I once had to sell an expensive camera to a guy I arranged to meet in a shopping mall. Just to be safe, I brought a friend with me as backup. Well, apparently, the guy thought the same thing and brought his brother with him lol. I have the exact same sentiment / problem with my osmo. I cant bring myself to want to use it. Its weird, thought I was the only one. Do i sell or keep it? Id rather have a zve1 or s9. Lets also not talk about the small lense filters that are cumbersome. I think id prefer the shape of the action 4 with a 1" sensor much more - but not sure they will release the 5 with one or not.
@BadSloucher4 ай бұрын
Oh yeah! I didn't even get into the small lens filters because that was going to be a whole other thing. I, too, prefer the shape of action cams like the Action 4 or GoPros even. But yeah, the sensor size is what would convince me to actually get one.

As a hobbyist, I'm so rubbish with "real gimbals" I mostly use them on a tripod/fluid head. My OP3 likes: it goes on more mobile supports (video monopod, fake jib/pole with a case/roll cage and phone as monitor), it turns vertical for Insta, etc., which Villanelle says is pathetic, and one gets gently coerced into learning about focus movement, subject tracking and how to grade 10-bit.
@BadSloucher4 ай бұрын
I, too, liked that it went on more supports. It was either this or the GoPro Hero 12 (which came out with a regular/standard tripod mount in addition to their GoPro flip-down flaps), but I already had a GoPro, so I thought I would try something new.

It’s great to hear about your experience with the Osmo! We’ve been using it for a few months now too, and it’s been perfect for the kind of content we create. We’re still a bit hesitant about filming in public, so the Osmo’s small size is a huge plus, especially when we’re shooting in places like restaurants. Despite how delicate it might seem, it’s actually pretty durable. We’ve accidentally left the case behind a few times, but the Osmo and Gimbal are still in perfect shape. Of course, our content is a bit different (we’re not quite as wet! 😂), and yours definitely has a stronger focus on aesthetics 😉. I (Sandro) have only ever shot videos with my phone and the Osmo, which probably has helped me build that muscle memory you mentioned a lot faster. And if you ever want to send that Osmo over to Switzerland, we’d be happy to take it off your hands! 😉 Great video and looking forward to the next one, doesn't matter which camera you use. Cheers

Have you tried using the extension thing? That comes in the creator kit? Much easier to hold that way. I can’t imagine that you’d have a problem selling it as they are very hard to get right now. I’ve been on waitlist as it’s backordered for the last four months straight. I’m shocked you are having a hard time selling it! I also sincerely hope that you keep trying it and learning it and make more videos with it like this because it’s refreshing to see someone speaking about the negative elements of the camera versus just glorifying it. (I’m a professional photographer so I’m buying and selling 24/7, it’s kind of a problem, lol. To be fair I live in Los Angeles so when I put something up it sells in 8 hours. Literally. Lol). PS: Great storytelling! Keep the pocket and make more videos with it! Please!

I actually just sold my zve1 two days ago on eBay (with a $100 lens and cage) for $1800, which I had for a year and a half, so for me that feels like a $400 rental fee for 18 months... Granted they take a 13% fee; it's still worth it so I don't have to deal with people. As an introvert and camera-junky that's a win, win. I say all this because I was planning on picking up the pocket3 to replace the zve1 as my b-cam... And you've made me rethink that idea altogether, so well-timed video. Thank you! Also, I dig your style of videos in general. It's a clever format or spin on the typical review formula. I see you blowing up quickly, so keep these coming!

I feel your pain with the Osmo pocket 3 but it handles much better for me when I the threaded attachment and I screw in small tripod so I have abou 7-9 additional inches that I can quickly remove and throw the whole setup in my pocket or in a sling bag. You already know in low light nothing beats the Sony ZV-E1, normally I have the 20mm 1.8 on it . I view the Pocket 3 as second camera to have , if you like getting BTS it may work great for that with its active track and the DJI Mimo app.

I use a GoPro 10 as my camera for travel, with the media mod you can attach a Rode Wireless Go. I think it's perfect for vlogging (except for low light). It is also very intuitive. I think it would be a great travel camera for you to vlog with your A7CII as your photo camera. (I am just saying this as it's the set up I use and it is very easy). I just put the GoPro on the floor or a fence post to film myself. Nice one. Good luck.
@BadSloucher4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I have the GoPro Hero 8 and I felt more inclined to use that than this. It's like a miniature phone camera so the leap in terms of physical user experience is a lot less jarring. I'm also doubtful that DJI would let me use a third party microphone with this Osmo Pocket so that people could use the one that comes with the creator combo. I could be wrong 🤷♀ but thanks for sharing your experience with the GoPro 10 - I may consider upgrading the GoPro if I really want a portable hiking/vlogging daytime camera.

I don't own a Pocket 3 but I chose not to buy one for the fragility problem you mentioned in your video. I've heard from numerous sources that gimbals can be very problematic to operate. I also agree that Craigslist sucks for selling camera gear. I recommend a pawn shop. If you can find a good one, the owners will be very professional and it can be a very comfortable experience to sell used gear there. Although you may not get as much money as you would on Craigslist. It all depends on what you're selling.

Totally agree I got the first gen pocket when it released but it always felt like I was holding some fragile bird. You spend too much mental worry with that thing it’s just not comfortable for me either. It always has to go in the case, and when you boot it, you have to center it etc. just too many little annoyances completely saps the fun of shooting video. Also it is basically just an iPhone anyway so why not get one of those. Its tiny sensor cannot do low light etc. I got a zve1 as well. It feels solid and has the tactile knobs for changing aperture etc. it also turns it into a hobby with all the manual controls whereas the pocket is more of a full auto camera, again sapping the fun imo.

I have been using all three iterations 🙂I treat them as a "supporting cameras". When you are in the car and want to capture stabilised footage or for group handling. I like passing the camera down a table at a party and whoever is interested can record his/her message. I've got to agree with you, the gimbal can be hard to learn and to use. Sometimes, it has a life of its own, not focusing on where you intend it to go. I do find that the iPhone 15 PM records better video quality (at least for me, in Apple Log) but none of these two can rival the A7IV.

The Pocket 3 is marketed in the same niche as action cameras. It's misleading. I briefly owned the Pocket 3 swayed by the idea of bigger sensor and better lowlight (gimbal) than an action camera. But the reality is that it's a vlogging camera. While the footprint and setup is faster than a traditional ILC, you treat them the same way, gently. Action cameras, can be used as a vlogging camera, but they're much more useful as POV and b-roll shots.

Have you tried any of the other modes on the Pocket 3? I use the motionlapse pretty regularly and it's so different than what I would normally capture. For your type of great storytelling, I think it would work really well. Also, if you don't already have them, a set of polarizer/ND filters will make a WORLD of difference in the quality of the footage. You can ditch the provided case and buy a cheap snap on cover that protects the gimbal and screen. Lastly, and this one is gonna sound weird, try using it as your wide angle stills camera. The images are 8MP, FF equiv. to ~ 20mm, and surprisingly good! It allows me to leave my wide angle lens at home and stick with just the 24-50 on my A7Cii. That story about meeting an old "friend" is hilarious. Of course it had to be him. 🤣🤣
@BadSloucher4 ай бұрын
I’ve used the AI face tracking feature and it’s really cool at first but watching too much of the footage feels so nauseating after a while. I have heard people rave about the ND filters but I hesitate to buy more accessories for this if I’m not super thrilled with it. The footage isn’t bad; it is the physical handling and different approach to composition that I can’t get used to. As I mentioned, I have my existing habits that can’t really be solved by accessories or another case. I wanted to like this very badly but it’s been a struggle

And if it’s a I can’t be bothered with lugging gear around day it’s still not as quick or convenient as just using my phone and the Blackmagic camera app. Totally agree on selling stuff, a sea full of sharks!
