Amazing breed, lovable and best friend. Have a black lab sleeping by my feet.

Your videos are always inspirational, Will. Do hesitate to get a Lab at this point because my apartment is frankly small and am out for work for long periods of time. Hope there's a lab or more in my future life should I move to a bigger place more suitable for it. Thanks for sharing, Will.

Agree with everything Will said. Got my yellow lab puppy last November when he was a month old and it was my first time owning a dog also a pet other than birds. In the first few months I had no idea on how to train a dog and so far I would not consider myself having average skills but he's so forgiving of my mistakes and is eager to do things properly even if my pace is slow. He can be overexcited most of the time and I have a hard time dealing with overexcited dogs, I understand that it's natural for male dogs as I fostered a female Doberman for a month and she was as calm as a rock. Had it been a different breed like a rottweiler or any other fierce breed I had chosen back then I wouldn't have been able to continue with the idea of having a dog. Labradors are my personal recommendation to first time owners for that reason, if you have trouble handling the overexcitedness like me then preferably go for a female and u can get a male later on in the future when you are good enough.

Spot on Will. I have a working breed lab (Guide Dog Puppy) and bringing it up as a puppy raiser - he is completely different to the pet labs I have owned in the past. It would be great if you could post a video on the differences between "pet" labs and "working" line breeds - like many learning owners I would love to know more about this difference - especially in service dogs. Thanks again for your brilliant videos!

Michelle Falk 1 second ago no.. my yellow runs up and barks, 98 lbs of im gonna eat you.. i got him at 4 years old, from a state trooper.. he ran and never had boundries and they had a shocker on him as well. he will not play fetch outside, only inside, he drags me on walks, its hard for me to control him, ive never used the shocker. i let him out and he almost got sprayed by the meter reading people, hes broke 5 thick collars, he has dragged me 10 feet in the grass, after spotting a stray cat.. he loves kids, and the 4 cats we have, all i know is this is gonna be a challenge, its exausting walking him to the creek, and letting him run and yes hes a crackhead with all water. ive had him for almost a year now.. is it to late for professional training? or maybe i need to take up hunting and find games for him that will enrich him. this dog has been passed around.. its gotta end with me
