You know what is unfortunate, I said the same thing those men said when the rumor was floating around that she was pregnant. Then, I saw her reveal her pregnancy on SNL and I “boohoo cried” because I realized that I had internalized society’s standards of success and pregnancy. Cardi b is a testament that not only does a woman have a right to celebrate her pregnancy but also to celebrate her sexuality throughout her pregnancy. She is still just “gutta” and raw. Ughhh!!! I just adore her. Great video!!!!

I did that too when I was pregnant with my third child I worked hard as if I wasn't pregnant and ending up passing out and putting me and my baby at risk . All because of being scared of position/job being taken away from me . I was in denial and definitely regret it . Thanks Melanie ❤ bringing light to our dark .

I went on a job interview 8 months pregnant, referred by a friend and didn't hide it. In fact it was said that I could start after my leave. However, every other person my friend referred was hired except me. I know I met or exceeded qualifications and performed well during the interview. Oh well, their loss. God blessed me with another job still better than my previous one. Screw anyone who puts limitations on us.

This is so real and so DEEP! I have a very close friend who is pregnant and she is still trying to hide her pregnancy from her supervisors because she's scared that they won't give her a promotion because of it. It's ridiculous!!

Yes!!!! Three times!!! Say it again for the people in the back roll! I went through a very similar situation! You’re videos have gotten me through the different transitions from becoming pregnant to now having 2 yr old. With the amount of shame and pressure that we as woman place on ourselves and other women to live standards that white men enforced we know this world was never meant for us so we have to work 10times harder to get people to realize our perspective. But it’s changing the more we are strong willed, brave and confident enough to stand in our truth we force our selves to have a seat at the “boys” table and make them listen and change their views.

I was at a scholarship award luncheon my senior year in college and one of the female donors told me as she was “wishing me well” to make sure that I didn’t get pregnant because it would distract me. I was already 8 weeks pregnant at the time and that comment completely annoyed me. I did however take her check and continue on with my degree with pride :)

Thank you!!!! 🙌 I'm 9 weeks pregnant, 32 years old, never been pregnant before. My child's father thinks that because I'm unmarried and we aren't in a relationship that I should hang my head low. I refuse 2 be ashamed! I'm holding my head up high and preparing to be the best mother possible. Thank you for saying this!!!! It's like you read my mind.

I have to agree with this. I am 30 years old(still consider myself young). I have no children of my own but I share these thoughts and concerns when it comes to becoming a mother and the stigma attached. I very much want to be a mother but it's not necessarily the right time, whether society has decided that I shouldn't or others are saying that I'll be "too old" once I'm ready. It's a difficult balance and unfortunately society seems to associate motherhood with weakness which is far from the truth. I was raised by amazing women and I think motherhood is a necessity that needs to be embraced, if that is your choice. It's all about our own choices and paths. I think as a society we forget and in this political climate I say we can't afford to forget. We must embrace all that motherhood means. Be proud women for whatever you choose and don't let anyone take away your right to choose.

I agree with most of what you said. However in the music/movie industry a pregnancy can be career suicide and your male employees are the prime example of why this is so. The music/movie industry should be a business about talent, but it's not based solely on talent, but body image and looks. In our society pregnant women are not considered marketable to mainly men who fantasize about female artist. Should it be that way, No. But until women stop excepting this mentality from men, then it will continue. And it has to be women who change this mentality.

What’s so crazy is that I’ve only heard and read women say that’s career suicide. They’re saying she shouldn’t be dancing or saying certain lyrics now that she’s about to be a mom. Or she shouldn’t be going on tour, doing shows. When my cousin got pregnant, her mom told her the same thing. You can’t finish school with two kids on the way. Unfortunately, even the men you heard gather this from what the working industry has done to women, especially in entertainment, historically-forced abortions, lying about having children, etc. Something has to give.

Absolutely! We as women have enough working against us.... the last thing we need is for US to work against us! thank you for your comment. xo
