Hey, this was an awesome video. What do you suggest for CV’s for a first year student with essentially no financial WEX? My WEX with Lloyds unfortunately got cancelled because of covid, and I’m worried that it’ll be near impossible to fill my CV with relevant things for a spring week application. I do have plenty of things to write about that aren’t directly finance related (e.g. I tutor, I freelance, going to a great UK target uni etc.)

Hey Karan, thanks for the kind words! I'd recommend trying to apply for some start-ups; there are websites like Angel List where companies are always looking for interns. Also getting some sort of position in a finance based uni society would also be something I'd recommend looking at - even if you can't get direct work experience, showing that you have an interest in the finance industry and are producing content/researching the industry would be good.

Adding to this, you could mention the other non directly finance related things, but ideally they'd be a more minor part of both your CV/Cover Letter. You'd need to think about how exactly those positions tie into the finance job you're aspiring for (e.g. your time freelancing further enhanced your abilities to meet tight deadlines while producing high quality work, which are highly desirable characteristics in high intensity professions such as investment banking.) R.E University, you obviously want to have the uni and course in your CV, but wouldn't really recommend featuring it that much in your Cover Letter - after all there are loads of people at the same university, you need something that's more personal to you.

Really helpful video, thank you!! Are a-level grades considered strongly as part of the application process for spring weeks?

Hey! Glad you found the video useful! I really can't be too sure about how much A-Levels in particular are weighted (since I don't work in recruitment) but I do get the impression that banks look at your academic record. Since as a first year you only have your A-Levels and GCSEs to use, I would imagine they would rely on those grades to a considerable degree.
