No, that would not work in my kitchen. My fry pan is an uncovered black iron skillet. It leaves plenty of grease splatter even on low burner settings. And only 2 slices of thick bacon at a time, but 2 of us in the household.

Thanks for the recipe. My wife has had some health problems and I had to retire to take care of her. Which means after 46 years in the welding trade, I am now the cook in the house. Tried several different methods of cooking cornbread and happened upon yours. This recipe is...........PERFECT!!!!!! It tastes great and does not stick to the bottom of my iron skillet. At the end of your video, you mixed it with pinto beans. Try this one, take a large single portion bowl, add some large butterbeans (no juice), then some fried potatoes cooked with onions, then crumble up some of that delicious cornbread. Now, add some more butterbeans (with juice) and stir to get everything wet with the butterbean juice and enjoy. Thanks again, for sharing your recipe!!!

👍 Hi Robin. I realize this video is over 2 years old, but I just discovered it last week and I can't thank you enough! I've loved bacon all my life but the only cooking method I knew was the frying pan on the stove. As a result, I very seldom cooked bacon because I dreaded that horrible cleanup, not to mention the burns on my hands from grease splatter: It happened at least once per session no matter how careful I was. I never liked the taste of microwaved bacon, and a few other methods I found on KZbin just didn't seem believable. I wondered if cooking bacon in the oven wouldn't just splatter up my oven and oven door? For my research I watched your video and around 6 others.Yours was the ONLY ONE that mentioned to cover the bacon with parchment paper. I tried your method for Easter Breakfast last week. It was fantastic. I'll never fry bacon again! And letting the fat cool on the paper before clearing it away was another great tip. Thank You/Merci/Muchas Gracias!

@kathh81942 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. I've tried soooo many recipes posted on youtube and this is the first that delivered just as promised. I cook several packages of bacon at a time and freeze them so they're ready to eat and this is a huge mess-saver and time saver. Because I cook multiple batches I just replace the parchment about every other batch to avoid overly browned stuff sticking to the bacon. I also use a piece of foil that covers the entire pan and overlaps the sides to contain the grease. That seems to work well. (Do you know how to make yorkshire pudding?? I need a recipe!)😄

Thanks for sharing! Sorry I don’t have a recipe for the pudding at the moment.

Great tip, thanks. These days I like to use the teflon coated cooking liners instead of parchment or baking paper. They go thru the dishwasher at the top of the upper rack and I’ve been using the same two sheets for nearly ten years now, so much more economical over a long time than buying parchment.
@RockinRobinCooks4 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with the teflon coated cooking liners. The only problem I would have with that is the possibility of the teflon getting into your food. Are they the same as the silicon liners?
@PVflying4 жыл бұрын
@@RockinRobinCooks similar, but the teflon ones tend to be much lighter and thinner than the silicone coated mats. Teflon is good to 500F and won’t leach into food. I’ve found them to be a real benefit to my cooking - only drawback is they sometimes need more than one trip thru the dishwasher if heavily greased, but I suppose I could hand wash them. Not much wrong with your solution of parchment paper either, just mentioning there’s an alternative 👍

I am a southerner. We just don’t throw away bacon grease. It is so full of flavor and makes everything you cook in it taste so much better. I know it’s not great for your heart or your arteries so don’t do it that often but you don’t eat chocolate cake that often either do you? Anytime you cook greens, add a tablespoon of bacon grease. Bacon is the most flavorful of all the meats. Don’t throw any of it away- like someone else said, the grease is liquid gold. I have been using a rack and it is a pain to clean. I’m going to try not using a rack, but I’m not going to add any parchment paper either. Get a widemouth pint canning jar to store it in the refrigerator.

Finally...THE Definitive video on cooking bacon in the oven! I like how you always "keep it real," telling the TRUTH about things. I've seen videos with internet and tv cooks talking about doing bacon in the oven for years--but they don't tell you the reality. I had no idea it leaves your oven filthy (which I always suspected)! Love your giving us the scoop and addressing the details as you always do. That said, I don't have much use for the oven method because honestly I really only use bacon for my salads. I chop it into bite-size pieces and then fry in a pan on the stovetop...By the way, I miss your cute little music intros with your younger self and family restaurant photos. (I get that you've probably decided to do the jokes instead.) Finally, I bet if you used at least a double layer of foil you could avoid any greasy cleanup at all. :)

He loved to tell jokes to customers in our restaurant and make people laugh. So the jokes are in his honor. I started doing them at the beginning of the pandemic just to bring a little smile to people peoples faces. Have a great day!

I would recommend using a larger (wider) sheet of foil. If you have the wider foil, it reaches the top of the lip on all four sides of your half-sheet pan, so you've contained all the bacon grease. This will allow you to either 1) save the bacon grease (in a glass jar); or 2) let it cool and then slowly remove the foil from the edges towards the center, capturing the grease towards the center and then put the foil in an old plastic vegetable bag (or Ziploc). Your pan is still clean, and grease free (since you've balled up the grease for easy disposal).

Thanks for sharing your ideas!

@@RockinRobinCooks If you are saving the oil, you can mold a tiny "spout" in one corner of the foil lining before you cook, that will also help pour the oil into a safe (glass) container when it's still warm.

Don't throw the bacon grease away. Put it in a can and store it in the freezer. Then you have bacon grease to cook things in.

She’s making it a bit more complicated than it really is …1) just pull out a sheet of foil large enough to cover your pan and make sure all the sides are up so the grease doesn’t run out … 2) She’s right though, the bacon can’t touch but you can slap it in there(and you can put the slices very close to one another), no parchment paper needed, it has never splattered out for me! 3) 420° for 5 to 10 slices approximately 12 minutes, depending on your oven. Best bacon you ever tasted!
