It's a laughable thing when a person says someone is "less of a man" because of the bike they ride. That already shows how less of an individual the complainer is. Stay in your lane, and everything will be golden. Live your life, focus on your life, and no one else's.

I found myself at the harley dealer one saturday and was looking hard at the 1200 sportys but because I'm 6'4" the bike just is too small in the frame. I ended up riding a trade in 07 dyna street bob for a good price. Loved the bike, lost it to the repo man as I was dianosed with lung cancer(stage 3) and had to quit my job to enter chemo and radiation treatments. Just couldn't afford the note on disability.. Well, I beat the cancer and fully plan on another harley when I recover enough to get back to making enough money to afford toys again. It really doesn't matter what kind of bike. Guy adked me what kind I was thinking of getting and I told him the kind thats got two wheels and handlebars, LOL.....

I bought a 1989 Sportster as my first bike, passed my test aged 59... I am 6ft and 80kg so I am in the process of fitting forward controls but rode it for the past few months with mids, it has plenty of grunt. As it is an older model, it has carbs, 4 speed box and chain drive, all of which I prefer. Gonna enjoy this summer cruising about, if by the end of summer the 883 feels too placid (which I doubt) then I'll have the option to upgrade using a 1200 kit over winter - For now...I am adequately happy, performs fine for my needs and only cost me £2k.

80 years old. I've been riding motorcycles , Hare scrambles, motocross, road trips and commuting during the mid-70's gas crunch. Hondas, Suzukis, CZs , Yamahas , an Ossa Pioneer and a big Husky since 1967. I've sold all of them in favor of Sportsters and Softails (now 8!). There's plenty of fellows and ladies that'll tell you why. I don't have to...

7:47 - "Top speed on this bike? I have no idea." Hmm, do you routinely do top-speed checks on any other bikes? Why is this an issue with Sportsters? Of course it's not a "100 mph bike." It's naked. Would you want to do 100 mph on a Triumph Bonneville? Obviously not. People often talk about how little power the 883 has. It has "sufficient" power for 99.9% of all riding situations. Is a drag racer? No, obviously not. But my Sportster friends and I compare notes - exactly NONE of us have *had* to use full-throttle in our normal riding. Why not? Because we're not boy-racers. If you drove a Dodge Hellcat, how many times would it be necessary to use all that horsepower? Probably never. I'm 63. I've owned a ton of motorcycles in my life. I'm on my *third* Sportster 883. I love 'em. I think they're great street motorcycles. They're nimble, quick and fun to ride. My current bike (a '96) doesn't leak a drop of oil. If you put my bike side by side with a 2003 (before they changed to the rubber-mounts) you would not be able to tell them apart. Me, I like that kind of continuity of design. I like the fact that there are still parts from a 1957 model that also fit on a 2019 model, or vice-versa. Oh, and mine reliably gets 55-60 mpg. Try that with a 1200. Is it a crime to prefer to drive a Dodge Dart over the Hellcat? Does it make one less of a man? Is our masculinity tied to what we ride or drive? It seems that everyone wants the Sportster to be something else. And they criticize it because it doesn't accelerate like a ZX-14, handle like a CBR-600, have the suspension travel of a ADV or do long distances like an Electra Glide Ultra Classic. But the Sportster doesn't pretend to any of that. It's just a fun, unassuming little streetbike that's cheap to own and easy to work on. And if you get one with some color and chrome (rather than being all-black), I *GUARANTEE* that your bike will be the center of attention if you roll up somewhere with a group of your friends on those swoopy, lookalike sport-bikes.

Bike is over 20 yrs old, motor is bullet proof and as far as power and torque it can absolutely hang with the big boys. Best solid running bike i've ever owned. Only draw back is small frame especially since im 6'1 but also works to my advantage, small frame equals light frame with decent horsepower after a few cheap mods. Very fun bike to ride

It goes as fast as I need it to and I'm sure it'll go as far as I need to go in reasonable comfort when the time comes. If the big boys want to run off and leave me because 75 mph is to slow for them, see ya! I prefer loner rides anyway. (By the way, this is my wife's account. I'm not Debbie! LOL!)

The only negative I can say about a sportster vs a big twin, as someone that bought and resold used bikes is unlike a big twin Sportsters are not really an investment bike that you usually resell for large profits.. used bigtwins you can buy, detail them and resell them for a profit..Sportsters to get that type of profit you need to seriously customize them.. as far as motorcycles go they're great bikes.. they're fun to ride.. if you want to get into bike building and customizing they're great bikes.. those evo engines are great engines...and 1200 cc's is basically the same size as the older bigtwins... 883 isn't really that small.. you can cruise 100mph on a Sportster easy..they corner easy.. nice bikes.. if you have a chance to grab one for cheap buy it..you'll like it... as long as it doesn't have mufflers..

There really arent any complaints i have about it. I can go about 225 miles per tank, 110 comes up pretty quick and highway cruising isnt bad. The sportsters that come with drag bars handle a little like a street bike, you can hit turns/curves pretty quick. I can keep up with my buddys street glide pretty well, jet the carb and put a exhaust on it makes a huge difference. Just opinion.

Especially for shorter riders. A stage one kit makes this a really badass bike. Just be careful of the corners they don't like the carve. Put a fatter tire on the front and they wake up.

Sportsters a great customizable bike and agile and pound for pound a winner in my book, and ive rode many bikes, vrod, 1600, 1800 etc, and i own a 883 with 1200 kit and geared and sprocketed and im happier with it than the previous. No hate here at all.

Some folks want to talk smack about the Sportster, especially the 883. I think that is for three very obvious reasons. 1- The 883 is a 45hp 50ft/lb setup on a 550 lb bike ... that torque comes on very early in the rpm range but the HP occurs in the 883 late in the RPM range, usually well past where most folks normally shift a cruiser, so they miss the power band of that bike... 2- Its a bike most often purchased by women due to its size, weight and cost, therefore its branded a "Woman's Bike", but early on and even today, the Sportster 883 power to weight ratio is about the same as most any stock twin cam 88 sitting in a 900 lb bike, 3- The Sportster EVO 1200 is simply much quicker than most all heavy cruisers historically made by Harley Davidson. People who pay in the +20k range for their heavy cruisers, get defensive when they loose their traffic light drag with a stock XL1200 Evo. Its even worse when the stock 883 is able to stay right with them, especially when it has a much lighter rider on board... ---- The 883 is about 7 sec 0-60 and a 15sec Qtr The 1200 is a 5 sec 0-60 and 13 sec Qtr (the later 48, and Customs are nearly a second faster) The newer 120+ hp Sportsters are even faster... ----- The Vrod is the only stock Harley faster than the 1200 EVO Sportsters (sub 4 sec 0-60 and sub 12 sec Qtr) ----- So the comments about the 883, really don't match the numbers. Its not a crotch rocket by any means, but its really no slower than any historical stock twin cam 88 either._____ and___ if you want your 883 to do more, then simply drop in the HD 1200 kit and convert it to an EVO 1200... Since 883s usually sell for less than the 1200, it could be beneficial to purchase the 883 and use the OEM Harley 1200 kit, clutch, and dealer remap to mod that bike to a XL1200.

People underestimate the sportsters. I come from riding a cbr1000, and it’s a huge difference but I like the way my iron1200 rides, and handle turns… it’s a fun bike to ride without going 100+ mph lol

Sporster is a great learner bike and they can be chopped or bobbed. What makes it a great learner is not the overall weight of the bike but the weight of the front fork and tire. My wife and I started out on vstar 650s, which is a great bike, but my wife didn't like the weight of the front end when low speed turning or balancing at a stop. She immediately upgraded to an 883 super low and she loves it. We're put a stage one kit on it with Vance and Hines short shots and it's loud and quick. I've driven it and it's definitely lighter in the front end than my vstar bobber. My suggestion for any new rider, I'm still new myself, is to take a riding class and get something that you can control. A Roadking or Street Glide is just too much bike to start on. We bought the vstars because they were cheap and light. As your skill level improves you can upgrade to the bike you want. Just remember a dumped Harley is more expensive to repair than a Yamaha or Honda.

I own a 12 year old 1200N with no leaks and starts instantly, but one of the best looking bikes out there is the 883 Iron. I've always owned sportbikes before. The sportsters are simple, reliable and fun to ride. It's like a classic car, except newer. Very American. Not an sjw bike. The other Harleys seem a little too big and bulky and some seem like status symbols, but I could be wrong on that impression.

I started out on a 04 ninja 250. Great little bike but I figured out really fast that the sport bike style just wasn't for me. I ended up trading a softtail chopper to a buddy of mine for his 04 883. (I got the chopper in a trade and it just wasn't for me). The 883 is almost perfect. Eventually I will probably end up getting a softtail or a dyna just for a little more power, but the sportster is almost exactly what I could ride the rest of my life. If it was a 1200 I would honestly have no issues with it, I just want a little more power. That being said, my 883 is not going anywhere anytime soon, as it's just as awesome little around town bike and not too bad for carving some corners or even some longer riding depending on the weather. Although start out on a shadow or a vstar. Way cheaper to fix when you drop it or wreck it XDXD

I have an 883N just like this with stage 1. Took me 5 seconds to figure out how to turn off the hazards. I’ve dropped it 3 times and laid it down twice crushing off two fingers and breaking my ribs the other time. I still picked up 550 lbs as a 155 lb man. It’s been rear ended while parked and has scars and dents... but it is still the best looking bike in the parking lot and I’m the one the girls come to talk to and it’s the one that gathers a crowd. If you can’t even figure out the hazards, your opinion means nothing to me buddy.

883 and 1200 sportsters (especially 1995-200x) make some if the best to eat bikes out there for a pretty cheap price. I've owned everything from 500cc to 1600cc, and I'll tell you that mid-sized bikes are done of the best all-around bikes out there. I loved my 1600, but Jesus Christ urban riding was a pain.

I've had big and small Harleys and the Sportster is the most reliable Harley made? Not good for highway?...I toured over 20 stares on an 883. You just have to set it up right. I used a Mustang wide touring seat, a used pair of Roadking shocks, taller handlebars, detachable windshield, forward controls, and a detachable windshield. I even pulled a small trailer behind it on one of my 1,600 mile runs. I've got pics to prove it. People will talk trash on your bike NO MATTER WHAT IT IS. I'd feel like less of a man listening to them than riding a Sportster.

Actually, when you're drag racing some dude on his BMW or whatever, with your built 1250 sportster that's putting down over 100hp, then yes, you can "accidentally" do a hundred quite easily. Lol But I know what he's saying, he's referring to if you're riding a "Busa or something, that's so quiet and smooth and powerful, that you hit a hundred without even realizing it.

That's actually an 883 iron I think. And the Sportster is a great bike. Not a beginner bike like alot of people think. Maybe beginner because of price but handling wise a new rider will never be confident on them. They are high centered and rough. But they run forever and are super cool. U can mod them in anyway u want. It's a great iconic bike. The problem is they are air cooled. But the motor is almost bulletproof. Love the sporty. Will always have mine
