When I first heard about Redcaps I immediately made a homebrew race to play as one and just used the gnome race as a base and swapped out the descriptions and names keeping all the stats.

I'd like to this the quality of the blood as well as how it's obtained should effect it's potency. collecting blood from a slain creature in say a vial will be able to sustain the red cap but won't do much more unless its a rather large creature, meanwhile a Red Cap hitting a giant's artery with their scythe and getting completely drenched in crimson? ''Why do I hear boss music?'' Could add more quirks to a redcap's personality, like an intense hatred of stirges, vampires and any other blood sucking creatures as they are unwanted competition.

Redcaps are a staple of my gaming group's adventures. In fact, I hold the group's record for fastest PC death thanks to these filthy dunters. Ten minutes into a new campaign my level 1 fighter kicked open the door of an abandoned shop and three redcaps perforated him with massive crossbow bolts, two of which were critical hits. Their hats were thoroughly soaked that day.

I could see him being rather corrupe, as all he need is someone to kill, so maybe criminals gang pay in bodys for when their members gets capture. He would also be an sctives for harder prisons sentences for middel crimes and sponser the law inforcemene. And if times gets hard he can alwais buy a slave, fight in the arena or going to the street and be the police, jugde ande executioner

What about redcap variant. You mentioned madcaps, what about revenant redcaps, or illithid redcaps, redcaps In places like the shadowfel, nagitive plane, ethereal or astral plane. Humanoids have been using banishment and plane shift long enough that you could find them there...right?
