That old Chevy Silverado looks 10 times better than most of the cars and trucks you see on the road today. I have a 96 Ford F150 with 5.0L Windsor V8 with 203,256 miles on it and it's still going strong.

Yeah my truck is in decent shape but thats because i take really good care of it. your 96' sounds like one dependable truck, but then again thats due to the reliability of those old windsor motors. if u take good enough care of it you can get 500,000 miles no problem.

cody morneault Absolutely man I bought the truck back in Wentzville MO back in October of 2015 for $3300 with my own money that I saved up by working two summer jobs,Christmas money, Birthday money, Graduation money, and taking care of my neighbor's dog. The truck is in great shape, it runs good, drives good and has good pick up and go. I get a lot of great compliments on my truck weather I show em the picture of my truck or they see it in person.

Deep in the Backwoods I will man I have 203,955 miles on it and it's still going strong. The only thing I replaced on my truck was the starter but other than that mostly was just simple maintenance and cleaned out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since.

Well now... I'm a Ford guy (please don't hate me for that, Cody xD) but that don't really matter I guess because it's kinda the same with all of the old stuff. It don't matter if it's a Chevy, Ford or Dodge. They're all great, rather cheap, easy + cheap to fix + service, and darn reliable if you take a little care of them! I appreciate your video a lot. Gotta love your attitute. I personally can't walk into a dealership nowadays because all I get to see there is simply disgusting xD Simple rides from simple times for simple men! Cheers and keep em um and runnin! I love your Chevy - sweet looking truck!

I have a Suburban, 198k miles and going real strong. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I don't have an open bed for outsized cargo, the truck bed makes a real nice hangout, sort of a mobile porch. However, as my 'Burb is a family trip-mobile, it'll carry all the stuff we could ever want to take with us, locked up inside, with plenty of roof to support the canoe and stuff like that. ...I'd still like a pickup though.

I'm not a fan of the 88-98 trucks because they are in the same price range of a 99-02 truck which have the ls motors which have much more power and are more reliable. The 03-06 or cateye trucks have held their value a bit more. IMO if you want a good daily driver cheap truck that will do anything the best route is a 99-02.

I am looking for a retirement truck......thanks for the video. I have 2 test cars that I have experimented on for 3 years to raise mpg. Raised my mpg using real products my uncle tested for 45 years in the arctic cold starts 1) Walmart product has 5 chemicals ......anti friction as engines have 60 % ,......carbon remover.....varnish remover.....top oil lubricant raises compression = more hp free torque.....Sludge in old engines and Canadian engines ....called MARVEL MYSTERY OIL .....google it or you tube it was used by racing teams in the 1970's to break in new engines for friction. 5 bucks in the US MMO Marvel Mystery Oil .......put 4 OZS per gas tanks of fuel and try for 1 year Highway MPG increase while engine cleans......6-8 OZS in the oil at oil change .....you can reduce oil and add more after 6 months but slow at first to remove sludge. 2) You don't have to use this from EBAY...... Militec 1 military anti friction ......it goes into the metal to reduce friction spots and I use it to but it costs money......It is used to keep a Helicopter flying 30 minutes to prevent a crash and POW situation....Vietnam...... when oil is shot out of Helicopter

The great thing about an old truck is you can treat it like old truck. Like he stated in the video they are cheap to fix and you can do all the work yourself. I replaced the 2 front rotors on my truck a few months back and they cost 25 bucks a piece. My uncle replaced the rotors on the front of his 2012 and they cost 120 bucks a piece and he was mad that mine were so much cheaper lol I take mine off road all the time and I don't have a care in the world about dents or scratches or things like that. Stuff I would never do with a new truck especially if I were still paying on it which really limits what you can do with it.

Each site is special in its own way, RockAuto is relatively cheap overstock/slow selling parts Sometimes Amazon will have a "warehouse deal" and sell cheap for the same reasons as RockAuto. Finally Ebay has alot of salvage sellers and you can find cheap used parts or lower quality generic brand stuff, it's a great choice if you are repairing an A to B vehicle maybe buying some accesories to make your car comfortable without going into the $300 territory .

I'm considering getting a truck mainly because I bought an 07 Honda Accord for $3000 last July which I thought was in good shape and had a clean title but the owner lied to me it was a rebuilt title and I spent $2300 in repairs in the 6 months I've had it. I plan on selling it for a single cab or extended cab GMC Sierra.

if the car cost you almost as much as you paid for it in repairs in only half a year id trade up. you cant go wrong with a chevy/gmc truck. the 1999 - 2006 trucks are the best value. good price (average 2wd extendid cab is $2k - 4k) has good build quality and is a great practical daily driver. and get the exstended cab, its way better than the single cab.

Vegas Vlogs 2.30 as the highest is an exaggeration. I remember in 2007-2008 when gas was well over 3.50 a gallon in Houston, which has some of the cheapest gas in the us. These days, it's a little more than half that in Houston.

Sold my 02 Silverado, Z-71, ext. cab with the four doors, 192K in AZ for $4000. Is was in excellent shape. No rust, new AC (every line and component), fuel pump, etc. This was as of spring 2017. Most offers I received were in the mid to low 3000's and I thought it was absolutely ridiculous for a no rust, very well maintained full size 4 wheel drive truck so I held out til I got the 4K. Took a few months but I got it. Since the truck in this video is in a similar environment/area but its an older model (still very nice) with about 50-60 less horses, same on torque I would think you shouldn't have to pay more than 3K......even with the lower mileage. Can't ask for a better vehicle for a first truck for a new driver. I would say the only drawback is the fuel consumption. It's a trade off though as it can haul. Depends on your needs.

as soon as he said his truck is unstoppable with the 4l60 trans i had to stop and read the comments. that trans is weak. and 2-4 grand is not what to pay for a truck like this maybe 2 grand but deffinitley not 3 or 4 grand. i bought an 02 f150 supercab for $900 canadian and it runs great. it had 190 000 miles on it when i bought it but it literally sounded healthy as shit. trans shifts smooth, OD works and the engine is strong and sounds new. 2 valve tritons are a good choice id rather pick that over the silverado. all this thing needed was an alternator, rear brakes and a blend door motor for the heat and the rust is minimal.

As a mechanic, I would suggest getting a 1995 or older, and avoid the OBDII emissions crap that came out in 1996. It is a nightmare to work on. Also stay away from anything but TBI injection. It is almost as reliable as a carburetor. Multi Port fuel injection is another expensive nightmare. I personally am a fan of 1973 to 1987 Chevy/GMC trucks. They have carburetors, and are super easy to work on. Very minimal electronics. A couple of other things to remember. 1993 and older trucks are going to have R-12 A/C, and it will be impossible to fix without modifying it to use R-134a. And GM trucks from 1996 up will have DEXKILL coolant. This stuff is an engine destroyer. You may wind up having to replace the engine depending on how plugged up it is. DEXKILL changes from a liquid to a solid in the engine, and once that happens, it's too late. It doesn't take that long either. Four wheel drive is an option, IF you need it. The four wheel drive system in pre 1988 GM trucks is far superior to the flimsy setup they put in newer models. It uses an almost unbreakable solid front axle and leaf springs. The front differential and transfer case are easy to remove and replace in these trucks.
@wranglercody8422
@wranglercody8422 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I wish my truck was TBI, I had problems with the spider injectors on mine around 90k miles. and for off road use a solid front axle would be awesome but for a daily driver that sees occasional off road use IFS works pretty good. Thanks for watching . (:

And it's my daily driver to work and back home 5 days a week 50 miles a day and it was never a daily driver anyway so it was never abused but the paint is peeling pretty bad and some surface rust but I'm thinking of getting it Rhino Lined completely !! The automatic transmission changes gears smooth as silk and the floor shift 4X4 works like a charm and the cruise control is to be admired while feeling the transmission get a good strong workout while going up nice long inclines and now I'm a firm FAN of Lucas oil stop leak and Lucas Transmission additive as well for my truck !!! So I'll continue to give it the respect it deserves and the proper TLC and it'll take care of me getting me from point A to point B !!!!

A truck should have the maximum hauling capacity for the smallest amount of money spent. This way you make more money per load you are hauling. Today's trucks give you the exact opposite of that. If you buy a truck today you are forced to spend way more than you need to haul what you are hauling. Nothing about today's trucks make sense from the stanpoint of what a truck really should be. Just look at a modern truck creeping through a mall parking lot empty and you can see that it does not make any sense. Too much initial cost for unneeded size, power and features plus constant maintenance cost makes no sense.

My 98 gmc sierra 5.0l 1500 has 255000 miles on the original motor and trans and everything works on it. It has no body rust and runs as smooth as any new vehicle. And I have a 99 ford ranger with the 3.0l and it's got 245000 miles on the original motor and trans. Payed 2000 for the gmc and only 600 for the ranger. I rescued the ranger from going to a junk yard because it was totaled on from hitting a tree. And I drive the ranger almost 100 miles a day for work. Old trucks are good for work and use. But not the best daily drivers because they break and they're bumpy and uncomfortable to drive. But parts are cheap and easy so it goes both ways. 305 V8 makes probably 200-215 horse. Not 130. I have to disagree on the sexy part though. You can't haul 3000lbs in the bed either. It's a half ton. 1000lb bed capacity. 350 is a good reliable engine but not bulletproof. 4L60E is anything but bullet proof either. Sorry man I don't think you know what you're talking about.
