Wow. What an amazing panel. I study almost each on of them.

10:03 I believe is called Robert wordings first rule of programming which you know States has any sufficiently complicated concurrent program in another language contains an ad hoc and formally specified bug-ridden slow implementation of half of Erlang 22:15 you have them so basically managing the hard problems now Erlang an elixir don't necessarily make the easy things much easier than like a ruby or a Python but they make the hard things a lot easier。 23:15 they said wait that's it this is this is easy, OTP is easy they've kind of got that so it was really cool and then every single. manager and everybody got it after one day this big OTP beast and they were just stunned into silence it was a joyous teaching moment okay yeah yeah so. 28:21 why do I teach to beam my blanket Erlang I think what really attracted me to language is the fact that it changes the way you think and reason about programming and you're the biggest challenge in learning Erlang is actually unlearning all of the bad habits from other programming languages you happen to start thinking concurrently I taught was back in 1998 and that's what you did not want to be there they fought that Java which was the cool kid in town back then was the best thing since I'd spread and and was a very young me they're thinking that they must have had a really really traumatic experience learning it and learning Java that is and you know I was actually thinking I believe that any other programming language was gonna be as romantic and I had you know three weeks

What do they do after learning OTP and Erlang ? I completed online Erlang course but there are no Erlang jobs that don't require 10+ years of relevant experience.
@ErlangSolutions4 жыл бұрын
Hey Maaruks, Sorry to hear that. There is definitely still demand for Erlang and Elixir developers in production. www.beamjobs.net/ is a good place to start your search.

Elixir is conceptually the same but less verbose, give it a try elixirjobs.net/

Write a sample dashboard app in Phoenix and demonstrate 1000 connections running random database CRUD operations. Those companies that say need 10+ years experience is to discourage people that do not have self-confidence. Just send your resume and present your app on your laptop, prepare to be rejected, if you didn't get the job ask that person why they think you are not suitable, and learn from it. Everything will be fine.

I remember when I started to learn Ruby/Rails, was the same thing... there are no Rails jobs, etc.. almost 15 years latter, I'm still working with Ruby on Rails; Now I'm learning Elixir/Phoenix I'm not sure if it will happens the same of Ruby/Rails, however when you see lot of conferences, things like Phoenix LiveView, more and more libraries written in Elixir. I feel a little bit in the early days if Ruby on Rails. And finally if you learn a new programming language to find a job is okay. even if you don't get the job... but you will learn things and who knows in the future, you will apply those knowledge in your dairy work as a programmer. Good day!

The Erlang and Elixir community is small. People know each other. There is no need to have info about new opportunity on each corner.
