Instagram was never fun in my opinion.
@kaleidojess4 жыл бұрын
All the things I’ll mention below are the changes instagram has made that I think are worst. Instagram many years ago was fun in the sense that if you followed an artist you’d see their posts in order, not random posts from accounts you’re not even following in your timeline. Before Fakebook came along and ruined it, emerging artists on the platform actually had a good chance of being recognized as an artist. The Instagram art community was less copy cat and more fun. In fact Instagram only seems to promote art accounts that look exactly the same. One really has to search to find unique artists. Why would I do that when I could just go on deviantART ? Before the explore page would’ve been filled with interesting posts, now it’s mostly junk and TikTok-like videos. Oh and the ads and the encouraging of spending money is annoying. What’s the point of a platform that enables people to follow other accounts but can barely let through the same accounts you’re interested in seeing ? It’s like one big glossy mess.

Yeah Instagram was so fun back in 2013 before they added the 15 sec videos. I was still in high school at the time in 9th grade and used to have an old Instagram account that I created in 2012 to which I deleted 3 years ago (I'm now 23). I became somewhat lonely after being nearly 3 years social media free and then created new Instagram + Twitter accounts to only follow celebrities and Hollywood actors that I like but then I fell back in the same hole and found myself mindlessly scrolling on Twitter and Instagram for hours on end, focusing so much on other people's lives. I was sick of it and made the decision in January to delete all of my social media for the last time. Now the only "social media" platform that I use is KZbin. It gets to you sometimes that you're isolated from society and the loneliness and it sucks and I learned that you have to fill out your time by doing other things. Read books, find new hobbies, focus on your studies, get in shape and start working out. If you weigh in the pros of quitting SM, it's better to focus on yourself and your life instead of other people's lives. All the best.

I’m a college student and it’s actually sad how many kids are mindlessly addicted to social media and their status. Recently I decided to take a 2 month break from college. I was always so against social media and it hurts me of the negative things it has done to my generation. I recently decided to literally just delete Instagram and Snapchat off of my phone. All I can say is wow. I’ve been struggling hard with honestly finding a purpose in this world. I’ve always felt like an outcast in a lost generation. Now that I’ve separated myself from all the bullshit, all I do is work, hang out with my close buddies, and enjoy every second I have on this earth with nature. It’s a beautiful world we live in don’t compare yourself to someone you aren’t even close with when you can have a meaningful connection with someone who fills your heart with laughter and joy. One other point that is worth mentioning is that deleting your Facebook also frees the tension so other people can delete their Facebook. After all, the reason why most people don’t have the guts, is because of just a couple true friends. You STILL live on the social media and you are still subject to privacy intrusion and data mining if your friends and family still share things about you on their own social media such as posts that mention you and some information about you, photos that you appear in etc. Of course, with the difference that it's not you that is actively participating in it. Privacy is not one way interaction. It's a collective effort. There are people that you trust your privacy with so you need to remind them to respect it.

Here's my two cents: 1. I don't like to post everything I'm doing and brag about how great my life is. I still treasure the special moments in life. 2. When discussing with others and posting things online, I don't hide how I'm feeling. I don't see the benefit of painting a perfect picture of my life online. Everyone I interact with and follow online don't hide how they feel either. 3. I believe I have all ad personalization turned off, and I don't regularly purchase things online. 4. I don't side with big companies. 5. The only personal info I expose online is through the use of Google programs like drive, docs, calendar, and most notably Google photos. As I said earlier, I have personalized ads turned off, so I don't see what else they can use my personal info for. 6. I don't have many connections or relationships with strangers online, and when I do, it's only temporary. Social media (and the internet as a whole) has mostly improved my life. It's gotten me through tough times, and the people I follow have done nothing but inspire me to pursue my interests. It's made me step out of my comfort zone on multiple occasions and has broadened my knowledge twofold. So therefore I believe social media is a really good thing, when used properly of course. Self-regulation is VERY important. Guess I grew up on the right side of social media as well.

after leaving socmedia, i found that its pretty annoying trying to talk to someone with their eyes glue to there phone and not paying any attention to you. having to repeat things or questions to someone not listening.

The pandemic was super eye opening to me. It was sad to see the effort people made to keep interesting posts on Instagram during the lockdown and due to the stressful time we were going through, I kept interactions to a minimum of friends. This lead me to the realisation that WhatsApp was enough (unfortunately owned by Facebook)

Been staying away from social media to focus on myself and family. I feel confident about it thus far. I started feeling the pressure of keeping up knowing half of what I seen was just for public view and not reality. It's better to stay away from that kind of poison.

YES influence/control has to be the biggest factor for why I recently deleted most of my social media. Using social media regularly made me feel like I was living my life in a panopticon. All of my pictures, conversations, thoughts, etc. existing on these platforms gave these companies all the information they need to effectively hypnotize me with content. I'm striving to live a life not void of new technology, but one in which I am protected from being manipulated by social media.

Just think, when you’re on your death bed, are you really going to look back and think “I’m so glad i spent half of my life scrolling through social media”. You won’t. You’ll regret missing out on real life.

Got rid of Facebook in 2012; got tired of the spying and malicious comments. Never acquired a taste for the other platforms--no interest especially after deleting Facebook. Thanks for this. It affirms my choice.

I’m addicted to social media and I consume more than I produce. It truly takes up most of my time. I’ve been thinking of permanently deleting my social media’s but I’ve had so many memories, meaningful connections and inspirations on there. It’s really hard.

Why are you wearing a mask in your profile pic? It’s just reeks of liberal virtue signaling and slave worship of the state. No wonder you can’t delete your social media.

@@alextaylor8776 because it was required for my job at the time that picture was taken, Thanks for judging and trying to belittle a stranger instead of giving helpful advice or support. But your rude comment says more about you than it does me. 🙃
@alextaylor87763 жыл бұрын
@@wtfmonicaa97 It’s required for your job. What does that have to do with your KZbin pic? You could have chosen a million other pics but you specifically chose the mask one because you like most people deep down love wearing a mask and showing the world you’re a good obedient sheep that obeys mask wearing, social distancing, lock downs. The sad truth is people like you ( liberals) love Covid 19 in its entirety and your whole identity is through Covid 19. You can’t imagine life without it and don’t want it all to end. It’s has become the new religion of the masses. Become a Christian and then a conservative and I guarantee you’ll hate that mask and everything else to do with Covid 19.

I was lucky to be an high school before social media got big, it's pull wasn't as strong as it is now. Back then there was nothing about social media I liked, that stance still hasn't changed. In my introverted pov it's basically a big room where people are doing whatever they can to get attention, taking it to bigger and bigger extremes, often to the detriment of their own well being. Everyone is both the carnival barker and freakshow. I had better things to do than exploit myself to the world for cheap validation. I had a family to tend, pets to love, hobbies to pursue, and nature to explore. I keep a journal, dabble in art, take photos of things I do or places/people I love. You'll never see it though. My private life is just that... Private. Sounds weird these days but before I was born that was the norm. I like the intimate nature of the life my folks lived and now at 24, it's what I'm emulating now.

For anyone reading this thats hesitant in doing so, just do it. I did it around a year ago and my true character was exposed and I was able to find my passion. It was almost as if I was in some sort of trance and me as a person had a filter on (unknowingly). It terrifies me to know I would still be searching for happiness if i didn't take that path.

You did post it in KZbin. Pulling your leg. Thing is social media can be used for good even though is a really old answer to everything. I am focusing on youtube there is great many things I have learnt and podcasts I have watched that made me feel like my brain expanded. But on the same note, you have a great point and you are right as well.

Life just feels more fulfilling after I left all social media two years ago. I spend more time with family now, especially my one year old nephew. Just more productive in general. It's very easy to get so caught up in everyone else's lives to the point of neglecting your own. I saw it was making me feel like people I never met were my true friends when in actuality, its superficial and superfluous. Getting off the grid puts you back into the real world full focus and honestly, I dunno why I got so caught up in Social media in the first place.

I'm in my mid 20's and I have never used Instagram, Snapchat or any other social media platform except Reddit (mostly just watching) and Facebook which I stopped actively using back in 2012. I never saw the benefit of these apps, maybe hookups but that's what nightlife is for generally. I'm regularly getting hit on and it's crazy that people think I'm lying when asked about social media, a decent amount even get angry because they think I'm giving them an excuse to not be bothered. It's honestly baffling to me that most people take social media for granted and assume everybody is using it. Only thing I'm regularly using since 2009 is KZbin, every couple years or so I switch accounts though same as Reddit.

I have had a lot of fun with social media but it was a lot more fun back in the day . I am a health freak and part of health is mental health however I have been trying to purge the social media from my life . I think that I may actually do it . I remember back in the 1990s we didn't have social media and I didn't spend all day online. I mean I do other things . I actually play more video games than time on social media. What gets a lot of my attention is dating sites however they don't work for the average Joe. All dating sites do is give you a false sense of fulfillment in the thought that you are putting in effort to find a partner .
