This is the best summary of Flam that I have seen. My late wife and I were fortunate enough to stay there for a week in 2011. We had one of four small horses on the Edge of the fjord only half a kilometer from the town centre. It was much less busy then and there were fewer excursion type options, but I think I preferred the blessed peace, quiet, and spectacular scenery we were able to enjoy 13 years’ ago.

If you want to customize your own trip and not buy the Norway in a Nutshell package, you can use our route and add what you would like. Most of this trip should be booked in advance, particularly the train trips as Flam is a popular tour destination.Here is our DIY Flam itinerary from Oslo (you can originate from Bergen as well): -Bergen Line train (Bergensbanen) from Oslo to Myrdal booked thru VY. -Flamsbana train Myrdal to Flam booked thru VY. -Naeroyfjord Cruise 90 minutes from Flam (one way) booked thru Norway's Best. -Return on bus from Gudvangen to Flam (cannot be booked in advance). -Floating Sauna - book with operator when in Flam. -Zipline/Bike adventure including one way Flam rail trip booked thru Fjordtours. -Train from Flam to Bergen (change trains in Myrdal) booked thru VY.

How much was the savings? I am planning for four people and Norway In A Nutshell from Fjordtours seems super convenient.
@RnRquicktrips10 ай бұрын
@@bruintoo We saved about $150 doing it ourselves, we also like doing it ourselves so that we could customize things like ziplining. It does take quite some time booking everything yourself, so going with Norway in a Nutshell might be worth it if you don't have a lot of planning time. Either way - enjoy! Flam is spectacular!

I love that you took your time, planned it out (because none of this happened by accident!) and mainly avoided the crowds. Why does it look like the Zip line is below Flåm not above it if you are travelling back down the valley? Love your videos they are very helpful. Did you do Rail Ninja from Bergen to Flam? We have booked the same hotel as you in Flam. Thanks Sandra🇨🇦

Like hike to the nearest station and then board a train? 2. Also is the hike safe? 3. And the tickets on this routes needs to be prebooked? Thank you so much in advance 😊

Do not go to Norway without visiting Flam! We booked the zipline/bike as a package. You can do the zipline and then walk to the bottom. We noticed some people taking the zipline did not purchase tickets in advance (it was very casual). I'm not sure about catching the train back down after ziplining, but there were many people walking down. It is a very safe road with not a lot of traffic.

We took the train from Flam (one way) and got off at Vatnahalsen, the zipline is a 5 minute walk from there. Then we ziplined and rode bikes (the bikes are right there at the end of the zipline) all the way back to Flam. The fjord cruise is in the center of Flam and we did not purchase tickets in advance. Hello! Thanks for this video! Trying to plan our trip in May and will follow your DIY Norway in a Nutshell. Just wanted to ask, how was it traveling with your luggage? Were there areas to stow your luggage on the Bergen Line and Flamsbana? I saw on the Norway in a Nutshell website to only take an overnight bag and avail of luggage transfer service from Oslo to Bergen but I saw on the video that you did have your luggage. Also, how far in advance did you guys book your train and cruise tickets? Thank you in advance!!

Thank you! We were worried about our large bag on the train as well but there is room for big bags on both trains. The Flamsbana had a small space for big bags, but very view people had large bags so it was no problem. We booked the trains (through Vy) about 2-3 months in advance.
