As always, excellent video and a very important topic! You need a literary agent to work with you. I finally signed with an agent last Tuesday. Been smiling ever since!

You make a good case. I particularly like the real estate analogy. I once tried to sell my own house and discovered how little I knew about what was required and handed it over to an agent pretty quickly. Your commentary regarding a book's cover also resonates. My experience of getting a book published directly with a publisher was that I was starry-eyed and probably intimidated by the whole process. I said 'yes' to everything because I was so excited that the company was interested in my work. An agent is a great buffer and as you say in this video, provides the level-headed experience that many writers lack. Thank you!

I’ve been a hybrid author for 9 years and been on the agent call but at the time I knew it wasn’t right. I’m finally at the point where I know having an agent is time. I want to have someone to help. I will be the first to admit that my career would have grown with an agent, but I also believe every author will know when the time for an agent is right.

I need a literary agent because I don't live in the US/UK or other English-speaking territory, but I wish to publish there. As much as I document myself, I feel like there's a distance (and maybe even cultural) barrier between the publishers and I that's working against me. Hence, an agent would be the perfect person to explain the ins and outs to me and guide me to see things I don't have the experience (and maybe opportunity) to see myself.

Self published book are so hard...biggest fear is getting scamed for thousands of dollars and you end up with nothing overall.

I'm already looking for an agent, but it was reassuring to hear that in the long run, it is better to have one. I would rather write than submit to publishers tbh. I don't want to spend my time searching who is a cat/chicken kind of person and who prefers dogs and dragons. Another great video! Time to write few more queries.

I saw that Jessica like transgender characters. It's what inspired me to write the novel I'm working on now.

I'd love to have an agent, but no one will take me on as a client.

I have self published a children's book how do I find an agent? My book is titled Tilly the Goat Princess.

Do you have a new book? Agents are not interested in books that have been already published. There are blogs that interview agents. Simple google search for literary agencies will give you results too. Also plenty of agents on Twitter. Follow them and check their websites, but do not query them directly on Twitter, you will look unprofessional.

I'm confused. Is this a real estate channel, or a literature channel? Just trolling, It's clearly a realestate channel 😄

The real estate agent comparison settles the issue for me, because I know what it was like to have an excellent, hard-working agent handle the process of selling our home. Thanks for these videos. (I am paying close attention.)
