Binned batteries can cause fires. There has been an increase of batteries and items with in-built batteries going in bins. Battery fires put staff at waste and recycling sites and the firefighters at risk, they should never be put in household bins.
BBC Morning Live highlighted the importance of disposing of batteries safely. #BeBatteryAware is a campaign by Recycle for Greater Manchester and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (@ManchesterfireGovUk) which aims to remind residents why it is important to recycle batteries.
