I have worked in the Upstream for almost 15 years. This industry isn't for everyone, and realize that your role is going to change, and you need to be able to hit the ground running and adjust. Having worked as a Geoscientist in Exploration, Development, wellsite/geosteering, advice I would give to any young person is take the time to learn how your role fits into the larger picture, how your role adds value, and how you can leverage it to the next role. It is very easy to get tunnel vision on a certain basin or play and be open to learning new things. Having varied experience in different plays across mostly Alberta/Texas/BC/New Mexico, has helped me greatly but at the time when I adjusted to new areas and roles was very stressful. You do have to love this to do it, and you are 100% correct, the money alone won't be enough for the ups and downs.

Yoshi!! Thanks!! I started in 1978 & I am in the industry for around 45 years!! The reason for me in OIL & GAS is MONEY!! I didn't care hardship & I've earned US$40 million in Assets & Cash!! I don't complain for hardship & I am only into MONEY!! Can you tell me any other jobs can make BIG MONEY?? I have my own Oil company now!! May be I was born very poor in 1950's??? No complain!! I like your workaholic attitude too!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

@@FaroukAli-e7p great question. I am fortunate enough to not experience anything so bad to where I would leave, but not every industry is perfect. I’m pointing out what could be reasons people will want to leave oil and gas.
