glad you found a way to get free mangos while you grow up your trees
@Green.Country.Agroforestry5 жыл бұрын
this reminds me .. ive gotta top my pear trees this year. The fruit is more firm than mangos, but when they drop out of the tops at the peak of ripeness, quite a few can go splat. The mess has to be cleaned up, and can get painful once the bees and wasps start burrowing in to harvest all of that sweet juice.

David you should find out what happened to the owner. Maybe you could pick up the land cheap or even work out a deal and fix the orchard. That looks like a great opportunity. 😃👍😃👍
@baddriversofcolga5 жыл бұрын
My guess is David wouldn't want to deal with the amount of work it's going to need. Plus, he needs to put some focus on his own land. But I hear ya.

Isn't there an official register for landowners where you could ask who the current owner is? Maybe you can rent/buy it for cheap and make it into a productive orchard again? I would buy mangos from you!

I have 4 year old mango plant which is 6 feet tall without branch. How can I prune it now. I was not aware of pruning. Will it harm if I cut it in mid.

Would it be wrong to just take over the orchard and prune the trees while the owner is away?

Probably not. He's been gone for years.

Who would leave an established orchard? It blows my mind how there is so such much potential in that part of the world and it’s wasted.

Not sure where you are these days, but we often forget the overall ecology associated with some types of fruit trees. All the conversation is about human convenience and consumption. Have you ever given much thought to the importance of things like Mango trees to the animal kingdom? I'm letting my own fruit trees grow a little taller that I prefer just so the birds & squirrels can have a share without killing my crop. I also eat the squirrels and deer, which taste much better when properly fed.
@davidthegood5 жыл бұрын
Considering mango isn't at all native, I am sure it's just a bonus for the animals. With my limited land, I'm not going to let them get huge. I do believe in leaving lots of wild area if you have the space, though. It's good to keep the habitat.

Mango trees get junormouse !!! Growing up down in Miami, Fl. as kids we would climb all over them, they were huge. We never ate the fruit (well rarely) but we had a lot of fun having fruit fights. Nothing says love like wopping someone in the side of the face with a nice juicy rotting mango !!! However it was game over when someone got wopped with a hard green one. It was kinda sad, there were all those beautiful trees just dripping with fruit and most of it went uneaten. What were we thinking ?!?!? Too many wops with green fruit ? That and we were allergic to the sap and of course everybody broke out in rashes after the mango wars, you would heal up and it was back to the trenches, woo hoo !!!
