The most hilarious part is watching them ride as if it's almost freezing... and then at 8:32... with 64F / 18C it's short bib and short jersey here in the Netherlands 😂

Lol I would give anything to ride in 64. That's warm enough for shorts and racing jerseys for my test. Goes to show how much 'adjustment' the human body can handle

This made me smile too. I would have guessed it was in the 30s based on their layers. Neck warmer at 64!

Ha! I had the opposite issue with my first bike where my saddle was considerably too low, causing knee pain. Great video as always.

Adding EJ to the mix in terms of editing and storytelling is the best decision you made in the evolution of your channel, Jeff. So excited for this season and thanks for the amazing content. 🫡

Love that feeling when the bike is dialed in just right. Makes it way more fun to ride. Say good bye to bad pain and hello to good pain (FTP test).

Excellent video. I was riding around with my saddle way too high to begin with 🦒. Then I set it ridiculously low and raised it in 2mm increments until it felt comfortable. Just seeing people riding around casually, most people have their saddle way too high!

This is such a critical thing I that I think your beginner cyclist overlooks. As a “noob” several years ago I got a bike and did not do a fitting, on my next bike I did a fitting and they did all the steps listed here and afterwards the bike truly felt like an extension of my legs. The pains I had stopped, the power I was able to transfer was very noticeable and it left me feeling like I had been missing out. This is something that I did on my new upgraded ride and will continue to do in the future because of its noticeable improvement in my performance.

64F in long sleeves and tights? I would burn up. I am in shorts and short sleeves at that temp. It barely broke freezing this weekend where I am at. I will gladly trade winter weather.

Definitely not the weather for long sleeves and tights lol. I'm out here in Livermore, 1 hour away from Jeff and we were just out last week riding in short sleeves and shorts at 41 degrees. Anything above 45 degrees in long sleeves/pants is bonkers. Maybe some sleeves to rip off mid ride, maybe...

Watching you guys bump shoulders on the road footage made me think that doing some bump drills might be a good exercise for EJ, and for Couch To Crit viewers to see. Getting jostled in a crit can be terrifying for new crit racers, and I know practicing bump drills with friends definitely helped me get used to incidental contact.

One thing to discuss prior to a professional bike fit just so there's no misunderstanding is who owns final fitting data, and do you get a print out or final report with recommendations from fitter. I went to a well respected fitter who did a great job, but he kept the data, as he felt he'd been burned by people getting fits and then buying bikes from Canyon or others. I guess the good side of this is if your bike is stolen or crashed and you pick up a new one from him, it will be perfectly set up. I had to carefully measure bike and shoes fitting done on so I could replicate on other bikes (not all my bikes have same seat angle, rise, etc.) Just something to be aware of and clarify before putting you money down.

I was fortunate enough to get Jack’s RETUL fit and I wholeheartedly recommend it. I have had a pretty bad knee pain back then but the fit fixed it almost completely. In process Jack managed to sell me new pair of shoes and bunch of new components though 💸
@pl4free

that's what all bike-fitters do, that I've ever known of. The bike-fitting is not their end-goal, their end-goal is to sell you saddles, shoes and shoe-inserts.

Nonsense. A well fitted bike is one you'll keep much longer, with which you will ride further and that will not cost you extra medical bills, nor unnecessary upgrades in delusional hopes to get faster. (Some would work a little but none would get you anywhere near as fast as what you could get on a properly fitted bike)
@pl4free
@pl4free Жыл бұрын
People can well-fit a bike themselves, no problem whatsoever. Just remember this: (1) Listen to your body and yourself, you're not an idiot. One would have to be quite ignorant of one's own experiences to ride oneself into "medical bills" (2) beind in the ball-park is enough. Everything above that is bike-fitter fidgeting that will get you much less than just improving your flexibility on your own. (3) fundamentals! bike-fitting fundamentals are easy to understand and to apply. People have been riding bikes no problem whatsoever long before bike-fitters appeared on the scene, why should you be any different... (4) stop buying into the marketing of the bike-industry. You obviously won't have a good time if you're a 10-hour desk-sitter and expect to be able to ride an aggressive race bike without any flexibility training on your part or just time on the bike. So if you go from desk-sitter to some cool, aggressive aero-bike just because MvdP rides it or something like that, then you've been had by the bike industry. In which case see (1) and the "you're not an idiot" part.

Wide bars help with leverage for sprints, he might've preferred it if he's gonna be doing crits. He also may not have needed the shorter reach from narrower bars

@@ProWeAreSo I've found narrower bars help me with sprint power. They are also more comfortable and aero. This is what I have found to work for me, i guess it depends from rider to rider. Maybe something for people to test, although it can be quite expensive.

@@francoishofmeyr2123 yeah for me, I've found my sprint power is the same, but I don't have the same control when I'm throwing my bike side to side. I went from stock 44s on my bike to 38s last year and it still is weird

Absolutely critical to get a bike fit BEFORE buying, or even thinking about buying another bike!!!!!!!!!!!!! Critical to understand what geometry (stack/reach) your body is best suited to. It should dictate what bike brand/model is really best for you 👍

You should make a video on clothing comparison, like casual cotton t shirt vs cheap $10 shirt on amazon vs high end one vs shirtless lol. Would be nice to see the data numbers on how much better one is over the others.
