While reading is great, it’s only one part of the equation. Reading is the consumption while writing is the production. This isn’t to say that you have to strive to be a novelist, but if you exercise writing your thoughts about what you read, it builds understanding and helps you to develop key ideas. Writing and reading go hand in hand. When done in concert, you maximize the benefits from both. If I read something that strikes me, but never write the thoughts down, then it is lost, never to be articulated.

I'd use it on specialty books only- that's how I got my educations. MB brain is not fit to meet our changing needs and lifestyles. Skills can be learned only when all body gets involved. Also, spoken communications now are mostly deceiving. I know it is very disappointing, but it is more important what kind of life , style and speed you live with. Good luck to y'll.

Looking back during my childhood, I disliked reading very much, but now I wish I read more back then because it’s not as bad as I thought it was. The power of reading a story and putting your imagination to use by visualizing it or learning something new about someone or something, through a book, fascinates me. Reading isn’t as bad as you may think, once you read for 5-10 minutes, you might eventually or even want to continue to keep reading. Give it a try!

What can I say, reading is quite “magical” to me. I read for entertainment (yep, purely for fun) when I was little and never expected any effect on me, yet at this age of my life I do give credit to the past reading experience my inclination to think, to write, to reflect, and to be optimistic. Recently, I have experienced some issues with money, self-improvement, and office socialization. When I got fed up and pick up a random book for a quick “escape,” for some reason, there’s always something in the book I picked that day that would speak to the circumstances I was bothered by: it could be a Confucius quote on point, it could be a fictional story where the heroine has similar struggles, etc. I found myself question: huh? Do books have their own mind and know exactly what I need?! Lol! Yeah, when in doubt, go read a book 😉

There's a guy by the name of Stephen Krashen who talks about learning foreign languages through reading. I read short stories and novels in Spanish. I learned more Spanish through reading than trying to pick it up through hearing native Speakers speak and asking questions. If you want to learn a foreign language, reading is like putting a jetpack on your language learning. If you incorporate that with listening to native speakers, you can learn a lot in a matter of months. I truly think you could reach near native level within 5-10 years depending on if you need to learn a new script.

Reading was a big help battling my depression. There were times I wasn't able to get out of my bed and thought about commiting suicide in an endless cycle. My brain just never stopped thinking about it and it was truly exhausting. Then I began to pick up books and when I read it was the only time my brain shut up thinking about suicide and how worthless I feel. The different perspetives of characters also animated me to see my own problems, thoughts and life from a different point of view and so reading books finally kickstarted small impulses of changing my way of thinking, getting help, leaving my bed and so. Now, after many years of therapy and conquering my depression I'm still reading a lot. Disappearing into the world of books is my safe space and I'm highly grateful for it.

Reading improves imagination/visualization, in movies director does the visualization and you just see the output without having to put your brain. As said at last part of video, reading maybe the way to be part of billionaire club. It is as important to read the correct book instead of something, if you want to improve.

This video seems to argue why reading is useful as apposed to why reading books is useful. I find that whenever people say reading it's too focused on books specifically despite there being many other forms of literature aside from books. My parents keep imploring I read books, and they say I spend too much time on my laptop despite the fact that I still read paragraphs worth of writing from websites, articles, other pieces that draw my attention, and even reviewing my own pieces of writing. I find reading to not introduce as much vocabulary as people may think. I read several book series growing up, and what I got from them was not a broad vocabulary. Reading will allow you to understand new words, and help you to understand unknown words in the future, but being able to recall them at the drop of a hat requires you to practice using them. This is why I find writing to be a much better substitute to reading to widen your vocabulary since it causes you to use new words as apposed to just reading them.

Also, really good books can encapsulate a subject with much more thought, love and effective design embedded in it than some quicker product devised by a KZbinr in a few hours. Books more often have layers of meaning that inspire a wider array of thoughts. A podcast can get several messages out very quickly, and you get a sense of the personality of the people. But if that podcast were an edited and designed narrative, it would actually save you time, and provide greater value, as there would be no pointless misunderstandings between the speakers, and the author would raise and answer the interesting questions that come up, which in podcasts are often touched on briefly, or trail off and disappear in order to move on or be consumed by an ad. Rather than focusing on particular identities and characters, books highlight the idea of the Author of that microcosmic world in the story.

I think people don't like to read because it requires the mind to play an active role in imagining and processing what is being read. In visual media, nearly all of that is already done for you and requires no effort. Reading is anything but a passive activity.

when reading you control the narrative more than watching a movie. it tends to be more creative but it's mentally demanding. in video games you control the narrative even more. but the narrative is always an aggressive one, so it's a more limited part of mental experience than what reading can bring.

As a reader and a writter, its kinda funny to see young people not reading because they associate the stress of being forced into the read as a child, to the action of read. The other thing complicated in this matter, at least in spain, finding the book you like, it's really difficult, books often are written with the same style, the same way to put stories. Maybe this can change with the hability to publish books, by oneself. With autopublication.

I like reading, but there are characteristics about the print that I need I'm order to comfortably be able to do it. The font needs to be clear. What is clear to me may not be clear to others. The space between lines matters. How long a line is across the page matters. There are other things as well. If the printing is not right, my eyes are strained to where I almost just can not see the words. I wonder how many of the January 6th rioters at the Capital were book readers.

Saying that you dont have time to read is just a cheap escape. You have 16h a day to get something started. You work about 8h a day. So what do you do with the rest of the time?

Good video. By the way tho I'm not Muslim but one interesting and maybe somehow motivatinal thing about Quran is that "the first word that was revealed to Muhammad was; اقرأ Which means ; Read. In Christianity also, in the very beginning of the bible it talks about a word. Also related to reading.

Recently, whenever I sit down to watch TV with my husband I always find it boring and quickly get uninterested in shows and movies. The only time I really watch TV now is when I spend time with my husband. Otherwise I much prefer to watch interesting YT videos and read a good book

Great video. I like to read audio books I find it to be easier for me to absorb and get thru. I don’t listen and do something else, I literally sit there and really take in the audiobook. Are audiobooks better or worst than actually reading a book?

I could finish a 300-400 pages of books for a day or two, on average I consume 5 to 7 books a months, I'm seeing there are improvements on my memory and the ability to recall things but by having a lot of information sometimes makes me lonely because a lot of people didn't take me seriously, also reading can become another way to procrastinate so be careful

Is this a plug for Ben Carson’s book? He doesn’t seem like the brightest crayon in the box. And reading puts me to sleep almost instantly. I think I’m moving more towards the audible stuff
