This is very extremely helpful. I never knew that it depended on the climate. Down here in Texas in the summer is extremely humid. I won’t be using this in the winter anymore because the dew points are quite low. I also use other oils such as Rosemary oils, Castro oils, and coconut oil, and peppermint oils(different ways not all together) THIS WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL!! Thank you!!!

Thank you for your dedication to the natural hair comunity. As always hair is always looking fabulous. And thank you for helping us 4c girls accepting and learn to love our wash and go for what our curl pattern will naturally do. Also you have said in many of your videos that gels and hair product will not form what doesn't exist, but the product will help enhance whatever kind of curl or wave pattern that you have. Thank you for telling us 4c girls this because a lot of people think that gels and hair products will magically make something happen to our hair when in reality products don't. 💖💖💖

I have low porosity dry hair. I’m wearing it natural these days. Drying is a problem. I discovered my hair loves a small amount of glycerine as the O in the LCO method. I find that if I add gel to it to hold curl (LCOG), the glycerine seals in moisture and helps keep it supple and not crunchy. It will stay moisturized for a whole week. Saturday to Saturday. It. Only gets better over the week.

I learned the hard way about just how effective glycerin is at drawing moisture to your hair. I used a glycerin heavy product to do my twist out for work and the minute I stepped out of my house, I felt my hair moving and shrinking into a soft puff. I went to work looking like a bobble head, I was so mad and confused. I wish I knew then what I know now about glycerin. Thanks for your very informative video. Such information helps to fight confusion and frustration for people me who have chosen to go natural.

This past summer I used As I Am leave-in conditioner that is loaded with glycerin & paired it with the As I Am Curling Jelly. I used it in very humid weather b/c I wanted to see how the ingredients would work/react in my hair. The products definitely kept my coils defined & yes I embraced my shrinkage. Although, for me I always embrace my shrinkage in the summertime b/c of the humid weather I get shrinkage anyway. It was a great combo for my hair in the summertime.

For 2 years I stayed away from glycerin in the winter because I live in Michigan, and I had been wondering why my hair was dry. The humidity is too low inside. You can fix that. Don't have your air condition running excessively as this will reduce optimal humidity inside. Also if you indoor air is too dry you may want to have your ac unit checked to have this setting modified.

Late last year I discovered that my hair doesn't like glycerin in my styling products. I used the Miche leave in (loaded with glycerin) with TGIN gel. It was a disaster ! Once I went outside, my hair shrunk up, got super dry, tangled and it disturbed my curl pattern. I literally looked like Don King. This video was very intriguing. I recently purchased The Mane Choice Kids Collection 1,2,3,4. I liked it all, but the hydration spray and the moisturizer have glycerin in them as the 2nd ingredient. My 3c kid and 4b kid had very nice moisturizing looking hair before leaving for school, but by the end of the day their hair looked dry with a cast. It is winter, I will try again in the spring. I am using Camille Rose on my 4b/4c hair, and I tried it out on theirs as well. I just need to figure out which one works best for the 3c without weighing it down. Her hair is not as thick as mine and my 4b daughter's hair. Maybe I am too heavy handed with the products.

Thanks so much for sharing this video! A really helpful topic for us naturals! I was wondering if you could do a more in depth video on Castile Soap and Natural Hair. I was trying to find the video where you briefly mentioned it but couldn’t find it. I wanted to know your thoughts on using Castile Soap on natural hair, affects on hair, how to use it safely and using it in place of cowashing midweek. I use shampoo once a week to cleanse but wanted to know how it would affect my hair long term if I used it midweek to refresh my scalp and hair. I’m using Dr. Bronners as a reference. I know you did a black soap video just wondering if it would be the same or different? Using shampoo roughs up my hair but so far the Castile soap has not. Thanks again!

Actually I’ve tried Oyin years ago and lotions make my hair dry and hard after it dries. I also realized after all these years wearing a cotton bandana to cover my hair at night was one of the worst mistakes I have ever made. I wear stretch nylon/satan scarf I made from the fabric store. Since wearing them this week my hair has definitely stayed more moisturized. I have tried the curl love curl milk from CR and it made my hair dry as well. I think I’m going to take a leap of faith and purchase CR Curl Maker. I also have been practicing this week the lco method. Hopefully my new routine will help with length retention.

Fantastic video! I live up north and though i'm locked, I find that glycerin has the same affect on my hair when dew-points are low. I'm a new subscriber and love your content. As a type 4 natural, I particularly like the way that you try out products, explain styling technique and back up almost everything you state with researched findings (or state when you don't have evidence, yet, to support your assertions). I also love your discussions around books, health and the black community. As I've stated, I'm a locked natural but have decided that it's time to go back to being a loose natural. Do you have any videos on your top styling gels that provide the most slip and the most clump? Or do you have any recommendations (preferably sans glycerin) I've been working my way through your playlists and have yet to come across the aforementioned. Either way, keep it up. Panthenol has a similar effect as well. What do you think about glycerin-like ingredients in leave-ins and rinse-out conditioners? I’ve been avoiding glycerin products in general and recently tried Curls Hair Silk which has Sorbitol and no oils. Not sure how I’m feeling about it.

I don't mind many of the other humectants, I find they don't work the same.

Can you wash glycerin out of hair completely with just a clarifying shampoo?

@@ALove4Me Thank you! I just washed it out and it looks like hair is back to normal. I forgot that it's winter and I have dry air inside my apartment. I'll try glycerin again during summer when it's nice and humid.

I used dipity do foam mousse with glycerin witch was recommended by youtube influencers. My hair became so course, It also caused this spiderwebbing effect above my curls with friz. It was like the moisture in the air was just sitting droplets ontop of of the friz on my hair. I'm really not sure if this was a glycerin problem or just that my hair doesnt like the product. Anyone experiencing similar side effects from glycerin? I do not have this problem when using my usual products. However I tried glycerin because I live in a foggy and humid coastal province.

Is it true that if you color your hair, I use semi-permenent, but the video said it happens on permanent color too, and use products with glycerin, it will remove your color? I know my color has always washed out after my wash. I thought it was because I wasn't using a permanent color product. I just saw this in a video a couple of weeks ago. If I come across it, it was no one that I follow, I will let you know. Have you any knowledge of this? Thx. 😉
