@@AustinPierce7526 we all like what we like. No argument there. But for me I could never go back to a tele again bcuz my CS strat with 1/2 blender greasebucket II (sort of similar to the AP2 strats 7 way gilmour wiring but with the addition of treble bleed and the tone 2 being a blender) does the tele thing better than a tele but it’s a strat. For me a strat with that kind of setup always walks over a tele bcuz the strat is much more of a form fitting comfortable shape, and when a trem strat does the tele thing wiring wise it’ll always sound better to me due to the springs being part of the tone. That strat springy snap and the lightweight ergonomics are just too much for a tele to compete with. That being said Teles are the OG electric- and if that plays a part of why somebody wants one- I totally get that. Just for me objectively I can’t play teles after playing AP2 strats and my custom shop pomo strat. But i’d take an AP2 tele over a player strat. But the AP2 strat just does more and does it more comfortably. The AP2 teles are still nice quality american made instruments tho. Congrats. Give a CS Pomo or AP2 strat a try tho if u can

The best Strat I ever owned was a Hamer Chaparral Custom. Currently, I have a Fender Stratocaster and a Gibson Les Paul. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Les Paul. The Les Paul was perfect from the day I grabbed it off the rack. The Stratocaster has always had tuning issues. The best Fender I ever played was a 1967 Telecaster.

@MarkTurner-vs7uc At first, my Les Paul had tuning issues. Then I did the over the top tailpiece wrap, and I started using the luthier knot. Haven't had any problems since. The Stratocaster has tuning issues because of the Fender tremolo bridge and a defective roller nut.

The Reverb list is derived from sales on their site which can include second hand as well as new guitars. The top guitar can be the most popular or the most flipped ie the one which generates the most buyer's remorse.

I'm just now perusing a list of top selling guitars from Reverb for 2022, and they have the Silver Sky in first place, but second place is the Squier Classic Vibe Baritone Custom Telecaster, and third place is the Fender Player Plus Meteora HH. I might believe that the Silver Sky was a popular guitar, but I think that the other two guitars on the top of the list imply that it is extremely unlikely that the Reverb list can be considered as representative of the industry as a whole. Do we really believe that the Meteora is Fender's best selling model?

For my first "real" guitar I got a Jackson JS22 DKA because it was aforable to me and had all the things I needed to learn like a netraul tone, duel humbuckers, only 2 knobs and a 3 way switch and honestly most importantly comfey in a way Strats just aren't to me(Maybe because I play a right handed guitar left handed.)... Which my personal music hero is Frank Klepacki like he is everything I want to be as a musician... and his custom guitar from a brand that died 20 years ago has 1 knob and like 5 humbuckers so I wanted to find a guitar like that and kinda did and I couldn't be happier.EDit make that just 2 humbuckers I just checked but it was 1 knob, 1 switch and a wicked body from a brand I still can't ID. But My Jackson having 2 humbuckers and 2 knobs is really close and I love it a great starting guitar!

I started playing again during the pandemic, after a twenty year hiatus. I began by trying to play my old Washburn KC40V (an early Nineties "Super Strat") and Fender M80 transistor amp, but the electronics had all gone wrong. I was earning quite a bit of cash from freelancing, so I bought myself a Les Paul Studio and a Blackstar HT20-R valve amp. And I love the Les Paul. Unlike the Washburn, which was S-S-H but with no real character, the LP opened me up to a wild world of tonal possibilities accessible with just the on-board electronics. But a while later, I decided I wanted to try that other anchor of the electric guitar world, the Strat, so bought myself a lovely American Performer Strat in Satin Lake Placid Blue. And I adore this guitar. It's beautifully easy to play, and has all of that Strat character and flexibility, while looking drop-dead gorgeous. Don't get me wrong, my LP is awesome, and I love it to bits. But my Strat is on another level. About the only thing I don't like is the vintage-style 6-screw bridge, as it's open and quite uncomfortable for palm muting. But yep, I don't think I'll ever willingly let my Strat go.

G&Ls are the best. I recently bought my 5th - coincidentally a sonic blue S-500 Fullerton Custom Shop (second hand) and I instantly fell in love. Mine's an SSS model, and while I don't love strat bridge pickups either, the MFDs seem to have a thicker sound that I like. I started on S-style guitars (a MIM strat was my first decent guitar) and went through various phases since - particularly Teles and Jazzmasters - and did not own an S-style for many years until getting the S-500. It felt like coming home, and instantly became my #1, and always the first one I reach for these days.

A guitar is not a piece of the narrative; it's a tool. Whether Strats are iconic or not, the only thing that matters about a guitar is how they sound, whether that sound appeals to you, and if you can bond with it as an instrument. The type of guitar I've had the most over the past 19 years is strat style guitars. As a left handed player, strat style guitars are probably the easiest to come by. Since I've played them the most, now I just kinda prefer them, and all of the guitars I currently play are strat-esque. I do also finally have a Fender MIM strat, and it's great, but I modified it to be like the Tom Delonge Strat. I don't have any guitars with the SSS configuration, just H, HH, or HS. Some of the guitars I have (or had) are Fender Teles, Mustangs, Duo Sonics, Gibson ES-335s, SGs, Les Pauls, Guild Aristocrat, Yamaha Revstar and even at one point a strat! But, part of the enjoyment (for me) of playing and owning guitars is the looks of the guitar. Unfortunately the strat was the beginning of the exaggerated upper and lower "horn" design that I dislike and that has been taken to the extreme by guitars like a lot of Ibanez, B.C. Rich, Solor, ESP, Jackson, Schecter, Carvin/Kiesel, Steinberger, Polar, Abasi and even some PRS models! I wanted to like the strat I had but never could get over the looks, controls layout and the non-standard 25.5" scale length! Yes, I know teles are the same 25.5" scale length, but mine has been converted to standard scale length (24.75") and a humbucker in the neck position. So no more strats for me!

Of course I can't claim that idea as mine as maybe some other engineer also developed it. I just know I suggested it. I don't like the fancy electronics on it. I would have rather just had straight ahead 5 way switch with a coil tap to split the bridge. As far as the neck..It's a bit wide for me, as in string spacing. I think the 335 is the most versatile guitar made but I only use 2 of the switch positions on a strat (the neck and the middle), I use all the positions on the tele and 335. A good neck pickup on a strat is one of the most beautiful tones out there. Slightly off topic, but this video made me think it's funny how people expect the guitar to evolve to something else/better/different... when we don't have the same expectations on pianos, violins etc... It's still a relatively new instrument compared to others. So it's not really a surprise to find it saying the same for only 50 years... and having certain versions of the guitar really being the standout ones, when the main basis for the instrument stays the same. When something works, just play it :)

Cheap stuff you could get for $100. There really wasnt any decent Fender style copies in those days. My college roommate had an Electra Tele copy but those were very rare. Then after obtaining decent employment after college I got a Martin and went purely acoustic for 10-15 yrs. Then after becoming and old guy with disposable income I went back to electric and tried a lot of things including various Teles and Strats. I love my part caster Teles but Ive never had a Strat style guitar that I stuck with. Strats have a lot of good qualities, very comfy and ergonomic, some otherwise unobtainable iconic tones, but Im just not really a whammy bar guy, and the Strat trem system to me is the most Rube Goldberg of all types. But it contributes to the Strat sound. I want to like them but I never seem to bond. Right now my main guitars are my trusty partscaster Tele, a Gretsch White Falcon for my hollowbody, and my Gibson SG Standard is the one I play the most.

Any thoughts on the Player Series Strat? I wanna pick up a Strat and obviously Player Series is the cheaper way to get one, but is it worth the extra ~1k to pick up one of the other models?

Strat is comfortable, easy to play and repair. They have a wide range of tones and are relatively affordable. What more does one need?

I just got a kramer baretta special and I play it more that my high end other guitars lol I used to be a les paul es 335 guy until I got a G&L legacy, and my kramer is the best mix of my epiphone/fenderish love in one ^^;;;; ps I know it's a trash guitar, but hell I love it.

Quite a coincidence; I am currently thinking to swap Strat to Rickenbacker 360 or Telecaster. Nice guitar, but rarely playing it. Mostly playing Jaguars, then Telecaster 1972 thinline and Les Paul Standard.

For what I play, nothing can even come close to touching the versatility of an HSS Strat. Nothing I’ve played has managed to feel more comfortable or effortless. So… that’s exactly what I have, and really all I need.

I'm stuck with the Sttats I have, they're a dime a dozen all over the place. When I went looking for a 1st guitar. LP P90 was the clear winner for tone & sound. It has the growl where a Tele wouldn't go. Turning the knobs it could do everything the Tele single coils were going to do for Twang & cleaner channel play. The LP is a hardail single Lightning bar wrapover. Way to simple for intonation aspect of a set up. The ends have a total of 4 adjustment screws. Still I wanted the Strat with 3 singles. I stumbled across a Bullet HT that's really a Robert Cray with chrome silver hardware. It's obviously a hardtail & for a beginner that's going to eliminate the distraction of the whammy bar. still I wanted a strat with a whammy bar, fear of missing out. Both those strats were listing after listing or preowned marketplace. I could leverage the flood of them & get one I wanted for lower pricing. Granted they are Squier Strats. And I did get a 1st Tele. I just reach for whatever I'm in the mood for really. They are different enough to have one of each, Tuning them, different gauge strings. Gotta have more than one type of guitar. These days I find myself longing for an Airline, or something unique for body shape. Also something that has a style of it's own The Airline is going to be a '59 2P/3P or a Jetson 2P. The other I'm still on the fence are the Gretsch, Deusenberg, Rickenbacker or Dan Electro. That covers a lot of territory, a lot of it is overlap with a Les Paul. Probably less likely to jump the fence for one of these. The Gretsch would be a G6199 BBJT or an Electromatic. If I go semi-hollow or hollow, I prefer the Billy Duffy White Falcon. I really think the Airline is going to actually be the next one though.

It’s a fantastic example of a Strat. Really well made, which is why I know that it’s Strats as a category I don’t like - rather than the specific one I had (I’ve owned three others in the past, years ago). They feel great to hold, but I don’t like the pickups/sound and don’t particularly like how they look. In the Fender world, I much prefer a Tele, Jag, or JM. But if someone wanted a Strat I’d recommend the AmPro-II.

I just havent found a Strat I vibed with. I been trying too. I found one many years ago for $200. It was a MIM Fender Standard Strat that i actually liked. I went back the next day to buy it but it was gone. But that was just one Strat out of many i have tried and they just dont feel like that MIM one that day. And i tried everything from Squier to Custom Shop and just have not found one i liked. On the flip side, most Teles I have tried, i liked.

I really hate the look of Strats but, despite that, until this year I've only owned one guitar - an '82 Tokai Strat. I've had it since 1988. This year I bought a Tele and I'm proud of my guitar for the first time ever! I won't sell the Strat though - it's been with me too long. Plus, whoever works on it loves it and offers to buy it off me!

The reason I like the strat..especially the HSS design..It's so versatile. If you use the whammy bar like I play around with, the straight string alignment to the tuners, LSR roller nut, locking tuners, beveled holes in the bridge plate, no string tree= less friction! I bought the 2012 American Strat Deluxe..years ago. I had written to Fender previously about the bridge plate design..I got THAT strat..and they had beveled the bridge plate string pass-through holes! I did put Graph tech saddles on it..and I don't break strings even with a floating bridge set-up! I'll never sell that guitar! Might gift it to someone..but that one is a keeper!

I sold my $3600 AUD USA Strat and kept my 40th Anniversary Squier Strat. Obviously the USA is better but you'd be surprised as to how much better, especially considering the price tag which absolutely doesn't justify it. Love my Squier strat. Looks and plays absolutely killer.

Trust me, it just never gets better! At 65, I basically have one of every common style guitar (no pointy ones! 😂) including a Strat, a Tele, an LP, a 335, a PRS…regular, 12-string and parlor acoustics…and a mandolin! I’m okay on most but a master of none. But each has their own personality and I love them all! Variety is the spice of life! But I don’t gamble, drink excessively or run with scissors so my guitar habit probably won’t kill me! 🤡

@@TheSamMabe That’s a tough one! 😂 I love them all but if you’re forcing me to make a choice then I can narrow it down to three…for when I just have a few minutes to pick then it would be my PRS parlor guitar…for deep acoustic, it’s my 25 year-old Taylor 414 that is sweet as honey…for rocking it would be my Fender Player Series Strat with a Seymour Duncan JB Jr. in the bridge position for a humbucker sound. That said, I have an Ibanez Artcore 335-style semi-hollow that I had set-up perfectly and a bone nut added that is a killer and all my friends want to play! All my guitars are different but having played since I was ten, the mix has always kept me interested no matter what style I’m feeling that day! 🤪. Lastly, except for my 12-string, all of my guitars were purchased used so I’m kind of the shelter for unloved or neglected axes! 🤡
