Same for me! I wasn’t into any of the traditional snow sports so a fat bike opened up a new world for me haha.

I've been riding my Salsa Mukluk 3 year round since 2015 - it's incredibly fun. Snow riding has really improved my mountain biking skills - your balance really improves since you're riding very slowly up hills, sometimes compressing 2 or 3 inches of snow, which really increases the workout. Many times you're forced to ride in ruts, because that's where the best traction is, and if you get out of the ruts, you sometimes end up sinking in a foot of snow - it really teaches you how to control your tires' locations. But the best part is the solitude - I very seldom see anyone else when I'm out riding, other than the occasional cross country skier or snowshoer. It's amazing.

Solitude is definitely my favorite part of snow rides as well!

I feel like fat bikes are a rebirth of the original mountain bikes. They basically do all the things the original mountain bikes were meant for but more extreme while retaining the rigid frame and fork. They hark back to simpler times.

I don’t disagree with your premise, but, the fat bike has evolved very rapidly. What took the mountain bike 20-30 years we have seen at bike refinement in 5-10. Front suspension, full suspension, refined geometry it all happened pretty quickly since the Surly Pugsley hit the bike shops. I know, custom fat bikes were around for a decade or more up in Alaska before Surly started to market fat bike rims and tires, but those original wheels, getting the manufacturers to make the tires and rims are what got the whole thing rolling. Those high end racing fat bikes are so different than the first Pugsley. It’s like comparing a Tour deFrance pro race bike with a touring bike. Surly even classifies the Pugsley as a touring bike the last time I looked at their website. I won’t even get started on the whole fat eBike thing……. Fascinating to watch this era in cycling developing so quickly.

I have an EMTB, but I bought a fat bike for the winter. What surprised me is how much fun the fat bike is in summer. I ride my fat bike more than I ride my EMTB because it is so much fun!

I'm addicted to mine! I ride it everywhere.... road, two tracks, mtb trails, snow. Most weekends I'll ride 21 miles to the park and then ride the MTB trails and then ride home. I'll ride it to work. You are correct about getting fit! I'm looking at getting a second one now.

I like road bike because it's fast and I can do the supertuck which is fun. I'm courious about fat bikes because it's harder to pedal that it will give me a really good workout and fun to ride according to reviews here on KZbin. Fat bike will definitely be my next bike.

big fan of the "ride fat, get fit" statement. I hope that applies to fat ebikes too. I realize there is a motor factor, but I'm in the market for one and riding is riding. **turns off motor assist**

I bought a fatbike week ago. I got a background of being a BMX rider during my teenage years. Now, +30y of age, I got interested back into bicycling. I use bike to go to work but got into thinking of doing so the full year. I live in Finland which means we got snow and low temps at winter so because of that, fatbike got my attention. I can surely say that fatbike really fits for beginners because I've been doing some exploring off the urban areas and head for trails and such. It also is good for getting fit, and it sure is fun. Me personally had quite hard to find any info here about this sport but managed to get one(I believe)decent bike.

cant put fat tires on a bus rack. 2.35 is about as wide as you can get for a normal rack. good enough for 50 weeks a year here north of Detroit.

depends how far the ride to work is - the longer that ride the less likely you would want a fat bike for it - but if not too long you could get faster tyres or wheel setup

I got my first Fatbike this year it haves a 26x4,9 setup. and 1x7 gears... Very basic budget one.. So far it gets the job done as i use it for Wolt deliveries (Food delivery) and otherwise i do some local bike trails but mainly its a cheap workhose that i use to make money so i can continue stydying without worrying about debt etc.. In fact that fatbike was the first thing i bought when i started my company..... Now i am waiting for the snow so i can enjoy some nice rides

I'm so fortunate to have a local shop sponsor a "try-a-bike" event every year, having a chance to ride a carbon fatbike absolutely made me add one to my wishlist.. haven't been able to budget it in yet. Normally I don't even care about carbon but it was soooooo light for what it was!

is it possible to ride a fat bike even on suburban paved streets or paved bicycle paths? I'm currently riding my Chopper cruiser (45 lbs, 1 speed, 3 inch tires) on my streets a few nights a week. It just seems that if I'm able to enjoy my Chopper Cruiser, a Fat bike which is probably a bit lighter and has speeds would be a fun change.

Thanks. I have 2 fatbikes. I agree for beginner to average ability riders ( i consider myself an average rider) fatbikes are awesome. When you see videos of world class riders comparing regular MTB's against fatbikes and they are faster on those MTB's they can push a bike to 100% of its ability. I cannot. And the Fat bike is SO forgiving.
