Dare I say, Super Paper Mario - even though it doesn't have the traditional battle system - has one of the best stories in a Mario game. It really is overhated, and it's a shame. I'd love to see more Paper Mario games go in some directions that this game does.

I think the reason for the chain chomp fight in the underwhere is supposed to be the message that THAT specific game style is dead Since you're in the underwhere where everyone and everything is dead

Adding onto that I assume that they put both Asphodel (Greek purgatory) and Tartarus (Greek hell) in the underwhere, which means Mario, Luigi, and Bowser were most likely sent to purgatory rather than hell

48:58 Actually beating Flopside's Pit of 100 Trials a second time gives you the main 4 heroes' character cards, The mechanic about collecting cards in this game is that once you collect the card of an enemy, you deal more damage to THAT enemy, but the main character cards are unique in that it lets you deal TWICE as much damage to EVERYTHING, so the true reward is being twice as strong I guess? not that you really need it but it literally breaks the rest of the game.

37:53 I think you forgot to put emphasis on how this was delivered, In the Sammer's Kingdom the prophecy says that the one able to defeat all 100 will get the pure heart, so they try to carry on with that, but as you progress, the black hole becomes bigger, things gets so grim and the game puts a big sense of urgency with the NPC you have to fight literally letting you pass through without fighting, because they all are very much aware of what is gonna happen soon.

People also need to remember. Super Paper Mario was originally being developed for the Gamecube, and the Gamecube already had The Thousand Year Door as its Premiere Mario Turn Based RPG, so I can understand the perspective of wanting to do something different but still feel like Paper Mario, but the fact that it got transferred to the Wii and the Wii did not get a true Paper Mario RPG game, makes people treat Super like a bad decision to make even though it doesn’t deserve it. I remember when people were dismissive of Super Mario 3D World because it wasn’t the new 3D Mario game people wanted, but it was until Super Mario Odyssey came out, and later on 3D World got ported to the Switch, is when people actually started seeing the value and special flavor that 3D World was going for. I feel like if Paper Mario does fully return to its RPG roots after the TTYD remake, I can feel sure Super will be seen with better colors eventually.

Becausee I grew up with the Wii, Super Paper Mario was my first ever paper mario game. I was too much of a kid to really understand the complexity of the story, but I've played through it again recently and it's really hard to believe it's a mario game. Although nothing is too difficult in the game it lets you one hit many bosses if you get it from the second its available

What I really like about this game is the plot twist spoilers you're basically just playing dimentio's game and he just lets you beat him and even he helps several party members at various points in the game, until he betrays count bleck and tries to kill you at the end.

I was focusing more on the gameplay and how things went beat by beat instead of talking about the overall story. I also made this video for people who might not have played super paper mario so holding back on dimentio helped experience the twist at the end since I know the people who I wanted to watch this might not play the game. I should've mentioned him more he is a big part of the games overall plot, but in my experience I felt more of a connection to Tippi and the Counts storyline and it was the driving force for me coming back to the game so often, it's why it has more of a focus in this video.

@@ThatGuyWhoGames fair enough it does piss me off that they didn’t give my boy Dimentio like any depth as a villain basically turning his backstory into secret bonus content and then it’s like fucking deciphering FNAF lore. I can hope that one we get a remake that foreshadows Dimentio’s plan as well as before but, also heavily connected him with the themes of the game and fleshed out the relationship between and Luigi, and made the final it more of a challenge to awaken Luigi instead of basically being like insta killed when Bowser hops on that mobility scooter. Ah but one could only hope. Also great video BTW love the music video at the end wish more KZbinrs did more artistic stuff like that

To feel sadness is to live... but as long as you are alive, the future is a blank page." Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Super Paper Mario despite all its flaws. I always say that a Paper Mario game combining both TTYD's gameplay and SPM's story and writing would be the game of the century. But in the end, they are separate entries in a series that had to change, evolve and try new things, for better or worse, and even though we've gotten mostly the worse since then, the future of the Paper Mario series is still a blank page... Good video, I really liked your change of perspective and how you tied it along the story's progression. I mostly agree with your criticism of the gameplay and wholeheartedly agree with your praise of the story and writing. The game is not TTYD, but it still rocks in its own unique way.

this video came out the day after I turned 18, and the overall message it has hit alot harder than I expected it to (no spoilers for the people who jumped straight to the comments). I never expected something so deep from a video about Paper Mario, then again you never expected a Mario story to get so dark. This is a fantastic video, and I can't wait to see where you end up.
