didn't turn out well for me. But I've got no choice but to keep on trying and moving forward. I need to remind myself that this feeling - whatever it is, will eventually go away.

Thank you for the simple and nice video. I have two comments; from my work experience, when people have depression or sadness they prefer to be silent or speak their mother language. When you began your video with French I thought it's your mother language however you said that you learned it when you were in 3rd grade. Also, there are degrees of depression which required different therapeutic interaction. Your channel is fabulous, happy to found it. Thanks!

Nice French, I'm not a native speaker I just speak a little (and don't spend nearly as much time in France as I'd like to). I don't really suffer from S.A.D. sure a little bit of mood dips compared to summer, but that was significantly worse when I worked predominantly night shifts, which was less seasonal. It's easier to endure with uplifting people, too, and my second cousin twice removed is hilarious and I regret not being able to share the holidays with them

You European and American people really have to visit Iran and see how bored we are of sun and sunshine and sunny days, it rarely rains in here and we it does, people are creazy to go out and walk under the rain which also doesn't last very long. Seriously it always annoys how much rain and snow u guys get and how much ur sick of it. When we wake up in the morning and see the sky is cloudy and glummy we are like: "oooohhhh finally a day without the goddamn sunshine" lol

I’ve been out of work for a while. Been worried about money. Have taken a job that is shaky at best. Been laying around more the usual. Feel tired when I shouldn’t be and sleepless at night sometimes. Just sadness and anxiety. Been feeling this depressive mood more since my mom moved in with me but there could be more to it then that. Have lost interest in a few creative hobbies that I usually do. Feeling lonely and wanting. I take it one day at a time. God is with me and he has a plan. He should be there for you too. Keep going.🙂

@@neurotransmissions Well, it mainly comes from the fact that I spend summer in a place (ironically by the beach in spain) where I don't know/like many people and there's also not much to do so I end up being alone and angry. I used to enjoy it as a kid but a lot of drama happened as a teenager there which I'm always reminded of and can't escape those reminders. Now during university and post studies summer has only served to put me in a powerless position where I am simply waiting to come back to work and also with the pressure of finding a career from my family (studied art history) this, coupled with bad memories from the place makes it so that I end up feeling depressed and not being able to escape the cycle until summer is over and I can leave to get back to doing. Realizing the patterns helped me push out of it, but t I just despise that time of the year and its implications. I think it has a lot to do with that specific place and my memories but I still never look forward to summer as I just see it as a period of stagnation, not growth in my life.

I actually have the opposite. Every it, that or what is given recognition and rights. However, I don't exist. I hate the sun. Hate it. I wish for a nuclear winter. Or just to afford to live in Alaska. Yes, I unfortunately live somewhere overly sunny. Its hot and bright. I do stay up at night. Pandemic put an end to Walmart night trips, my only source of outside communication. Therapist chalks it up to not wanting to be around people. The climate or whatever excuse fits their narrative. Just because everyone else likes to function during the daytime, it somehow absolves my preference. I hate the Sun. It effects my life, mostly eternally. I have no control over my life, I am at the mercy, convenience, and privilege of everyone else.
