Thank you for this video! I think 4:15 - 4:25 says it all and I completely agree. I've watched videos of other piano teachers on KZbin who are entirely against practicing the Hanon exercises but I've always been convinced that If I am not able to play the Hanon exercises well (and for beginners they are a challenge) and learn to play them fluently and at good speed, then I've learned something that cannot go in vain. And this applies to Cherny, scales, etudes, etc. This is not to say that we should only practice those and nothing else and for hours on end (that's a different subject).

Hanon and Czerney are good, I also like Phillip Isidor excerises and Brahms has some really tough rhythm ones.

I'm not athletic but I'd also use a sports analogy. I use exercises to try to even out the strength and ability across my hands - particularly for my left hand.

Im starting to learn piano. I live in Colombia and here its really difficult to find a good piano teacher for an adult. My teacher has the same age of me, and i wasnt conviced enough with his teaching. I have already take a month of class and i just had practice 2 exercises, one of czerny and another of mycrokosmos (i maybe wrong with the name) but maybe im wrong, and the technique its really importante to begin with
