My boyfriend likes Disney, but is not a huge Disney fan unlike me! I can't wait to go on a second Disney cruise next year! So excited!

We did the Dream in February with a family member who needed a mobility scooter. It is difficult but doable. Our best tip is be prepared to be 45 minutes early or 15 minutes late for dinner - the elevator wait is no joke. Serious tip - if you need to go down in a wheelchair / scooter for dinner, press the button for an UP elevator. The car will be empty traveling up, you can get on, and then ride the elevator up and back down again. Without this tip, be prepared to wait an extra 10-20 minutes.

I just got off a Disney cruise and I did not find it as relaxing as I expected. I have young kids and with limited character meeting times (even though there are a lot of them) and restricted times to get food, I felt like I had to keep an eye on the clock. My husband disliked hearing everyone else dealing with their kids (on top of us having to deal with our own cranky kids). There really being no escape from that since you can still hear others back in your stateroom through the doors to the hall and next door. I think for my family a Walt Disney World visit is a better choice.

We went on the Wish in January. The only time we ran into lines was at Arendelle (because people lined up 10-15 minutes before the doors opened) and trying to get an elevator to get off the ship the last morning. We always found a table at Marceline Market and there was only a 5 minute wait for the AquaMouse when we went on it. We tend to go at off times and there isn't much of a wait when you do that.

We love DCL, but we don't care for meeting and greeting. I actually liked it during precautions because while I know it was unpopular for most people who want their hugs, I could walk up and get a picture any time I wanted of the characters without waiting in line or getting a random stranger in my picture. Characters are a major part of all DCL cruises especially themed day a sea cruses so you can skip them, but if you really hate them, they could be a deal braker. I also miss the virtual Muster drill. That was one of the worst parts of my last cruise. I am not closterphobic, but I don't love strangers in my personal space. I can see how this could be a deal braker if you have space issues.

Thanks for sharing. I totally agree, the virtual muster drill was so nice!

As an Australian booking for the first time, the gratuities are frustrating when a) it's not a done thing here and b) we're already paying more than a similar cruise in the US. For example a 4 night cruise for my family of 3 in a standard inside stateroom is around $US500-600 more than similar cruises in the states.
@llxxblondiexxll Жыл бұрын
Agree! And it gets worse. Did you know that once on the cruise, they near end of the cruise leave an envelope on your bed with letter, implying that guests should tip MORE by adding cash to the envelope?! So you pre pay tips for housekeeping and waiters, pay 18% surcharge at bars, then also get guilted into paying additional tips in a paper envelope to the same people (housekeeping etc) you already prepaid tips for. All because the cruise line pays such low wages.
@stonecutter74 Жыл бұрын
@@llxxblondiexxll I won't be putting any money in the envelope I prepaid my tips that's it. I pay way too much for this cruise. I do not care that Disney pay low wages it's not my problem. Disney should share more with there staff . End of story
@mindyschocolate Жыл бұрын
@@llxxblondiexxll I don’t include extra in the envelopes. I just include the stubs that are automatic. I do write notes of thanks in them. You are not required to tip even more. The beauty about the envelopes is they won’t treat you any different because you’ll be gone before they open them. Maybe it’s an American thing to tip, idk, but the servers and room hosts are international and the ships are also registered in the Bahamas.

If you can’t afford to tip the people who work their butts off for you, then don’t sail Disney. If you CAN afford it and just don’t want to, well, that says a lot about you.
@AGRSSV1 Жыл бұрын
@@anissasiobhan maybe Disney should pay workers a better rate so they don’t require tips, you know, like every western country outside of the US. Disney are already charging Australians a premium above the US prices so maybe they can share that as bonuses to staff.

Nearly EVERY cruise line has mandatory gratuities. Perhaps you've mostly sailed on the very high end lines? On Viking, as an example, daily gratuities aren't a thing -- however, that's because they factor that into the fare. Now, we've had a couple of cruises where the "package" included gratuities --- which was great, it meant we didn't have to think about it --- but, we still paid.

I'm dreading cruising with Disney. So much money, activities all booked up by the first morning reservations were open, and no casino. Sucks.

We’ve been on 9 or 10 Disney cruises , we’ve not had a bad experience… next we plan on doing the Wish. I find it amusing that people complain about the size of the pools…. Do they want an Olympic pool ? Would I try another cruise line… I don’t think so, was told a long time ago that if we tried another cruise line , after Disney we’d be very disappointed.
@Emily_070 Жыл бұрын
I've sailed on carnival and royal caribbean. Carnival is great if you want to save money and don't mind a disaster at sea. Royal caribbean was fun, but I didn't leave excited to go again. That said, their beach at their private island was perfection in the fall! Disney is a lot more but worth it to us.
@uspsdaveable Жыл бұрын
@@Emily_070 on my second Disney cruise, someone asked us if we had sailed on any other cruise lines..we said no…. They told us don’t you’ll just be disappointed after a Disney. I’ll stick to that advice.

One of my best friends has sailed most of the other cruise lines. He & his wife take 2 Disney cruises each year & says Disney is the best. He said we would be disappointed on another cruise line after cruising Disney. They’ll never try another cruise line again.

I sail RCCL if it’s just me wanting a less expensive getaway. For Capital “V”Vacations, we definitely spring for Disney.

YES!!! I drank less on RCCL because their “drinks of the day” were maybe a buck cheaper than normal drinks? The $5ish dollar cocktail of the day on Disney was awesome. I’d have one or two by the pool, and be good to go.

5:22 - “these are mandatory gratuities…they will say that they are optional… they will also bill them to your room if you did not prepay…” So - Disney which is it?! Mandatory or optional? How can Disney claim that the pre payable tips are “optional” tips, if they later bill you for them anyway when you do not prepay? This is sneaky of Disney to refer at all to the word “optional” given the circumstances. If it uses a mandatory tips process, fine. But Disney should NOT mislead consumers.
@mindyschocolate Жыл бұрын
You can go to the guest services and ask to not have tips on your room bill (an option if you’d rather do cash). Once you get the automatic gratuities off, you can just not put any cash in and there you go. You just got off without leaving anything. I wish they’d make more money, but I can’t imagine being so callous as to not leave them anything for such excellent customer service.
@anissasiobhan Жыл бұрын
You can absolutely opt out, if you’re that kind of person. Nothing mandatory about it.

Here’s the problem with the food. It looks great but nothing had any flavor. Deserts included. I also thought there was food out 24 hours. No. If we didn’t get down to breakfast that was it. The kids didn’t want to sit in the dinning room & I don’t even remember where lunch was. That stop at Island Key was like a bad day at the Jersey shore. Hated all the add ons. Rooms were great though.

Omg...I just went on the Dream. The desserts to me were fantastic but the main meals were inconsistent...enjoyed the apps but the mains seemed to decline as the voyage went on. So if you had bland food throughout, I don't blame you if that's your opinion.😊
