Why You Must Learn to Say No

To live out the purpose of your current season of life, you have to recognize what's fruitful for this season, and what's not for this season. Even with good opportunities, sometimes you have to simply say, NO.

This is so true! During the election season, at a time when I had two part-time jobs, a woman (biology teacher) asked me to give private lessons to her student. Honestly, this woman was such an approachable and pleasant one that it was difficult for me to say no & I volunteered. A time came when she and the student were expecting me to come to one morning to have that class with her and I was so tired physically & emotionally, even though I was at my workplace, that I didn't even bother to call to ask her should push down the time in our schedule because I'd be late. She called me that morning and was *furious*. She said that I inconvenienced her and that student and I felt really bad about it. I then wanted to have a make up class with her without charging her but the woman said no. She also criticized me for behaving in a manner she perceived to be unprofessional, I told her I'd be on the way and then she said no it was fine. I had never known how it would've affected her and she doubted I would be reliable and cancelled the classes. Had I said no, we all would've had a long-lasting & enjoyable relationship.

I am my neighbor's first "go to" person. Everyday, and throughout the day, it's like I'm on call for her and her family. Usually, I do it because I can, but I was in the middle of my Bible study today - and, sure enough, the phone rings! Guess who? I had all I could do to keep from answering it. But I said No! God is more important! and learned that I need to say NO more often. Thanks for the great study, Kim! xo

Oh my, yes....boundaries are in order. People call (or text) at times that are good for them, and somehow we think we need to be available at that same time. I've had to learn as well that it's okay to wait to respond at a time that's good for me. I also silence my phone and put it away during Bible study because too many tempting distractions. :) xo

Yes ma’am I use to run run run around the holidays singing in choir, praise team , work , family wow. I ran soo much I began to question if what I was doing if it was for church or God and it was church because I wasn’t spending time with God.Help Lord. I had attempted to get off Praise team so many times because I wasn’t fruitful in God and if not fruitful in God you sure can’t praise and worship Fruitful. Your Worship should always be sweet to him. This quarantine has actually helped me sit back and reflect.

Wow I use to try and do so much and wonder why I didn’t do well at it wow was doing too much without God. You can hear this over and over about spending time with God but just keep moving right along thinking a devotional a day will keep the devil away NOT!!!!! I've been bullied by my family since a child I got molested by my cousin and got in trouble for telling the social worker I was outcasted...I cried so much as a child so much...My aunt tormented me and kicks me out everytime he would come over and family trips and they all bullied me that I couldn't go for what I did.. He kept molesting my cousins.. Now older Even at my moms funeral.. And uncles they bullied me whenever my aunt who raised me is in the hospital she kicks me out if he comes and I gave her flowers recently and gave her Bible verses for salvation... It hurts so much I get flashbacks... My sister says stop feeling sorry for myself but I told her no I am not going to keep putting myself in the same situation... They think I'm bitter can't forgive it's just I'm falling apart... I told her no I'm moving on I forgive but I will always have grief and reason why it hurts so much when my aunt scolded me and yelled was that she was like a mother to me... I bore the shame as a child for coming out with what he did to me... Enough is enough I can't do it anymore I pray for my family I don't want them to go to hell but I can't keep putting myself in a situation where I'm treated that way...any advice..i feel God is telling me to move on its like I'm damned if I don't and damned if I do I got to shake the dust and keep it pushing they don't care what I feel or got to say so I got shake the dust Lord help me thank you for this video! This helped me and believe I need to hear this!

Bertha Poirier I'm saddened to learn of your traumatic experience and how your extended family have treated you so badly. Are they aware your other cousins have been hurt by this boy, too? You are under no obligation to have a relationship with people who misuse you and abuse you. That is not God's way. Having forgiven them also means you hand them over to the Lord's keeping...without being bitter (as you mentioned, and not wanting them hurt in revenge. I know of a few people like you who were bullied by family for speaking out. The victims were victimised. They are recovering now that they are growing up and moving on. Take care.

manic hairdo thank you so much it's just I try to see the good in the people ya know just it's tormenting well they don't come forward theor also scared cause they saw what happened to me. Just sucks no support at all at that age the complete opposite I had to figure it out on my own. I would love if I can learn how a full-time pastor, if any, makes time for downtime, be it with just self, family, friends, like a person with a regular 9-5 without much overtime, and if there are times they say no or not today to a parish member to protect the downtime with self and family and friends. 2.
