Why You Should Play Skies of Arcadia Legends

I expected to have a good time with this game, but even with those expectations I think the game exceeded them. Truly a fantastic experience, and one that is worthy of far better treatment than it has had over the 18 years by SEGA.

I finally watched this video and wish I had watched it a long time ago. It provided the answer to something that had been driving me nuts for a long time: I never played Skies of Arcadia, but I was absolutely SURE I had seen the three protagonists of the game somewhere before and I could just never figure out where. Thanks for providing me with the answer: in my playthrough of Valkyria Chronicles, Vyse was the character who landed the kill shot in the final boss fight against Maximillian in the game. Vyse and Aika were two of the best characters in that game and I used them on every mission. I also never put it together that Fina was the medic in the game until watching this video. Thank you so much for being the only Skies of Arcadia review to that these characters also appear in one of my all-time favorite SRPGs; Valyria Chronicles.

I must've beaten this game about 50 times when I was 12 and 13. I'm 24 now and just remembered how much I adored it from beginning to end, and now I want to get a copy since my old one was stolen, but ~$300? Damn, guess I gotta save lol. Really good review by the way, I loved seeing some of the locations that feel like a fever dream to me show up in your video! I'm dying to play this again. My favourite point in the whole game is when you get your own Pirate Island and get to add all of the cool decorations and buildings to it.

The Pirate Island base was a really fun time and fit the game really well. Not sure if another game could pull it off as well and that’s why they should bring this one back

I remember getting this for my Dreamcast back in the day and loving it. Then years later getting it on the Cube and beating it again. A little after that, I read that the other "twin", "must play" Sega Rpg was Panzer Dragoon Saga. So I got a Sega Saturn and that game for $190.00 15 or so years ago. Yes I'm nuts, but I'll say if anyone has a chance to play either game, do yourself a favor and do so.

This is my favorite JRPG of all time. I was hooked on the Eternal Arcadia demo on the Official Dreamcast Magazine and bought the Dreamcast version the day it came out. Then, years later, I saw Legends at Gamestop for $12 so I bought it too. Coincidentally, it led me to my favorite JRPG series as well when I saw this weird looking "Trails in the Sky" game on Steam and decided to buy it because there were airships in the screenshots. I might have to dig out the old GameCube. It's been way too long since I played this.

Heard about this game from a top 50 Gamecube games list, figured I'd give it a try. Since I'm in the latter group with the "where-with-all" to get it, heh. Great video! Great video! I've had my copy for Dreamcast since I bought it at gamestop almost 22 years ago 😅 one of my absolute favorite games I was so used to Square's Ps1 stuff that Skies completely blew my mind with how pretty a game it was back in 2000, I've not played Legends, it's been a long time since I've played it so maybe I'll give it a go 😁

I played through this game 3 times back when i had a Dreamcast. I never played Legends though. I have always hoped it would come out on a modern console. Switch would be perfect.

This game was one of very very few I saw all the way to the end. Yes I did own this game. A friend narrowed it around 10 years ago and I miss it. It was such a fun game. Good story. Fun combat. Great visuals for the time.

I'm playing it for the first time on my gamecube. I just beat gregorio. About 25 hours in. I love this game. It holds up very well for a game out of 2000. We need more sky pirate games.

Just did a 100% run recently for the first time, still a great time. Grinding those 2500 enemies for the 3 secrets was a pain though lol.

The one thing I do have to disagree with you on is the use of Crew Members in Ship Battles. I can't tell you just how many times how much I used certain members to boost my Spirit or to protect my ship! Not to mention the efficiency certain crew members bring for things you can't control in battle like how much damage your canons can do. Also I can't tell you how many time's Aika's Delta Shield has also saved my butt! But yeah I have the original DC game. My brother got the DC to try out Shemue (sp?) and got a few other games and this was one of them. He eventually gave the DC to me along with the games. This game and Grandia 2 are still two of my fav video games of all time. While I would give Grandia 2 the edge when it comes to chars and story (and to some extent gameplay, love the cancelation ability), I would give this the edge in exploration and setting.

Oh I'm sure the crew member powers can be helpful, I just didn't use them, but I will never claim my gameplay strategies are optimal or even effective. Delta Shield was a very useful ability to have

Nice video Fun fact but Fina is actually pronounced as Faina (ファイナ) I guess at this point it is too late to try to convince English-speaking fans of SoA to use that pronunciation since everyone got used to calling her Fina

Yeah it's definitely too late on that, but it would have been an uphill climb anyways since those of us who know anyone named Gina would immediately transfer that pronunciation over for Fina.

I don't know if it should be considered it a compliment or not, but this is the sole review I've seen that made me genuinely consider emulating this, purely for two reasons: 1-Seems to be the only review that is actually sincere. 2-The only one I've seen that points out the SP regenerates. Being led to think otherwise is one of the biggest reasons I had little interest in this game previously. Didn't think the combat would be fun.

Had it on dreamcast a long time ago, i played the gamecube version but tbh i prefer the dreacast because the game has cool music and tha gamecube version ruins it, lately wanted to play it again and got these moded DC vesion callet uncut undub, where they put the Japanese vioces and restore some censured content, playin it in redream emulato on my phone

The random encounters on the world map kills exploration for me every time i try to play this game. I wanna explore this cool, unique world so much, but this is a real kill-joy! Too bad. I find this incredibly annoying!

About half way through game when you can fly above or below the clouds, your encounter rate goes to almost zero.
